Manufacturer: Columbia Encaustic Tiling Company This 6" square tile depicts Admiral William T. Sampson - done in multi color transfer printing with a clear majolica glaze. Made by the Columbia Encaustic Tiling Company of Anderson, Indiana, which was in business from 1889 - 1903. According to Wikipedia, William Thomas Sampson (1840 - 1902) was a Untied State Navy admiral known for his victory in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba during the Spanish American War. Tile has minor edge chips - generally in very nice condition. An unusual, hard to find, historical commemorative tile. Note that we have another tile in this series - Richmond Hobson. (#1329)
