Souvenir China Butter Pat by Enco of Yellowstone National Park, Old Faithful, in Wyoming Pretty little commemorative or souvenir china piece, a butter pat from Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming with a center graphic of the wonderful geyser, Old Faithful. The words "Yellowstone National Park" and "Old Faithful" appear above and below, respectively, the multi-colored graphic of the geyser shooting water into the sky in the middle of this small dish. There is an ornamental gold leaf design around the upper edge. On the backside the piece is labelled, "Views of America Series by ENCO, 22 K. Gold", indicating that this piece was made by Enco using 22 karat gold for the leaf design on the topside and the manufacturer marking on the back. We do not know the age of this piece, it came out of a home, but believe it to be a vintage, antique or older item rather than new.

Round butter pat measuring about 3 3/8 inches in diameter with a lower center section and sitting 1/2 inch in height. We've provided four images including close-ups of the center transfer design and manufacturer marking. Please note that the white hot spots are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy surface. Very nice usuable overall condition but not mint. There are no chips, cracks or crazing, but there are multiple small scratches in the center graphic area. You don't notice these from a distance but close-up you can see them and that they do scratch through the graphic. There is some wear to the gold leaf design and the lettering (not bad but you can see close-up) and minor pin dots/transfer dots made in manufacture. This piece was used, perhaps in a restaurant as restaurant ware or in a home, but still has a great look.

Nice addition to any collection of national park memorabilia or souvenir items particularly relating to Yellowstone in the state of Wyoming. Would also make a great addition to a general butter pat collection.

Click for more detail...
1322

Souvenir China Old Germany Waterfalls Creamer Pitcher of Niagra Falls, New York Lovely small pitcher or creamer with a central multi-colored transfer graphic of a large waterfall with two boats near it. While it is not labelled to be a scenic souvenir china piece from Niagra Falls, that is what we believe this to be due to the size of the falls shown (which look like the American side or American Falls of Niagra Falls in New York State), the two boats in front of the falls (like the boats which tour near Niagra Falls such as the Maid of the Mist), and the "Made in Germany" marking on the underside base. Many old souvenir pieces from places like Niagra Falls had this kind of marking and were imported from European manufacturers. Surrounding the central waterfall graphic is an ornate design in gold paint, with this also repeated near the top rim, with a gold design on the backside and gold line trim on the top rim and at the topside of the handle. We do not know the age of this piece, but from the Made in Germany marking and piece style, we are guessing it dates back to the 1920s-1940s period pre-World War II.

Measures about 3 1/4 inches in height, 3 1/2 inches in width and 2 1/4 inches in depth or the diameter of the round base. The base material for this piece is a white china or porcelain (this piece is translucent). We've provided 6 images including close-ups of the graphic and the country of origin marking. Please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflections from the camera on the glossy surface, and that this lighting "blands out" the piece a bit...the coloring looks richer, darker, more attractive in person than in the images. There is also an impressed number 3 on the underside base.

Wonderful overall condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. There are minor age/wear flaws so this piece is not mint, but nothing major that detracts from its great appearance. There is some wear to the gold line trim and design areas (nothing really bad, but it is there), pin/pit/dark dots/transfer dots made in manufacture, some slight surface scratches (nothing bad here), a stray curved blue line under the front graphic area (this could be pen ink that might be removable we don't know, but are selling this as is/as found), a small circular brown spot on the interior base with a few other dark tiny dots (otherwide the inside is clean, this doesn't look like it was used for serving anything), other slight general age/wear, a little bit of wear to the underside base rim on which the piece sits (which supports age).

A neat piece to add to a collection of souvenir pieces or memorabilia related to Niagra Falls, NY or waterfalls in general. Also a nice piece to add to any collection relating to waterfalls of any type or a small general creamer collection. Please note that we are also concurrently adding another marked Niagra Falls souvenir piece, a Hazel Atlas souvenir glass mug; please see our other listings. We would be pleased to combine shipping to save you on postage costs.

Click for more detail...
1075

Imperial Salem China First Edition Boston Service Plates A These are three lovely identical plates, sold separately, made by Imperial Salem China in possibly the 1940s-50s. Marked on the backside "Boston 'Hub of the Universe' Birthplace of American Liberty (First Edition), with the Imperial Salem China Co. Service Plates logo and "Made in U.S.A., 23 Karat Gold".

Round, measuring 10 7/8 inches in diameter and sitting 5/8 inch in height, they have a white/ivory background color with brown, green & gold line drawings of famous landmarks (buildings & monuments) in Boston, Massachusetts (MA, Ma., Mass.), with surrounding decorative elements. The large center graphic is of Faneuil Hall, with other pictures around the outer edge of the Bunker Hill monument (shown 3 times, as kind of a divider between other pictures, alternating with a floral divider), the Old State House, Dunster House at Harvard University, the (newer) State House, the Paul Revere Home, Old North Church and Kings Chapel. We've shown some of these in the various images. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting.

All plates are in very nice condition, no chips, cracks or crazing. They are not mint, however, and show expected signs of wear or age as they were used, nothing really bad that hinders their great look, but you should know this is there. This varies by plate and includes some top surface scratches, some wear to the graphics, and on the underside many small scratches from sitting over the years. There are also some pin/pit/dark/transfer dots from the manufacturing process. One plate has some small dark lines on the top surface in the white portion, posssibly from silverware use.

The 3 plates in this listing are judged to be in a bit better shape than the two in the other similar listing (B), resulting in the slightly higher price. Specific details by plate can be provided. Each would make a great addition to any collection of souvenir china from Boston or Massachusetts in general, or a nice gift for anyone collecting materials related to any of the famous buildings shown.

Click for more detail...
1226

1953 Homer Laughlin China Eggshell Nautilus Souvenir Plate, Half Dome, Yosemite National Park, California A neat vintage plate which we believe was a souvenir china item as it has a central labelled picture of Half Dome at Yosemite National Park in California (although it is not labelled on the underside as a souvenir). Made by Homer Laughlin in their Eggshell Nautilus pattern and marked on the underside with the "HLC" Homer Laughlin insignia plus "Eggshell Nautilus" followed by a half shell and then "U.S.A. L 53 N 5". The "L 53" indicates that this plate was produced in December 1953, with the "N 5" indicating the plant where it was made (but we don't know which that was).

Round dinner plate size, flaring slightly upwards to sit about 3/4 inch in height and measuring about 9 7/8 inches in diameter. Ivory colored base china (this plate is ceramic or pottery, not porcelain, as it is not translucent), with a central decor of the famous Half Dome mountain surrounded by forest done in gray, brown, blue and greens, with the "Half Dome, Yosemite National Park, California" written in light gray script underneath. Surrounding this is an ornate scroll, curves and point design in gold followed by a pale green band and finished in a gold line outer edge trim. We've provided 5 images including close-ups of the central design, words and manufacturer marking. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface.

Very nice overall condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing, but there are some flaws. There is some paint wear to the outer gold line edge trim, not very bad and mainly on the outmost edge. On the central graphic in a number of spots on the green trees it looks as if the transfer design was incompletely done as there are small white spots, varying in size. At first we didn't notice these and someone could miss them thinking they are sky or background showing through the trees, but on close inspection we can see that these are definitely incomplete transfer spots where the design missed or "bunched" in these areas. The plate feels smooth over these spots so we believe these are manufacturing irregularities that were later covered over by the final glazing layer (as opposed to damage done to the plate later). There are some minor scratches (visible only in bright light when held at an angle, nothing bad) on the top and bottom sides, stray transfer dots, and some flaking/wear to the underside base rim on which the plate sits, as expected given the age.

A nice older piece which would make a great addition to a collection of souvenir china or a general collection relating to national parks or Yosemite park in specific.

1323

Souvenir Piece Hazel Atlas Glass Mug from Niagra Falls, New York with Bottoms Up! Nifty and fun antique souvenir item, mug from Niagra Falls that could have come from either the U.S. side (American Falls, New York State side) or Canadian side (Horseshoe Falls) since both are depicted on one side of the mug with the embossed words, "Souvenir of Niagra Falls". What makes this particularly fun and humorous is the graphic embossed on the other side of the mug...a cartoon character type or comic sketch type guy who apparently was going over one of the falls at Niagra Falls in a barrel and must have "popped out" or been thrown out of the barrel as that is how he is shown with the words underneath, "Bottoms Up!". This vintage piece is a glass mug in the white type used during the 1920s-1950s period and was made by Hazel Atlas Glass Company as it has their raised "HA" on the underside base. We don't know exactly when this old piece would have been made.

The mug uses a standard bright red for the waterfalls graphic on each side, along with the barrel and man, with a nice royal blue type coloring for the words on both sides. The mug is a basic small rounded shape with straight sides, having a rectangular handle that slopes upward slightly. The piece sits 3 inches in height, with a top round diameter of 2 3/4 inches, and a greatest width to the outside of the handle of about 3 3/4 inches. We have provided 5 images including a close-up of the "HA" manufacturer marking which looks dark due to how we had to shoot it in order to have it be readable (as you can see in the image of the bottom of the mug it is not dark in reality). Please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflections from the camera on the glossy surface, and that this lighting "blands out" the piece a bit, making the reds and blues appear fainter than they are in person...the coloring looks rich, dark, and more attractive in person than in the images. Given that this mug weighs 8 ounces unpacked and to provide proper protection enroute, this item will ship in the U.S. via U.S.P.S. Priority Mail.

This mug is in wonderful shape with no chips, cracks or crazing. The embossed colored areas are strongly there, with just a little bit of wear to the right outstretched wrist/arm on the man, and one tiny oval spot on one of the falls areas which either was incompletely embossed in manufacture (which is what it looks like to us) or is a spot worn away. There are some tiny surface scratches and one small scratched spot on the white area of the mug but nothing bad. There are in-manufacture straw lines, dots, etc. in the glass. There is other light wear/age wear on the piece but nothing to worry about here at all...a terrific piece.

A neat piece to add to a collection of souvenir pieces or memorabilia related to Niagra Falls, NY or Canada. Also a nice piece to add to any collection relating to waterfalls of any type or a general funny mug collection. Would make a great gift for anyone with a sense of humor or someone who collects historical pieces relative to Niagra Falls and going over the falls in a barrel, which some people have done. Please note that we are also concurrently listing another unmarked Niagra Falls souvenir piece, an old creamer made in Germany; please see our listings under Souvenir China. We would be pleased to combine shipping to save you on postage costs.

Click for more detail...
1332

Occupied Japan Souvenir China Miami, Florida Plate with Flamingos This is a nifty antique souvenir china piece which is also an occupied japan collectible piece. A small plate with a central hand painted design of pink flamingos, marked on the front side as "Souvenir of Miami, Florida" and on the backside with "Made in Occupied Japan" (a bit of the "O" and "D" in "Occupied" are missing as shown in the image but this is clearly what it says). The hand painted artwork shows three adult flamingo birds with one feeding a baby pink flamingo (a flamingo pup?), as well as palm trees, rocks and water. The plate is reticulated or has open cutwork near the outer edge providing a circular border of open rectangular shapes. The outer edge is scalloped with a gold design and an inner gold line trim around the central painted area.

A small round plate, dessert plate size with a diameter of 7 1/8 inches and sitting 3/4 inch in height. With the occupied japan marking we know this plate was made between 1945 and 1952, the years of the American occupation of Japan following World War II, although we do not know the exact year of manufacture nor the name of the Japanese company who made this. We've provided 6 images including close-ups of the central hand painting, the souvenir designation, the occupied japan signature on the backside and one of the reticulation. Please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflection from the camera on the glossy surfaces. Also, the image of the full front side of the plate was not shot "head on" since that created a lighting reflection in the center of the plate, so this image looks somewhat "shortened" or narrower than the plate is in person. The lighting also dampens the intensity of the painted coloring a bit...the plate colors look richer and more beautiful in person than in the images.

Wonderful overall condition, with no chips or cracks or crazing and all reticulated openings in great shape, but not mint...the piece does show some slight wear and age, but this doesn't detract from the terrific look. There is gold wear to both the inner line and the outer edging decoration which you can see a bit of in the close-up images. While definitely there is wear, the gold is still very largely there on the plate, and we don't feel this detracts, but you will see the wear in person. The central hand painted area, however, is in excellent shape. There is a touch of orange in the blue sky in one spot, perhaps this is paint transfer from the rock area or perhaps this is a bit of wear/staining on the plate, we don't know. There is also some darkening/age wear on the underside rim on which the piece sits.

A great vintage piece to add to any collection of Florida souvenirs or Florida souvenir china or Florida memorabilia, particularly relating to the city of Miami or items having flamingos on them. Also a nice addition for anyone collecting old things relating to flamingoes in particular, or collecting Occupied Japan items overall.

1076

Imperial Salem China First Edition Boston Service Plates B These are two lovely identical plates, sold separately, made by Imperial Salem China in possibly the 1940s-50s.

We've shown some of these in the various images. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting.

Both plates are in very nice condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing. They are not mint, however, and are being listed separately from the 3 plates in our "A" listing because these each have noticeable scratches in the center graphic of Faneuil Hall (some people might not notice them immediately, but to us they are clearly visible). They still have a great overall look and are very usuable, but are priced less to reflect the wear. As with the other plates, they also show expected signs of wear or age relative to some wear to the graphics (one of these has some fading on the words "Boston, Mass." on the top side), and on the underside many small scratches from sitting over the years. There are also some pin/pit/dark/transfer dots from the manufacturing process.

Specific details by plate can be provided. The images shown are the same for the "A" listing, but images of specific plates here can be forwarded. Please e-mail us by clicking on the question button. Each plate would still make a great addition to any collection of souvenir china from Boston or Massachusetts in general, or a nice gift for anyone collecting materials related to any of the famous buildings shown.

23524

Royal Winton Pitcher: Fundy National Park, Canada Neat souvenir or commemorative ceramic or pottery pitcher made by Royal Winton, with view from Fundy National Park, Canada shown on one side (the back side is blank white). Measures about 4 inches tall, 5 inches wide from tip of spout to outer edge of handle, with top opening 3 1/2 inches wide and bottom round base 3 inches in diameter. Has gold line trim on top rim, around base and on handle. Marked on underside base 'Royal Winton, Grimwades, Made in England, A' with also the impressed word 'Globe'. Excellent condition, clean inside & out, no chips, cracks, crazing. There is a touch of wear to the gold trim in spots (minor, not bad), a touch of irregularity to the rim in one spot (not chipped, you can just feel a tiny bit of roughness rather than smoothness), some occassional dark pin or pit dots, and some expected wear to the underside base on which the piece sits. A nice piece. We've shown 5 images including a close-up of the color transfer decoration from the park (please note the white 'hot spots' are lighting reflection from the camera).
