4860

Lion Head Glass Novelty Some collectors of Lion glass believe this was originally a jar lid. I have not seen any documentation of the maker or original use. It is a superb piece of glass. You will find in raised letters on the center back the word "PENDING". My assumption is that the patent was pending on this design. Great detail in eyes, nose and mouth. Frosted glass. 3 ½" d. x 1 7/8" h. Three miniscule flakes on the front at 4 and 5 o’clock. (#4860)

G128A

Liberty Bell Novelty This piece stands 3 ¾" h x 3 ¼" wide at base. It reads " LEV XXV-X Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land and to All the Inhabitants Thereof". Below that inscription, "Liberty Bell" and below that "1776." On the inside bottom " Pat. Apl’d For." Metz pictures this bell in "Much More Early American Pattern Glass", pg. 210. She attributes it as being made for the St. Louis Exposition in 1903. The pictured bell appears to have had a glass base in which it sat. The original gold goofus paint is very worn. Glass condition is excellent. (#G128)
