Stove016
Antique Stove Tile - Rare Color This is a large stove tile in a very unusual mint green color. I've never seen this color before! Measures 3 1/2" in diameter, relief is medium to low. This is a portrait of a woman, facing left. Unmarked. Small glaze nips under the hole, on the left edge, and to a couple higher areas - the stuff under her eye is gone (it was dirt!). There is a chip out of the back, which does not affect the tile face. Center bolt hole was used to attach this to a parlor stove - circa 1880.

T1067
Antique Tile Plaque with Putti and Fire This outstanding antique ceramic tile plaque is oval in shape - which is unusual. The scene shows three cherubs near a small bonfire - you can see the smoke curling up from the fire. In the background to the right is a tree, and behind them is what looks like draped curtains. The majolica glaze is a blue green and heavily pooled at the top - some crazing can be seen in this heavily pooled area when the tile is tipped to show the shine. The figures are molded in very nice relief. This measures 7 3/4" in width and 6 3/4" from top to bottom. There are two factory holes in the back at the top, used for hanging. There is some wear to the glaze on the back, and only the absolute most minor of wear to two highpoints on the front side. Generally in extremely nice condition. Unmarked, probably English, definitely circa 1880. (#T-1067)

1045
Rare Pink Antique Tile of a Young Girl Pink is one of the rarest glaze colors found on antique tiles - and this particular color is lovely. The tile, done in intaglio technique, depicts a young girl with a blanket. There's a small "c" copyright symbol in the lower right corner. The self framing edge is raised in bullnose type relief. The maker of this wonderful tile is Hemixem, in Belgium, circa 1900. Minor wear to the top of the bullnose edge, and higher points on the tile face - small chip to bottom edge, and two really tiny chips on the right edge. Generally - this is in very nice condition. Rare Zanesville Majolica Stove Tile This fabulous round stove tile measures 4" in diameter. The design is molded in very high relief, and shows a portrait of a heavily bearded man. He is wearing a feathered hat and the ruffles on his collar are showing. I believe this was probably made by the Zanesville Majolica Company, of Zanesville, Ohio, 1882 - 1884. See bottom right photo in "American Art Tile" by Norman Karlson for the same interior design. Done in rich brown majolica glazes, with mottled edges, this is in outstanding condition.

145772
Antique Portrait Tiles by AET There is a wonderful chocolate brown glaze on this matched pair of portrait tiles made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company (Zanesville, OH), circa 1890. The relief is extremely high. Each tile is 8" square, and has the early AET mark on the back. The condition is very good. There are no problems on any of the high relief areas of the portraits - which is unusual. There are 2 small areas of professional restoration on the female - on the upper edge of the circle over her head, and in the bottom left corner. The male tile has one small area of restoration on the circle edge over his head. Marvelous portrait tile pair - would look exceptional framed! (#T-1054)

T1125
Providential Stove tiles - set of 4 A super set of 4 stove tiles, made by the Providential Tile Works, of Trenton, New Jersey. These date around 1880 - 1890 and all 4 are the same design - 5 open flowers - probably sunflowers. Done in a greenish gold majolica glaze (very typical of the period), each tile measures 2 5/8" in diameter (across the back). Two tiles have had hangers fashioned for the back, two do not. The mark on these is unusual - T.P.T.W. - which stands for "The Providential Tile Works" - usually displayed as PTW. All four tiles are in excellent condition. Great for antique parlor stove restoration, or to add to your collection! (#T-1125)
