This round, stoneware paperweight measures 2 7/8" in diameter and is 1" in height. This has a press molded design in relief of the "Block House Old Fort Hays Wats, Kansas". The fort itself was established in 1865, as a US Army Post protecting railroad travellers on the Smoky Hill Trail. The Block House is one a four original buildings still standing.

The paperweight was made by Fort Hays State College Pottery, between 1935 - 1948. Done in a brown majolica glaze, this is in excellent condition.
