T1022

Vontury Lamp / Pot An outstandingly large piece of art pottery by Vontury. This was obviously originally designed to be used as a lamp base, as evidenced by the factory hole in the bottom. However, this shows beautifully as a pot and would look magnificent on a shelf or table. Measures just a tad under 15" tall and has its largest diameter at about 6 1/2". This is hand painted, under glaze, with stylized buds, flowers and leaves. Background is a high glaze nicely flowing pale brown. The flowers and foliage are executed in shades of greens, muted burgundy, and hues of blues. Although used nicely with art pottery and studio pottery collections, this actually has a porcelain body. Unsigned. there are 3 factory pinholes in the glaze, on the upper part of the neck. No cracks, chips or repairs.

F J. Von Tury was a Hungarian immigrant who founded his pottery in Metuchen, New Jersey in 1939. His works are sometimes signed "Vontury". (#T-1022)

T1460

National Tile Company ashtray An outstanding semi matte burgundy glaze on this pottery ashtray made by the National Tile Company, of Anderson, Indiana. Made prior to 1947, when the company changed its name to the "National Tile and Manufacturing Company. Measures 4 1/4" x 3 1/2". I'm pretty sure these were made as give-aways - to promote and advertise the company! There are quite a few small glaze impurties - but this still shows nicely. No chips, flakes, cracks or other bad things! An uncommon item for this tile company. (#T-1460)

T1806

Devonmoor England Studio Art Pottery Vase This is a gorgeous studio art pottery vase made by Devenmoor Art Pottery, in Newton Abbot, England. It is 9 1/2" tall, and has a diameter of about 6" at the widest. Fabulous drippy and streaky multiple glazes make the vase. Gloss glazes showing green, blues, and golds. There is one tiny factory glaze impurity (see photo). This company was formed in 1913, closed in 1914, and reopened in 1922. Date unknown on this piece, although stylistically it looks to be from the 1930's. In outstanding condition. (#T-1806)

Bloomfield Pottery pitcher Nice matte gold glaze on the big pitcher made by Bloomfield Pottery. Measures 5 ˝" tall, and has a diameter of 6". There is most of a paper label on the bottom as well as an impressed rectangular mark. This says "Bloomfield Pottery East Bloomfield, NY" I can find no further info on this great piece - certainly looks to be from around 1920. There is a glaze flake on the top outside edge of the pitcher, as well as a small shallow flake on the inner spout. Generally, in very nice condition. (#T-1457)

244942

Serpent and animal pottery tray The central design on this heavy hand made pottery tray looks a winged sea serpent biting the head of an animal. Or, perhaps, the two animals are really one? Done in a high glaze turquoise, this tray measures roughly 13 x 9, with an inch high pie crust edge. The rectangular center area is a raised surface itself, and then the design is in moderate relief. Generally nice condition, there are some areas of light glaze flaking and other areas where the glaze did not flow. No obvious marks on this weighty piece of clay. (#T-1005)
