Manufacturer: tile maker This is a fabulous unglazed stove tile - done in raised relief. Has a left facing profile of a man wearing an ornate helmet. On the right hand side is the cipher of the modeler - I have been unable to decipher this or attribute it to anyone - and the tile is exceedingly well done. In the back of my mind I always thought this could be a Low tile....? Definitely dates around 1880-1900 - and is American. The tile measures 2 3/4" in diameter. Plain flat back. I have not cleaned this - and it could do with some cleaning. There is a chip at about 1:00 o'clock (near the top of the helmet), two smaller nips across from his mouth, tiny little nips on the back/bottom edge.
