Terra Cotta Fish Tile
This unique tile has nice high relief on the designs, about 3/8". Depicts a goldfish, or a carp, with whimsical water lines. Measures 7 ½" square – total depth is ¾". Unmarked – age and maker unknown. Minor nicks on the high relief, chip on upper right corner. Great for an outdoor garden or water feature. (#NC012)

Antique Tile of a Ram by Wedgwood
This light blue transfer printed tile is from a series titled Fresco Heads made by Wedgwood in England, circa 1880. Measures 6" square and depicts a horned ram. One of the nice colors in this series and a hard to find tile. Tight hairline in the middle of the right side. - and minor edge wear. (#1711)

Taurus Tile by Schreckengost / Summitville
Made while at Summitville Tile, this was designed by Don Schreckengost. One of his famous "sculptured Zodiac" lines of tiles - this is Taurus - the bull. Done in a gold over black glaze. Measures just over 6" square. Extreme relief - over 2" - probably the highest relief I've seen on a tile. Heavy - red clay body, inscribed Summitville on the back. Excellent condition. Moravian Pottery Aries Zodiac Tile circa 1920
True vintage tile made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, circa 1920. From a series of Zodiac tiles, this is Aries, the ram. Measures 4" by 2 3/4" - this is done with a blue background in the recesses, and the ram is unglazed red clay. Excellent condition. (#1032)

Set of 5 Blue White Antique Tiles with Hunting Animals
Hunting was a desirable motif on tiles of the Victorian era, and these are great examples. Two different scenes - one design is of dogs chasing a rabbit, and the other of dogs chasing a wild boar. All are in an unusual light blue color, on a white background. Each measures 8 ¼" x 4 1/8", and were made in Germany, ca 1880. There are 2 tiles with the wild boars, and 3 tiles with the rabbit. One boar tile has a left edge chip, and one rabbit tile has a tiny flake on the left and bottom edge. Others are in excellent condition. (#T-1204)

Moravian Dog of Nuremberg Tile
This vintage tile was made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works of Doylestown, PA, circa 1920. Titled "Dog of Nuremberg" – the dog is deeply incised, and there’s a dark green glaze in the recesses. Measures 4 1/8" square, by 5/8" thick – nice early piece. Two normal kiln pulls on the bottom edge. (#1715)

Moravian Centaur of Nuremberg Tile
This vintage tile as made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works of Doylestown, PA, circa 1920. Titled "Centaur of Nuremberg" – the centaur is deeply incised, and there’s a dark green glaze in the recesses. Measures 4 1/8" wide x 4" high, by 5/8" thick – nice early piece. Chips on upper right corner and lower right corner. One of the harder to find of Mercer’s tiles. (#1716)

American Encaustic Art Deco Tile with Horse
A great tile depicting a stylized horse. Made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, of Zanesville, OH, ca 1920. Press molded design with a metallic silver glaze outlining the horse and the edge designs. Animal in cranberry red - edge in green. Measuring 4 ¼" square, this is in excellent condition. (#1706)

Greek Goat Studio Art Tile
Very nicely executed art tile of a horned "Greek goat". This round tile has a diameter of 6" and is mounted in a new wood frame, with a total measurement of 10" square. Carved in relief, the goat and border are done in a high glaze gold yellow, and the recesses are in a light turquoise. Signed and dated on the back - incised marks of " Betty Kline T-Th 1-2 Mar. 12, 1935. Greek Goat ". In excellent condition. (#T-1230)

Horse and Rider Antique Tile by Minton Hollins
Bright blue majolica glaze on the intricately molded antique tile by Minton Hollins & Company, circa 1880, England. Measures just under 8" square. Shows a scene of a rider falling off a horse that has just crashed through a fence. The left edge (not the top though) has some old chipping along it - the glaze surface is outstanding. (#T-1073)

Richard E. Bishop Signed Pheasant Tile
Fabulous tile made by Richard E. Bishop, depicting a multi-colored pheasant in flight, on a light turquoise background. Raised line technique, combination of matte and semi matte glazes. Measures 6" square by 5/8" thick. Signed Richard E. Bishop on back, with a copyright symbol. In excellent condition – two factory glaze misses on front. (#1131)
Richard E. Bishop (1887-1975) – has a varied and well recognized career in art and his pieces, particularly bird subjects, are very desirable. Google his name for a full bio.

Danish Modern Cat Tile
This terrific cat tile plaque was made by Soholm, in Denmark, circa 1960's. Measuring 7 3/8" x 6 5/8" by 1" thick. Created with glazes that look like crackle glass, this was made using the cuenca (raised line) technique. Signed by the designer, Simou,, to the left of the upper part of the tail. Round Baltimore Oriole Tile by Wheeling
Done with a raised line technique, this is a really attractive tile made by the Wheeling Tile Company, of Wheeling, West Virginia, probably around the 1930's. This measures 6" in diameter and 3/8" thick. Cork applied to the back - but no mark visible. Nice matte glazes - minor wear to the raised lines and a slight wearing to the tile's edge. (#1710)

Antique Tile with Pig
Fabulous liner / border tile with the face of a pig in the center - nice tooth showing on the side! (OK - maybe it's a boar ). Unmarked, probably Belgian, circa 1880-1900, this measures 6" x 3", molded in relief. High glaze, in pale rose-brown, cream, gold-green, pale purple and pink. Small chip on top edge near the center, and minor edge roughness. (#1438)
