T1877
American Encaustic Tiling Company Inkwell Nice pottery inkwell made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, of Zanesville, Ohio, as an advertising piece, for their company. The inkwell has an area for two pens to rest (near the front), and two wells for ink - the lids are missing. The AETCO logo, within a circle, sits between the two wells. Super light blue high glaze. This measures just shy of 6" across, 5" from back to front, and sits about 1 1/2" high. My best guess is that this was made around 1930 - 1940. In excellent condition. This would be great for pens and paper clips on a desk. (#T-1877)

Hot Air Balloon Paperweight / Doorknob Great hot air balloon design hand painted onto this lovely piece. Not sure if this is a paperweight or a door knob - I did not fully remove the felt from the back. Nice creamy porcelain. Measures 2 1/2" in diam by about 1 1/4" high. In excellent condition - circa 1890 - 1900.

Fulper Pottery Deco Bookends These mod looking bookends were made by Fulper Pottery in Flemington, New Jersey. Each measures 6" high by 5 5/8" wide, and the depth of the foot is 3". Each have the racetrack mark which dates them from 1922- 1928. Gorgeous brown/tan/gold mottled glazes. These have both been professionally restored - fairly extensively. They did a beautiful job and the bookends display well and look terrific. You can see the restoration on the underside of the foot part. (#T1868)

T1466
American Encaustic AETCO Advertising Pottery Inkwell This outstanding ceramic inkwell was made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, of Zanesville, Ohio, as an advertising piece, for their company. The inkwell has an area for two pens to rest (near the front), and two wells for ink, with the original pottery lids. The AETCO logo, within a circle, sits between the two wells. The logo is faint because the glaze was so heavily pooled. done in varying shades of blue, with tints of gold showing up in places, the glaze is truly wonderful. This measures just shy of 6" across, 5" from back to front, and sits about 1 1/2" high. Dating the pottery made by AET is tricky; my best guess is that this was made around 1930 - 1940. The well, and the two lids, are in excellent condition. (#T-1466)

Click for more detail...
1126
Antique Advertising Pottery Pen Holder for Tile Company This great advertising piece for Sajan & Company looks like it's a pen or pencil holder, but certainly doubles as a paperweight. The top says "Suppliers to Govt P.W.D. and Native States", then under Sajan & Co, "Fort No 1 Bombay Merchants & Contractors". The sides say "English Floor Wall Tiles Mosaic Tiles All Building Materials AT Moderate Rates".

Made on a dust pressed blank, this hexagonal ceramic piece measures 4 1/2" from point to point, and just under 4" to the flat sides. A fabulous green majolica glaze covers the words, done in intaglio technique. I believe Sajan & Company was located in India - and this piece certainly has the feel of something from circa 1900, but that's just an educated guess. There are some small glaze nips to the outside edges, and only the most minor of wear on the face. Generally in very nice condition- what an unusual piece for a tile or pottery collection, and an example of historical memorabilia. (#T1126)

San Jose Pottery Bookends These bookends are very nice examples of the work done by San Jose Potteries in San Antonio, Texas. The scene depicted on each book end is a cock fight. Shown in the scene are three men wearing colorful clothing and donning sombreros. They are watching two cocks fighting. There is a large cactus in the right background and another palm type plant on the left side. This is done in wonderful vibrant glaze colors - 8 glaze colors!
