1265

Collectible Old France Lead Toy Train Figure Man Walking Carrying Collectible antique toy soldier type of toy of a male walking carrying a coat over one arm. His other hand is slightly curved upwards in a manner that makes us think that he might originally have been meant to be carrying something in this hand, too, such as a briefcase or a suitcase. He might have originally come with something to carry but when we got him from an older home they only had the figure and not anything he would have carried. On the underside are multiple raised letters some of which are clearer or more there than others. You can clearly see "France" in large letters along one end with one or two other lighter strikings of the word "France" nearby, so this figure was made in France. There are also the letters "DE" and part of a "P" which we believe are part of the french word "depose" which means registered (as in a copyrighted or registered design), and the letters "CS" or "GS" (we're not sure which...).

We don't know if he was originally sold as a figure to be used with a train set or a village display (such as a Christmas village or Christmas scene display) or as part of some other old toy set or scene. He is definitely an old, antique or vintage piece, although we don't know his exact age (we are not toy dealers and just describe what we see). He is definitely made of a cast metal which we believe could be lead from similar pieces we've handled and seen. As such, we will only sell this piece to adult collectors, it should be handled with care and it should not be given to children to play with due to concerns with lead exposure.

The man stands about 2 1/4 inches tall, 1 inch wide and 3/4 inches in depth at the base. There is a tiny hole on the top of his head, which we believe was made in manufacture, from separating him from the mold in which he was made. We have provided 7 images to try and show from all sides and details for condition purposes, with the figure also shown with a quarter for size comparison. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting. This lighting makes his coloring seem a little bit lighter & brighter than it is in person. When you first put him down on a table he "wobbles" slightly before settling into place because the relatively square base on which he stands/walks is not flat and curves slightly. You can also see in the images that he leans to one side a little bit or is slightly slanted, as someone could be when walking over uneven ground. We don't know if this is how he was made or whether his base and he were slightly bent over time.

A very nice piece but he does show his age and wear, and is not mint. There are no chips or breaks that we see. There is paint wear, paint chipping/flaking but somewhat less than what we often see. There is paint wear on his face, hat, and body/clothing with the gray base metal showing through in spots. The bright camera lighting may "bland out" some of the paint wear making some of it hard to see, but a "rough" guess would be that 80%+ of his paint is still there. The paint looks original to us, he does not appear to have been repainted. There is also wear and indented areas to the underside base on which the piece stands. We are selling this as is/as found. None of this is unexpected for an antique piece like this and supports its age.

A great addition for a collectors group of small vintage toy figures. Could be incorporated into an older train set or diorama or other display dealing with American life in general.

23552

Collectible Old Britains England Lead Toy Train Figure Worker Laborer Collectible antique toy soldier type of toy of a male worker or laborer of some type, but we don't know what type. His hands are very curved in a manner that makes us believe that he was meant to 'carry' something, such as pushing a wheel barrow in front of him or carrying some sort of rods or stick type objects. We expect that he originally came with something to carry but when we got him from an older home they only had the figure and not anything he would have carried. On the underside are raised letters which, while some are very worn, say 'Britains Ltd, Proprietors, Made in England, Copyright', so he is a Britains figure.

As such, we will only sell this piece to adult collectors, it should be handled with care and should not be given to children to play with due to concerns with lead exposure.

The man stands about 2 1/4 inches tall, 1 inch wide and 7/8 inches in depth at the base. There is a pin hole on the top of his head, which we believe was made in manufacture, from separating him from the mold in which he was made. We have provided 7 images to try and show from all sides and details for condition purposes, with the figure also shown with a quarter for size comparison. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting. This lighting makes his coloring seem a little bit lighter & brighter than it is in person. You will see in the images from the sides that he, as made, is not standing straight but is leaning slightly forward (as one might expect if you were wheeling or pushing something).

While a fun piece, he clearly has been used and played with and shows his age, so he is not mint. There are no chips or breaks that we see. There is much paint wear, paint chipping/flaking including some paint near/under both of his arms which looks to be peeling upwards so it may flake off. There is paint wear on his face, hands and arms, and clothing with the gray base metal showing through. The bright camera lighting "blands out" some of the paint wear making some of it hard to see, but please understand it is there (a "rough" guess would be that 70%+ of his paint is still there). The paint looks original to us, he does not appear to have been repainted. There is also wear to the underside base on which the piece stands. We are selling this as is/as found. None of this is unexpected for an antique piece like this and supports its age.

A nifty addition for a collectors group of small vintage toy figures. Could be incorporated into an older train set or diorama or other display dealing with workers or working figures or American life in general.

Click for more detail...
1266

Collectible Old France Lead Toy Train Figure Man Conductor Bad Arm Collectible antique toy soldier type of toy of what we believe to be a male train conductor or railroad conductor or other similar train worker. He is in the black uniform or suit and black hat or cap often seen for train conductors. What is most important to note about him is the condition of one of his arms. He must have originally been made to have one movable arm, with the molded arm having at the shoulder end a circular piece with a hole in the middle to fit onto a tiny rod or knob so that it could be moved back and forth. At some point the metal forming the open circle must have broken so that the arm could no longer fit onto or stay on the rod. The arm piece is still here, but someone has done a "rough repair," attaching it to the body via a copper colored wire that is twisted around the upper arm and then looped around the man's neck. The arm is definitely attached, will not fall off and can be moved slightly, but it is certainly not as originally made. Someone good with metal and solder could perhaps repair the circular portion so that the arm could function and fit properly again, but we are selling this as is/as found. Also, the conductor is carrying some sort of small rod in the hand of this arm. We can't tell for certain if the end of this rod is as was originally made or has been broken off, as if originally he was carrying something longer in size. Perhaps the rod is/was meant to be a flashlight or a ticket punch (like conductors have on trains), either at the current size or originally bigger.

This piece was made in France with the word "France" appearing twice on the underside of the base in both raised and impressed letters. We can also see the letters "DE" and part of a "P" which we believe are part of the french word "depose" which means registered (as in a copyrighted or registered design). We don't know if it was originally sold as a figure to be used with a train set or a village display (such as a Christmas village or Christmas scene display) or as part of some other old toy set or scene. He is definitely an old, antique or vintage piece, although we don't know his exact age (we are not toy dealers and just describe what we see). He is definitely made of a cast metal which we believe could be lead from similar pieces we've handled and seen. As such, we will only sell this piece to adult collectors, it should be handled with care and should not given to children to play with due to concerns with lead exposure.

The man stands about 2 1/4 inches tall, 7/8 inch wide and about 1/2 inch in depth at the base. There is a tiny incomplete hole on the top tip of his hat with a raised bump nearby which we believe was made in manufacture, from separating him from the mold in which he was made. We have provided 7 images to try and show from all sides and details for condition purposes, with the figure also shown with a quarter for size comparison. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting. This lighting makes his coloring seem a bit lighter & brighter than it is in person.

Beyond his arm issue, he shows other age and wear. His chin has a tiny flat circular spot which may be from being worn or chipped here, and a tiny worn spot on his nose. There is paint wear, paint chipping/flaking on his face, hands, hat, and body/clothing with the gray base metal showing through in spots. The bright camera lighting may "bland out" some of the paint wear making some of it hard to see, but it is there (a "rough" guess would be that 75%+ of his paint is still there). The paint looks original to us, he does not appear to have been repainted. There are indented spots and a small curved line crack on the underside base on which he stands as well as white paint or dirt.

Usable within a collectors group of small vintage toy figures. Could be incorporated into an older train set or diorama or other display dealing with transportation or American life in general.

Click for more detail...
1271

Britains Toy Lead Train Figure Seated Woman Missing Movable Arm Collectible antique small old lead figure of a seated woman. We think the lady is dressed like a servant or housewife with a white apron over her pink dress and tied at her back in a bow. She was made in England by Britains. On the backside of her pink dress near the hem in raised letters are the words "Made England, Britains Ltd., Proprietors, Copyright".

What is most important to note about this piece is that the woman is missing her right arm. There is a knob present, the kind of which we have seen on other similar pieces when one arm is movable (the arm would have a circular end with a hole in it which would fit over this knob to permit moving it forward and backward). So, we believe she once had a movable arm but, as sometimes happens, the piece broke off and we do not have it. This is the manner in which we got her from an older home, and we are selling this as is/as found. Please note that the she probably originally came with something to sit on such as a bench or chair, but we don't have that piece, either.

We don't know if this figure was originally sold to be used with a train set or a village display (such as a Christmas village or Christmas scene display) or as part of some other old toy set or scene. It definitely is an old, antique or vintage piece, although we don't know the exact age (we are not toy dealers and just describe what we see). She is definitely made of a cast metal which we believe could be lead from similar pieces we've handled and seen. As such, we will only sell this to adult collectors, it should be handled with care and should not be given to children to play with due to concerns with lead exposure.

The woman is about 1 3/4 inches in length laying down, with a width of about 3/4 inch, and her "height" when laying on a table is about 1 inch to the topside tip of her hair. There is a tiny circular indented or concave spot at the top of the woman's head which we believe was made in manufacture, from separating her from the mold in which they she was made. We have provided 7 images to try and show from differing angles and details for condition purposes, with the figure also shown with a quarter for size comparison. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting.

Beyond the missing arm, this piece shows other age and wear. There is a dot hole in the woman's left eye (the other eye is just painted over in a peach skin color and we think it may be that the paint here had an air bubble that burst leaving the open hole or perhaps something pressed into this area, but it is a very even looking oval hole). Her nose seems very flat with worn paint gray metal edges, but there is skin colored paint between these edge nose lines so we don't think it was broken off. There is paint wear, paint chipping/flaking. You can see the large area of paint loss on the woman's front apron, with other loss on her arm, upper dress, face, hair, back and seat area of dress, etc., with lots of gray metal showing through. The bright camera lighting may "bland out" some of the paint wear making some of it hard to see, but it is there. The paint looks original to us, she does not appear to have been repainted.

This figure could be used within a collectors group of small vintage toy figures or incorporated into an older train set or diorama or other display dealing with country life or American life in general.

Click for more detail...
1272

Antique England Toy Lead Train Figure Man Carrying Pig, Missing Feet Collectible antique small old lead figure of a man carrying an animal which looks like a pig, although the coloring is gray rather than pink. The man could be a farmer carrying his pig or a butcher from the white frock coat, perhaps carrying the animal from market back to his store. His hat looks like the older type worn by firemen, so he also could be a fireman carrying the pig or animal away from a fire. He was made in England. The man is labelled on the backside of his white/ivory coat near the bottom in raised letters "Copyright England" (not all the letters in "Copyright" are there but this is clearly what the word is). It is possible that the male figure is a Britains piece, but we can't promise that since Britains, Ltd. Proprietors does not appear.

What is most important to note about this piece is that both of his legs are broken above the feet, so the feet and base are missing and the man can not presently stand. A handy person could still stand the man in a display or diorama via inserting his legs into some putty, however, this is the manner in which we got him from an older home, and we are selling him as is/as found.

He is definitely made of a cast metal which we believe could be lead from similar pieces we've handled and seen. As such, we will only sell this to adult collectors, it should be handled with care and should not be given to children to play with due to concerns with lead exposure.

The man laying down currently has a length of about 2 inches, with a width of 3/4 inch and a depth of about 5/8 inch. There is a broken off piece at the top tip of the man's black hat which we believe was made in manufacture, from separating him from the mold in which he was made. We have provided 7 images to try and show from differing angles and details for condition purposes, with the man also shown with a quarter for size comparison. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting.

Beyond the missing feet, this piece shows other age and wear. There is paint wear, paint chipping/flaking. The man's paint loss is generally small flaked spot areas with gray metal showing through. There are some larger areas on paint loss on his legs, arms/hands and hat, and smaller paint wear areas including line ridge wear areas on his white coat and face. The bright camera lighting may "bland out" some of the paint wear making some of it hard to see, but it is there. The paint looks original to us, he does not appear to have been repainted.

This figure could be used within a collectors group of small vintage toy figures or incorporated into an older train set or diorama or other display dealing with country life or American life in general.
