Manufacturer: as described An outstandingly large piece of art pottery by Vontury. This was obviously originally designed to be used as a lamp base, as evidenced by the factory hole in the bottom. However, this shows beautifully as a pot and would look magnificent on a shelf or table. Measures just a tad under 15" tall and has its largest diameter at about 6 1/2". This is hand painted, under glaze, with stylized buds, flowers and leaves. Background is a high glaze nicely flowing pale brown. The flowers and foliage are executed in shades of greens, muted burgundy, and hues of blues. Although used nicely with art pottery and studio pottery collections, this actually has a porcelain body. Unsigned. there are 3 factory pinholes in the glaze, on the upper part of the neck. No cracks, chips or repairs.
F J. Von Tury was a Hungarian immigrant who founded his pottery in Metuchen, New Jersey in 1939. His works are sometimes signed "Vontury". (#T-1022)
