Richard E. Bishop Signed Duck Tile Fabulous tile made by Richard E. Bishop, depicting a multi-colored duck in flight, on a mottled and curdled light green background. Raised line technique, combination of matte and semi matte glazes. This has rounded corners. Measures 6" across by 1/2" thick. Signed Richard E. Bishop on back, with a copyright symbol. The corners were cut prior to glazing. Edge chipping – see photos – would look great framed. (#1227)

Richard E. Bishop (1887-1975) – has a varied and well recognized career in art and his pieces, particularly bird subjects, are very desirable. Google his name for a full bio.

Terra Cotta Fish Tile This unique tile has nice high relief on the designs, about 3/8". Depicts a goldfish, or a carp, with whimsical water lines. Measures 7 ½" square – total depth is ¾". Unmarked – age and maker unknown. Minor nicks on the high relief, chip on upper right corner. Great for an outdoor garden or water feature. (#NC012)

Moravian Dog of Nuremberg Tile This vintage tile was made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works of Doylestown, PA, circa 1920. Titled "Dog of Nuremberg" – the dog is deeply incised, and there’s a dark green glaze in the recesses. Measures 4 1/8" square, by 5/8" thick – nice early piece. Two normal kiln pulls on the bottom edge. (#1715)

Taurus Tile by Schreckengost / Summitville Made while at Summitville Tile, this was designed by Don Schreckengost. One of his famous "sculptured Zodiac" lines of tiles - this is Taurus - the bull. Done in a gold over black glaze. Measures just over 6" square. Extreme relief - over 2" - probably the highest relief I've seen on a tile. Heavy - red clay body, inscribed Summitville on the back. Excellent condition. I have 3 other tiles in this series. See Lois Lehner's book "US Marks on Pottery Porcelain and Clay" for a complete history of Don Schreckengost and Summitville. (#T-1240)

Danish Modern Cat Tile This terrific cat tile plaque was made by Soholm, in Denmark, circa 1960's. Measuring 7 3/8" x 6 5/8" by 1" thick. Created with glazes that look like crackle glass, this was made using the cuenca (raised line) technique. Signed by the designer, Simou,, to the left of the upper part of the tail. American Encaustic Unusual Gun Metal Black Deer Tile This American Encaustic Tiling Company tile, of Zanesville, Ohio has an Art Deco feel, especially with the gun metal black and shiny silver glazes. The deer is molded in very nice relief. Measuring just about 6" square and 5/8" thick and dating from the mid 1920s. Theres one tiny top edge nip and one tiny bottom left side nip on this tile in generally excellent condition. (#T-1156)

Transfer decorated with a swimming swan, there is one in blue, one in black and one in red. These can be used as coasters, paperweights, or just decorative tile accessories. Probably circa 1950-60. All are in nice condition.

American Encaustic Art Deco Man on Horse Tile A great tile depicting a colorful man riding a great horse! Made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, of Zanesville, OH, ca 1920. Press molded design with a metallic silver glaze outlining the man, the horse, and the edge designs. Measuring 4 ¼" x ½" thick, this is in excellent condition. The back is very cool - as it has not only the company logo, the pattern number, the design number, a date (?), and a list of the glazes used on the tile - very unusual. I also have three other tiles in this series for sale. (#T-1173)
