Wheatley Tile ~ Floral ~ Circa 1915 A super nice 4 inch Wheatley tile of Cincinnati, Ohio circa 1915.

The pastel colors on the stylized floral design are beautiful together. The mottled glazes are stunning and do not over-power the piece. The tile is in very good condition minus some very small and minor edge chips.

The pressed Wheatley mark is clear, other numbers on the back are 113.

Measures 4 inches square x 3/4of an inch in thickness.

gap0057

Franklin ~ Nursery Rhyme Tile ~ Tom Tom the Pipers Son Tom Tom the Pipers Son.

Tile measures 6 inches square and was manufactured by Franklin Tile in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, I would place the age of this piece at about 1930-1935. The frame measures 12.75 inches square x 1 inch thick and is made of Oak. The piece does have a crack in the lower right ( pictured ), but still displays very nicely, frame is included with the purchase and makes the tile ready to hang and display.

Tom Tom the pipers son
Stole a pig and away he ran,
The pig was eat and Tom was beat
And Tom went roaring down the street.

T2042

Los Angeles Pressed Brick Figural Tile Panel ~ Rare This gorgeous tile panel depicts putti (aka cherubs) playing musical instruments and dancing.
Done in a reddish brown glaze, they called this a vellum glaze. The cherubs are in low relief. The panel measures 9 3/4" x 5". The tile panel is set into an older solid wood frame that measures 12 3/4" x 8 1/2".

LA Pressed Brick tiles are rare and hard to come by. The company was in business from 1887 – 1926. The decorative tile production began in 1907. Fred H. Roberston was one of the main designers of their decorative tile. The tile has had a professional and invisible restoration. The tile is clearly marked on the back with not only the LAPB mark, but also with an impressed F.H.R. - for Fred H. Roberston. A great piece to add to your Arts & Crafts Movement tile or pottery collection. (#T-2042)

Click for more detail...

2051

Claycraft Tiles Set of 8 Vintage Calif A & C This is a neat set of tiles made by Claycraft Potteries. They were a California Arts & Crafts Movement company, that primarily made tiles, and were in business in Los Angeles from 1921 – 1939.
Each tile measures roghly 5 3/4" square and is 3/4" thick. These were originally designed to be used in fireplaces, but could certainly be adapted for other projects. The design is a repeating 4 flower, vine and leaves. Some of the tiles are marked, and others are not. All are definitely Claycraft. These tiles all have some flaws, some minor and some a little more. A few have corner chips, most have some wear to high areas, two have large areas of chipping on the outside vertical areas. These are great if you want to do a restoration project, and outdoor area, a smaller table top. Some are in very decent condition – please do look through the photos. (#2051)

1972

Arts & Crafts Tile Woman Washing Clothes This is a very well made and executed tile. The design shows a woman bending over a washing tub, doing laundry. You can see the clothes hanging on the line behind her. Hand made - this measures 6" square and is 1/2" thick. Done in a blue green majolica glaze with lovely molded details. This is hand incised with an "H" on the back. Although definite age and maker are unknown, this could certainly be the work of Pewabic Pottery or one of the other major Arts & Crafts Movement pottery/tile companies. It is that well done. In excellent condition. (Inv.#1972)

T1877

American Encaustic Tiling Company Inkwell Nice pottery inkwell made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, of Zanesville, Ohio, as an advertising piece, for their company. The inkwell has an area for two pens to rest (near the front), and two wells for ink - the lids are missing. The AETCO logo, within a circle, sits between the two wells. Super light blue high glaze. This measures just shy of 6" across, 5" from back to front, and sits about 1 1/2" high. My best guess is that this was made around 1930 - 1940. In excellent condition. This would be great for pens and paper clips on a desk. (#T-1877)
