1077
Edlund Red Wood Handle Egg Beater; Patent Date 1931 This is an old egg beater labelled on one side of the round wheel with "Edlund Company, Patent No. 1789224 - Other Pat Pend., Made in U.S.A., Burlington, VT". The patent number indicates the patent for this vintage beater was issued in 1931 (the beater could be made after that year under that patent number; this beater does look to us to be of circa 1930s vintage, although we can't guarantee that). It has two painted red wood handles at the top and to turn the wheel, with a double metal beater, each labelled "Stainless" on the side. Measures about 11 3/4 inches in length, about 4 1/2 inches greatest width.

Fully rotates, but does so in a jerky manner, not smooth, probably indicating it needs some oiling, but we are selling it as is, as found. We've done only minor surface wiping, could use a good cleaning (but some people like them looking used, so we leave alone). Very nice used condition with no visible dents, breaks, parts missing that we see. However it does show much age with wear to the wood handles (including paint wear, but not as bad as many we see, paint is largely still there), and much brown spotting/dirt/rust on the metal (some of this might come off with brillo but we haven't tried). A good bit of this is on the wheel, covering some of the letters or numbers. We've tried to show this in the images, please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflection from the camera.

Still a nice addition to any collection of antique egg beaters, kitchen collectibles, kitchen utensils or kitchen gadgets.

1079
Old Metal Curly Wire Whisk Spoon-shaped A neat antique whisk, in the shape of a spoon but fully "open" and made of heavy metal twisted wire. Has 6 curly wires in the spoon oval portion which do the "whisking" and a three strand wire handle, with the middle strand made of two wires twisted together. A great vintage look which would be a neat decoration in a kitchen hanging on a wall.

Measures about 10 1/2 inches in length, 3 inches greatest width. Excellent old condition, with no apparent breaks, bends, pieces missing as far as we can tell. We've done only a surface wiping and are selling it as is/as found. The metal has the dark gray aged color, with wear, rust and dirt spotting, etc., but nothing really objectionable -- it looks old and used like one would expect.

A nice addition to any collection of wire whisks or a general collection of kitchen collectibles, kitchen gadgets or kitchen utensils.

1200
Antique Wood Handle Corkscrew An antique wood and metal corkscrew (cork screw). Beautiful medium-colored wood handle (we don't know which wood it is), tube-shaped with rounded ends, wood grain visible throughout. Measures 4 1/4 inches in length from outside top edge of handle to bottom point of spiral, about 3 1/2 inches in width of handle and about 5/8 inch in depth of wood handle.

The metal portion looks to be one piece of thick metal wire which has been twisted into shape. It loops over the handle and then twists under it, but isn't "lock tight" around the wood so you can move the wood around vertically slightly (up or down as if rolling) about a quarter turn (it's not a problem, handle isn't "loose" or going to come out, but we thought you should know it isn't "solidified" in one place). This corkscrew must have been used with some force because the bottom spiral portion has been visibly twisted to one side a bit...it no longer spirals straight down in a line. We've provided 5 images to show from all angles.

Besides the bend discussed, the vintage corkscrew is in nice old used condition. The wood handle has a terrific, rich old look, with the graining hiding most look of wear. There is age/use darkening, scratches in the wood (most visible on the darkened ends), an indented tiny curved line in the center of one end, other surface indents on the ends (these don't look like chips, just perhaps some very small indents due to use), a few white dots, etc...but really nothing bad nor unexpected for an antique piece which was used. The metal portion has an old look with light rust/light orange rust spotting throughout a good portion, and the interior of the end spiral looks like it may have been chipped with use, although still very pointy and very usable.

A nice find which would make a good addition to a collection of vintage corkscrews and other old wood and wood handled kitchen utensils or kitchen collectibles.

Click for more detail...
1078
A&J White Wood Handle Egg Beater; Patent Date 1923 This is an old egg beater labelled on one side of the round wheel with "A&J (in a diamond), Made in U.S.A., PAT. OCT 9, 1923 (the "1" in 1923 and part of the "O" in Oct. are not clear, but this is what it says)". The beater could have been made after that year under that patent, but this beater does look to us to be of circa 1920s vintage, although we can't guarantee that.

It has one painted white wood top handle and an open swirled wire-type metal handle to turn the wheel, with a double metal beater. These are the old type beaters that are just circles rather than having 4 metal pieces (two intertwined circles) for each beater. Measures about 10 3/4 inches in length, about 3 inches greatest width.

Fully rotates in a fast and smooth manner, but does frequestly "catch" causing one to back up a bit to start spinning again. This may indicate that one of the points on the wheel needs adjusting, or it may need some oiling, but we are selling it as is, as found. We've done only minor surface wiping, could use a good cleaning (but some people like them looking used, so we leave alone). Very nice used condition with no visible dents, breaks, parts missing that we see. However it does show much age and wear. The top handle is wobbly -- fully attached, but not firm, freely wobbles side to side and vertically (looks like the metal holding the handle could be clamped firmer to stop this). There is also noticeable wear to the white paint on the handle. The metal parts have much brown spotting/dirt/rust/tarnish/etc. (some of this might come off with brillo but likely not all and we haven't tried). A good bit of this is on the wheel, but also elsewhere. We've tried to show this in the images, please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflection from the camera.

Still a nice addition to any collection of antique egg beaters, kitchen collectibles, kitchen utensils or kitchen gadgets.

Click for more detail...
1080
Early Handmade Hammered Iron Cooking Fork An antique metal (probably iron or wrought iron, but we're not familiar with these things) cooking or serving fork, which looks to be handmade (hand made) and repeatedly "hammered" while being made. We don't think this is cast metal or cast iron, as we believe that wouldn't be handmade. Looks to us like a piece a blacksmith would have made from the style and irregularities or unevenness (does not have the perfectly aligned shape and evenness one expects from pieces made in a manufacturing plant). Our guess is that this is a truly old and early piece -- we can't guarantee that, but it looks like that to us and came from a home with other very old items. The surface is bumpy throughout, not smooth, with variations in thickness and looks in spots like some of the top layer of metal may have come off (but it's fully more metal underneath of the same type).

Measures 13 1/2 inches in length, 2 3/16 inches greatest width. Top of handle is the thinnest portion, with a central oval hole to permit easy hanging by a stove or fire. Fork head has two tines which are slightly misshapen, with varying thickness and indication of pieces missing from years of use (near the end of one tine it has a "cinched" in part due to the wear, with the other tine shows unevenness to the edge from pieces worn away). We've tried to show this in varied images; please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflection from the camera.

Terrific old used condition as described above. Overall dark gray metal color with a light orange rusting mixed into the color throughout (more noticeable on the tines). But it is the unevenness and the wear which makes it believable that this is a really old cooking fork, with all of this adding to the great look of the piece and none of it objectionable.

A neat addition to any collection of antique cooking implements, kitchen collectibles, kitchen utensils or kitchen gadgets.
