A very nice trivet made by the American Encaustic Tiling Co., to commemorate a field day for the Pittsburgh Tile Industry. This is dated July 31, 1926. The motif is based on a design done by Walter Crane (in England), and shows a man boasting about his feats. A whimsical saying also adorns this 6" square tile. In generally very good condition, there are 2 surface scratches (about1" long and through the glaze) near the standing mans left leg. These are in fact, fairly difficult to see. A very nice example of a storybook/fable tile. This series of Nursery Rhyme tiles look great as a set! (#1118) |
