Manufacturer: Mosaic Tile Company The legend about the pelican mother piercing her breast to feed her young her blood - so they would not starve - preceeded Christianity. The Christians adopted this symbol to represent Jesus Christ. Made by The Mosaic Tile Company of Zanesville, Ohio, ca 1950's. The tile measures 6 1/8" square and is 1/4" thick Done in wax resist technique - done in mostly matte glazes - with the burgundy in high glaze. Tiny nick in the burgundy glaze on the bottom left edge. In very good condition. One of eight available in this rare series. (#1418)
