Wheatley Pottery of Cincinnati, Ohio was the maker of this deeply carved tile. Measuring 6" square x ¾" thick, this has a background color of muted gray, and recessed colors of salmon, pale mint green, and teal blue. All matte glazes. Dating from ca 1915, this is marked "WP" on the reverse, and has two sets of numbers. #1097 is the catalog number. Although de-installed, this is in truly excellent condition. The glaze is hand applied, and does not flow into every crevice, adding to its true uniqueness. There are two <1/16" edge nips. A fine example of this pottery’s work with unusual colors. (#1107)
