Delft Polychrome Tile
Wonderful multi-colored Delft tile – done in polychrome glazes. The central scene is of a church, harbor and boat. Gorgeous blue and white designs frame the central scene. Age unknown, but my guess is 19th Century. Measures 5 7/8" square – obviously still has part of a "building" still attached to it – cool piece of brick! The tile face is in very good condition. Anton Lang Hand Painted Flower Tile
This tile was hand painted by Anton Lang and depicts flowers and leaves – perhaps a dandelion? Or sunflowers and columbine? Measures 4 ¾" square. Impressed signature on the back. Anton Lang was born in 1913 and was a German studio potter. His pottery is relatively scarce still. In excellent condition. (#1591)

Porcelain Tile Plaque with Roses
This is a lovely porcelain hand painted tile plaque featuring roses and their leaves. One wonderful bud is open near the bottom, with 3 other roses in various stages above it. Signed and dated "Carole Ann 80" in the lower right corner. This measures 14 3/4" x 8 3/4". I have not unframed this, but I suspect that the tile itself measures about 12" x 6" (a fairly standard size). The frame is wood (in two muted tones of brown and green). The plaque is in excellent condition. There is a minor separation in the upper right corner of the frame (can be fixed with one small brad or nail) - and there is a piece of felt on the bottom edge of the frame. A classic Victorian look - roses are very desirable in tiles and plaques. (#T-1071)

Hand Painted Antique Porcelain Plaques
Beautifully detailed, hand painting on this pair of porcelain plaques. Each plaque measures 15 3/4" tall by 8 3/4" wide. Total size with frame 18 1/2" by 10 1/2". European in origin, circa 1880, unmarked. Both plaques are signed by the artist, one in the lower left corner, the other in the lower right corner. The scenes are elegant ladies of the period, dressed in their finest. One appears to be outside of a church or chapel, carrying a rosary. The other appears to be opening a letter of gift, and is wearing a chatelaine. The plaque at the chapel has one long crack, running horizontally across the piece (about 2" up from the bottom), and glued together. The fortunate thing is that the crack is not tremendously noticeable from the front. A professional restoration would easily make this invisible. (#T-1070)

Delft Tile Blue and White with Woman
This classic Delft tile is painted blue on white. Depicts a bare breasted woman wearing a hat, with something over her right shoulder. This is highly unusual in that her upper anatomy is bared! Minor wear to edges, and appears to have been previously set. Age is unknown. Measures approximately 5 1/8" square. (#1291)

Exquisite Hand Painted Antique Tile by Trent
This small hexagonal tile has an exquisitely hand painted scene of a shepherdess and her flock. She is leaning on her staff while sheep graze in the background. Measuring 2 3/8" from point to point, this is executed on a Trent Tile Company blank. Made in Trenton, New Jersey, around 1890. Artist's initials on the back. Painted in shades of green with a white background, clear high glaze on the top. In outstanding condition. (#SMBxTrent)

Antique Porcelain Tile Plaque
This magnificent porcelain plaque is European in origin, probably dating around 1900, perhaps a tad earlier. This hand painted piece depicts a peasant girl looking down at coins in her hand and on the table. She is surrounded by the utilitarian furnishing in the house. Signed in the lower right corner by the artist. Plaque measures 9 3/4" x 7 1/8". The period frame (perhaps original to the piece), is wood and gesso. The frame has some wear, chips to all outside corners, a wear spot to the middle of the left edge (with the gold near the plaque) and the top right corner. The plaque itself is in outstanding condition. (#T-1068)

Wedgwood hand painted tile with woman
Beautiful colors on this Wedgwood hand painted tile. Measures 6" square, and is framed to 8", this shows the face of woman, wearing a garden hat, with a tree scene in the background, all framed by a circle. Butterflies dance around the right side of the circle, while a spider web sits in the lower right corner. This has not been unframed. Dating from circa 1890, the tile is in excellent condition. Deruta Pottery Tile with Crest
This is a classic onto itself - a wonderful pottery tile made in Deruta, Italy. The tile is adorned with colors of blue, white, yellow and green, and has a central design of a shield (or crest) surround by flower petals. Measures just a bit over 5" square, this handmade ceramic tile is marked on the back. There is also a terrific paper label from the store in which it was originally sold - it says " P. Cartoni Co. 420 Boylston St. Boston Florentine Arts". There are several small and minor edge chips and wear to the corners. The tile face is in lovely condition. Age in unknown but certainly pre 1950.

Vintage Hand Painted Great Dane Tile
Fabulous portrait of a Great Dane dog on this 6" square tile. Done on an English Thynne tile blank, this was hand painted and signed F. Vosmansky. Probably circa 1950 - perhaps a tad earlier, this is in outstanding condition. Set into a metal trivet, but easily removed from that if you prefer. (#T-1145)
