Cakestands, or cake plates, are not often found in romantic staffordshire. This lovely example is in the "Dartmouth" pattern, made in England around 1860. Done in black transfer on a cream background the designs are wonderful: picture frames of Norwich, Dartmouth Castle, Salisbury Cathedral, and another ocean scene with gulls. 3 small scenes are printed on the underside of the plate as well. This Aesthetic Movement piece measures 9 1/2" in diameter and is 5" high. The dogwoods and butterflies on this are fabulous! There is light staining to the underside of the foot. Otherwise, this piece is in excellent condition. (#T-1456) |
