T1325
Chinese Tile - Man Riding Horse and River This hand made tile has an interesting scene - with a man riding a horse up the bank of a river, while one horse remains in the river and another is standing on the other side of the river. Measuring about 7 1/2" square, with a touch a variation since the tile is not perfectly square. The figures are incised, and the tile has pleasing muted semi matte glaze colors of a dark gold to brown, green, navy blue and cream. This is #3 of 4 of a series; this one has a cream background. Excellent condition. Unmarked, age unknown but I suspect these might be from the late 20th Century. (#T1325)

T1502
Rare Unitile Fox Hunt Panel This fabulous large architectural tile panel is done in a wonderful array of high glazes. Made by Unitile, out of Urichsville, Ohio - this company was only in business for 10 years - from 1917 - 1929. This is an extra "piece" from a larger set of panels originally made for the Cincinnati library.

The panel depicts two men on horseback, probably on a hunt, with a tree trunk and many leafy branches above them. The design is incised to look like a large mosaic.

This tile panel measures just under 16" long, 10" across the top, 12" across the bottom, and is 1 3/4" thick. There is a chip along the bottom edge, and a few small glaze flakes on the edges. A very hard to find example from this maker. In overall very good condition This is not only a true collector's piece, but could be incorporated nicely into a building (interior or exterior), a garden area, or framed. (#T-1502)

1805
American Encaustic Alhambra tile - #2 Alhambra was a line of tiles produced by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, of Zanesville, Ohio. Circa 1920, this 6" square tile has a mosaic look with 4 pink fleur de lys in the center, surrounded by a circle, and 4 larger fleur de lys in the corners - off white background color. Someone affixed to wood pieces to the bottom, and then painted these, the back and the sides a dark brown color - turning this into a wonderfully usable trivet! A tiny bit of discoloration (truly barely noticeable) in one corner. Generally very nice condition. We have a pair of these in stock - please see "American Encaustic Alhambra Tile - #1" in our inventory. (#1805)

1477
Four Tile Cattail Panel by American Encaustic This 4 tile vertical panel was made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, of Zanesville, Ohio around 1890. Each tile measures 6" square, and is done in a brownish green majolica glaze. The four tiles display nicely together, however note that the pattern on the top and second tiles don't match up exactly. There would have been another tile in the pattern between these. All tiles are in very nice condition, with only the most minor edge wear. There is an extra tile with the set - that is a duplicate of the second tile from the top (for a total of 5 tiles). We have a 3 tile cattail panel in a lime green glaze as well. (#1477)

1478
Art Deco Architectural Tile Great true Art Deco tile - measures 5" x 5 3/4" x 1/2" thick. Raised line technique, with colors of orange, green and blue. Reminds me of an Art Deco theater. Factory unevenness on the top right corner - glaze goes over the side. Marked with 3 impressed numbers on the top. Circa 1915. One scratch in the glaze in the lower right area - not bad though. Maker unknown - looks like it could be American Encaustic. (#1478)

T1401
Large Figural Architectural Tiles by Enfield Pottery These fabulous unglazed architectural tiles were made by Enfield Pottery, circa 1920. Each of these somewhat massive tiles measures 9 3/8" square by almost 1 1/2" thick! The superior designs are pressed into the tiles. The one on the diagonal, with the two central animals, is titled "Griffons and Birds of San Miniato". The other is titled "Eagle of San Miniato". The clay color is yellow to buff. The Griffon tile has a small edge on the top (as shown in the photo), the Eagle tile has a small upper left corner chip. Both are generally in very good condition. Great for a building or garden project. Enfield produced many fine tiles, and these are excellent examples of their work. (#T-1401)

TDeco
Art Deco Reticulated Architectural Figural Tiles This pair of amazing Art Deco reticulated tiles was made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company of Zanesville, Ohio. Each of these large tiles measure 9" square and 1" thick. The glaze on both is a gun metal black with silver trim on the interior edges of the design and self framing edge. Fabulous Art Deco matched designs of a man throwing a spear on one tile, and a woman throwing a weapon on the other. There is exceedingly minor edge roughness on both, and a back edge chip on one - generally outstanding condition for these unusual and large items. The backs are both impressed with AETCO, and Z101L (on the left one) and Z101R (on the right one). Written, in glaze, on the back is "COL 03192 SILVER" and "Z-101" or "Z-101L". I believe the age to be circa 1920. (#T-1609)
