2051

Claycraft Tiles Set of 8 Vintage Calif A & C This is a neat set of tiles made by Claycraft Potteries. They were a California Arts & Crafts Movement company, that primarily made tiles, and were in business in Los Angeles from 1921 – 1939.
Each tile measures roghly 5 3/4" square and is 3/4" thick. These were originally designed to be used in fireplaces, but could certainly be adapted for other projects. The design is a repeating 4 flower, vine and leaves. Some of the tiles are marked, and others are not. All are definitely Claycraft. These tiles all have some flaws, some minor and some a little more. A few have corner chips, most have some wear to high areas, two have large areas of chipping on the outside vertical areas. These are great if you want to do a restoration project, and outdoor area, a smaller table top. Some are in very decent condition – please do look through the photos. (#2051)

T2104

Pegasus Tile by Moravian Pottery and Tile Works This Pegasus tile is from the Constellation series of tiles made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works in Doylestown, PA. It dates around 1920, and the larger tiles in this series are very hard to find. This measures 6 5/8" in diameter and is just over 1/2" thick. The tile design is pierced. The glaze is a speckled / mottled blue, with the buff color clay coming though to enhance it. There is a firing crack through the left leg of the winged horse – as is common with many of the older and larger Mercer tiles. Generally this is in very nice condition. This would be an amazing gift for that astronomer in your life! (#T-2104)

Done in red clay (not glazed) with a majolica blue glaze in the recesses and on the sides. The tile is handmade and measures about 3 1/2" square. In overall nice condition. T1877

American Encaustic Tiling Company Inkwell Nice pottery inkwell made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, of Zanesville, Ohio, as an advertising piece, for their company. The inkwell has an area for two pens to rest (near the front), and two wells for ink - the lids are missing. The AETCO logo, within a circle, sits between the two wells. Super light blue high glaze. This measures just shy of 6" across, 5" from back to front, and sits about 1 1/2" high. My best guess is that this was made around 1930 - 1940. In excellent condition. This would be great for pens and paper clips on a desk. (#T-1877)
