USS Maine Pottery Plate This 9" pottery plate was made by the International Pottery Co., Trenton, NJ c.1900. Orange luster edge. Probably transfer printed with some additional hand coloring. Very good condition with a little wear on the black line outlining the inner rim of the plate. (283E)

US Maine Pottery Plate A magnificent multi-colored, transfer printed plate with touches of hand painting , from about 1898. Scroll says" US Battleship Maine Destroyed in Havana Harbor Feb. 15 1898." One miniscule flake on the outer red band. The underside shows wear on the foot rim. Made by the Edwin Bennett Pottery Company. (285E)

Our Nation in War – book by Graham Our Nation in War, copyright 1898, CR. Graham ; published by Historical Publishing Co., Philadelphia, PA. Clothbound. 13 x 11 An amazing hodgepodge of black and white reproductions of famous paintings and illustrations, and photographs from mostly the Spanish American War, but including illustrations from the Revolutionary War, Civil War and the Indian Wars. Also included are photos and illustrations of geographic areas involved in the wars as well as the populace of those areas. Lots of photos of troops from various states. Condition is poor. Book is separated from the spine, at least 8 separate pages were stuck together and unstuck. Although not noticeable, every page has ripples in the middle.

Bates Plate Minerva Pattern Minerva was made by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Co., c. 1870. The Bates plate is one of the more difficult pieces to find in the Minerva pattern. John Coulter Bates served in Lincoln’s cabinet, also in the Spanish American War as a Major-General. 7 ¾" d. without tab handles. There are 3 smudged areas of wear in the clear center, one to the left and 2 to the right of the bust portrait – the largest is ½" long. There is a 3/8" long under edge rim chip at the top edge of the plate. (5472)

Photographic illustrations of the battleships, cruisers, monitors, gunboats, submarine-destroyers and auxiliary vessels of the Spanish American War. 13x11 clothbound with broken binding. Front flyleaf missing. Title page separated from book, torn at bottom and stained. Bottom of first 20 or so pages discolored, 4 pages near back have been stuck together and photographs damaged when pulled apart. Discolored and light dirt marks on border edges of photographs. In general, poor condition.

Admiral George Dewey Tumbler This 3 ¾" tumbler features an applied oval decal of Admiral George Dewey. The method of attachment is unknown to me but undoubtedly factory done as the decal reflects the same kind of "shine" as the glass .Due to improper cooling of the glass the top rim is "out of round." USS Maine Album This celluloid and velvet covered photo album depicts the Battleship Maine and Captain Sigsbee. A Spanish American war commemorative, c. 1901-1905. The binding is broken and the clasp latch is missing. There are 15 heavy cardboard photo pages, the edges enhanced with gold leaf or gold paint. The celluloid is free of cracks. 10 ¼" h x 8 ½" l x a ¾" deep. The 20 + photos inside are period photos of family and special occasion events of that era. None of the photos are Span-Am war related. SpanAm War - Hobson Tile This 6" square tile depicts Richmond Pearson Hobson (1870-1937) - done in multi color transfer printing with a clear majolica glaze. Made by the Columbia Encaustic Tiling Company of Anderson, Indiana, which was in business from 1889 - 1903. Hobson served with Admiral Sampson on the USS New York, and is considered one of the heros of the Spanish American War. Tile has 2 edge chips and generally rough edge. There is quite a bit of scratching to the tile surface. An extremely unusual, hard to find, historical commemorative tile. Note that we have another tile in this historical series - one depicting Admiral Sampson. (#1153)

Admiral Sampson Antique Tile This 6" square tile depicts Admiral William T. Sampson - done in multi color transfer printing with a clear majolica glaze. Made by the Columbia Encaustic Tiling Company of Anderson, Indiana, which was in business from 1889 - 1903. According to Wikipedia, William Thomas Sampson (1840 - 1902) was a Untied State Navy admiral known for his victory in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba during the Spanish American War. Tile has minor edge chips - generally in very nice condition. An unusual, hard to find, historical commemorative tile. Note that we have another tile in this series - Richmond Hobson. (#1329)
