This rectangular glass platter ( bread plate ) honors the Grand Army of the Republic which was organized in 1866. The GAR insignia forms the center panel. Engraved in small letters on the medal in that center panel is " Grand Army of the Republic Veteran 1861-1866." United States shields decorate the corners. Illustrated in Lindsey "American Historical Glass. " 11 1/8" l x 7 5/8" w. c. 1870-1880. Excellent condition. (#5593)
