Chi-Rho - this symbol is one of the earliest used by Christians. The first two letters of the Greek words "chi" and "rho" are conjoined to form the symbol. The tile measures 6 1/8" square and is 1/4" thick Made by The Mosaic Tile Company of Zanesville, Ohio, ca 1950's. Done in wax resist technique - done in mostly matte glazes - with the burgundy in high glaze. Minor rubbing to some of the burgundy glaze. Beautifully made - in very good condition. Paper label on the back dated February 13, 1957 - design #4455 - size 6" x 6". This is a sample tile - wow! One of eight available in this rare series. (#1411)
