This outstanding portrait depicts the Prince of Orange and has the words " Guillaume Premier Prince D'Orange". The body is molded in high relief, and the words are in lower relief. This plaque measures 5 1/4" in diameter, and is done on a buff colored clay. Stamped on the back with the makers mark " St. Briac Ille-et-Vilaine" and a conjoined backwards E and B.
Done in a medium turquoise majolica glaze - in excellent condition. Age and maker are unknown, although this company seems to have made tiles depicting famous persons. See the other tile I have in stock depicting Marianne - Republique Sociale. (#T-1286)
