Three Moravian Pottery Zodiac Brocade Tiles Nice set of three tiles, made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Each measures approx. 2 1/2", both ways. The blue fish, representing Pisces (I think) is a high glaze blue and is dated 1989. The other fish is a semi-matte gold glaze and is dated 1990. The crab tile - representing Cancer, is a matte green and is dated 1990. All three are in excellent condition. (#T-2074)

Chinese Dragon Tile in Silk Presentation Box This is an unusual ceramic tile paperweight in a silk box. The round tile is a heavy pottery - intricate molded design of a Chinese dragon - nice large self framing edge - goldish brown majolica glaze. This came in a silk covered box with an ivory (or ivory type) clasp. Lined in a shiny red material - the red silk sidestrap needs to be re-attached at the bottom. The tile measures 5 3/4" in diameter and almost 3/4" thick. The box 6 1/4" square by 1 1/2" thick. I believe these to be Chinese and probably from the 1940's or 1950's. Both the box and the tile are in very nice condition. (#T-1393)

Antique Hand Painted Tile Bluebirds This is a well executed painting of three bluebirds sitting on pine tree branches. Signed in the lower right corner - E. Thorne. Painted on a National Tile Company tile, - with a patent date of December 3, 1907. The National Tile Company was in business, in Anderson, Indiana, from 1903 -1966 - so this was done in the earlier years of the company. There are some small impurities on the tile surface (near the center) - difficult to see unless the tile is tilted at an angle. The tile measures 6" square - the framed dimensions are 7 1/2" square. Stylized Bird of Prey / Falcon Tile Very neat looking bird of prey, maybe a falcon, on this nicely glazed large tile. Measures 7 5/8" square by 1/2" thick - hand made and molded in relief. Pleasing brown high glazes. Crazing line on left self framing edge, and a glazed over firing line on the left side. Two really tiny glaze nicks on the outside edges. Generally in very nice condition. Age is unknown, although I believe this to be fairly new. (#T-1101)

Giraffe & Squirrel Whimsical Tile Great retro / vintage tile with a giraffe, a squirrel and another cute animal. Hand made - measures 3 3/4" square - the animal outlines are raised. The glaze is a fun mustard color (a lot like a bright Dijon!). Incised by the artist - D. Williamson and dated 1944. In excellent condition. Wonderful for a child's room or your fun and funky house! Pelican Feeding Her Young Tile The legend about the pelican mother piercing her breast to feed her young her blood - so they would not starve - preceeded Christianity. The Christians adopted this symbol to represent Jesus Christ. Made by The Mosaic Tile Company of Zanesville, Ohio, ca 1950's. Vintage Tonala Mexican Tile - Bird Wonderful vintage Tonala tile made in the Jalisco area of Mexico. Depicts a bird with its beak raised in the air - touching a large open flower. This measures about 4 1/2" square by 1/2" thick. This de-installed tile has minor amounts of mortar/grout on the back and sides. Minor edge roughness. From the 1920's - the soft earth tones and burnished feel make this tile very appealing. This is one of 4 Tonala tiles we currently have in stock. Possibly made by the Solis workshops. Moravian Pottery Aries Zodiac Tile circa 1920 True vintage tile made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, circa 1920. From a series of Zodiac tiles, this is Aries, the ram. Measures 4" by 2 3/4" - this is done with a blue background in the recesses, and the ram is unglazed red clay. Excellent condition. (#1032)

Batchelder Tile - Dog and Tree Batchelder tile depicting a dog with a tree in the background. Done in classic matte finish with brown and blue (in the recesses), this tile was made by Batchelder, in Los Angeles, California, circa 1920. Measuring 5 3/4" square by 3/4" thick. The tile has obviously been de-installed and has minor remains of mortar on the back. Very minor discoloration on the self framing bottom edge - generally in very nice condition. A nice example of California pottery and is design #25 in the Batchelder tiles catalog. (#1675)

Vintage Hand Painted Great Dane Tile Fabulous portrait of a Great Dane dog on this 6" square tile. Done on an English Thynne tile blank, this was hand painted and signed F. Vosmansky. Probably circa 1950 - perhaps a tad earlier, this is in outstanding condition. Set into a metal trivet, but easily removed from that if you prefer. (#T-1145)

Batchelder Tile with Mythical Bird This Batchelder tile depicts a weird but interesting bird! Done in a matte gray to biege finish, with a blue engobe in the recesses, this measures 5 7/8" square by 5/8" thick. It is design #29 in the Batchelder Tile catalog. This de-installed tile has a good front tile surface, very minor chips to the back/side edges and some slight mortar/grout in a couple of the recesses. The back clearly shows the de-installation and some remaining mortar. Circa 1920's. This is mounted in a new wood frame - total size is 8 1/2" square - ready to go on your wall. (#4533-T-1200)
