1232

Bakelite Handle Meat Lifter or Poultry Lifter A neat bakelite handle kitchen utensil or tool or kitchen collectible which we believe is a meat lifter or a poultry lifter. This has two prongs widely spaced apart (about 2 1/4 inches between the prongs) which we think you inserted firmly into the cooked roast or poultry to aid in lifting it out of the cooking pan. While this could also be used to steady the meat, chicken or turkey while you were carving, like a carving fork, most carving forks we've seen have longer handles and the tines are no so widely spaced apart, leaving us to believe this is instead a lifting tool.

Measures about 8 1/2 inches in length, about 2 3/4 inches greatest width and about 7/8 inch in depth to the handle. The prongs are metal, likely stainless steel (although we don't know that for sure), with a nicely turned, smooth bakelite handle which curves upward slightly to fit well in your hand. Coloring to the bakelite is a marbled amber or butterscotch with brown, very pretty.

This piece has a terrific overall look and is in very nice, very usable condition, but not mint. The handle has expected use wear on close inspection, via tiny scratches, rubbed/worn spots, dings, and other wear evidence...nothing really bad and nothing that jumps out at you on display (no big chips, cracks, etc.) but you'll definitely see the wear evidence if you look. Metal prongs show similar evidence of wear/use with tiny scratches, etc....all nothing out of the ordinary for used pieces.

A nifty addition to any bakelite kitchen utensil or bakelite handle kitchen tool collection, or general grouping of bakelite collectibles or bakelite kitchen collectibles.

1204

Vintage 1940's/1950's Bakelite Marbled Handle Corkscrew This is a bakelite handle corkscrew, definitely a vintage piece, likely made in the 1940's or 1950's. The color of the bakelite on this corkscrew is a marbled brown and amber, with the handle angled (not level straight across) and narrower at one end than the other, and with a flattened section at one end which we think was done to make it more comfortably fit in your hand. It measures 5 1/16 inches in length from the outside top of the handle to the bottom tip of the spiral at the base, with the handle measuring about 3 9/16 inches in length and about 14/16 inch in width at its widest point. There is no manufacturer marking. We've provided 5 images to try and show from all sides, with a close-up of the handle itself. It is the neat marbled look to the handle which makes this piece striking, with the marbling differing on all sides, some of it more muted and some more contrasting. Please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflection from the camera on the glossy surfaces.

Very nice condition for a piece that was used as intended. There is much expected use wear to the handle and to the metal stem...this piece is not "mint". The handle has no large chips, cracks, breaks, pieces missing, etc. But it does have wear via many little scratches, rubbed marks/areas, scraped dot and line areas, tiny white dots from scrapes, etc...a general used "look" as to be expected for a piece that has been worked with effort to open bottles. There is an as molded/as manufactured central indented circle in the middle of the narrower end of the handle. The metal portion also shows expected use wear including a discolored spot near the handle, many tiny scratches, scraping, a few tiny indented lines, etc. Also the bottom tip of the screw portion, while still sharp and usuable, has a bit of the metal chipped off on the side. None of this is bad and to us it all adds to the great antique used look of this old piece.

A nifty addition to any cork screw collection or a collection of bakelite kitchen utensils or items.

1205

Vintage 1940's/1950's Bakelite Handle Corkscrew with Wood or Bone Look This is a bakelite handle corkscrew, definitely a vintage piece, likely made in the 1940's or 1950's. The handle was made to look in the fashion of carved or whittled wood or bone with the bakelite "butterscotch" or amber color showing at the two ends and the center molded and painted black. The handle is slightly angled (not level straight across) and cone-shaped or narrower at one end than the other, as a natural piece of wood or bone might be. The cork screw measures about 5 inches in length from the outside top of the handle to the bottom tip of the spiral at the base, with the handle measuring about 3 5/8 inches in length and about 7/8 inch in width at its widest point. There is no manufacturer marking. You can see the round head of the nail used to hold the handle onto the metal piece visible on one side. We've provided 5 images to try and show from all sides, with a close-up of the handle itself.

But it does have much wear via many little scratches, rubbed marks/areas, scraped dot and line areas, tiny rim flakes on the handle ends, tiny white dots from scrapes, blackened areas on the ends, etc...a general used "look" as to be expected for a piece that has been worked with effort to open bottles. The metal portion also shows expected use wear including many tiny scratches, scraping, several tiny indented lines/spots, pitting/many pin & pit dots, black dots, etc. There is a touch of rust on the nail head holding the handle to the stem, and on the stem near the handle. Also the bottom tip of the screw portion, while still sharp and usuable, has a bit of the metal chipped off at the tip. None of this is bad and to us it all adds to the great antique used look of this old piece.

A nifty addition to any cork screw collection or a collection of bakelite kitchen utensils or items.

Click for more detail...
1236

Bakelite Handle Brown Mottled Cheese Slicer and Server A nice bakelite handle piece that both slices the cheese and serves it at the same time, with a mottled brown or multi-color brown handle. As made, the handle angles upwards from the metal cheese slicer part for easier shaving or slicing of the cheese and is "flattened out" on the underside to sit comfortably on a serving plate. Measures about 8 3/4 inches in length, 3 1/8 inches in greatest width (width of the metal slicing part), and about 5/8 inch in depth to the handle. Good looking overall and very usable used condition, but not mint. No major chips, cracks, or crazing, but expected wear, use and age flaws including many scratches, scuffed marks/rubbed areas to handle, and other general use/wear to handle, and some scratches, scuffed/rubbed areas and some wear spots/dots on metal portion. There is a little bit of tiny denting to the outer edge of the metal piece and some spotting on the metal where it curves into the handle. Definitely a used piece but it still has that great bakelite look, with all this adding to the believability of 1950's age. A nifty addition to any bakelite kitchen utensil or bakelite handle kitchen tool collection, or general grouping of bakelite collectibles or bakelite kitchen collectibles.

Bakelite Amber & Multi-Brown Handle Bottle Opener with Can Piercer (A) A nifty bakelite handle piece, a bottle opener with a can piercer top (can opener). Handle has a free-form mixture of multiple brown and amber colors. Measures about 7 1/2 inches in length, 2 inches greatest width, 1/2 inch greatest depth to handle, with can piercer sticking up 1 3/8 inches. On one side of the base metal portion is imprinted the words "PAT. PENDING". Wonderful used condition with no chips, cracks, etc. Has expected wear to handle with many/all over tiny scratches, rubbed spots, etc. -- this piece has not sat on a shelf! Metal portion also shows expected minor wear. But still a very usable piece and a great addition to any bakelite kitchen utensil or bakelite handle kitchen tool collection, or general grouping of bakelite collectibles or bakelite kitchen collectibles.

Bakelite Amber & Brown Handle Bottle Opener with Can Piercer (B) A nifty bakelite handle piece, a bottle opener with a can piercer top (can opener). Handle is a combination amber color with brown free-form vertical coloring mixed in. Measures about 7 1/2 inches in length, 2 inches greatest width, 1/2 inch greatest depth to handle, with can piercer sticking up 1 3/8 inches. On one side of the base metal portion is imprinted the words "PAT. PENDING". Very nice used condition with no major chips, cracks, etc. Has expected wear to handle with many/all over tiny scratches, rubbed spots, wear dots & lines, etc. -- this piece has not sat on a shelf! Metal portion also shows wear including spotting, tarnishing, a few edge chips, a bit of surface peeling (some of this might shine off but we are leaving as is/as found). But still a very usable piece and a great addition to any bakelite kitchen utensil or bakelite handle kitchen tool collection, or general grouping of bakelite collectibles or bakelite kitchen collectibles.

1051

Bakelite Multi-Brown Handle Bottle Opener with Can Piercer (C) A nifty bakelite handle piece, a bottle opener with a can piercer top (can opener). The bakelite handle seems largely a deep brown, but actually has a delicate swirled multi-brown dimension, with amber near the end/tip. Measures about 7 7/8 inches in length, 2 1/8 inches greatest width, 11/16 inch greatest depth to handle, with a depth to the backside bottle rim lifters and topside narrow can piercer of about 1 inch. Wonderful used condition with no major chips, cracks, etc. Has expected wear to handle with many tiny scratches, dots, rubbed spots, etc. -- actually this piece does not have as much wear as some of the others listed, but there's definitely wear. Metal portion also shows expected wear with spotting, some peeled spots, scratches, rubbed areas, some rust to an interior back portion, etc.. But still a very usable piece and a great addition to any bakelite kitchen utensil or bakelite handle kitchen tool collection, or general grouping of bakelite collectibles or bakelite kitchen collectibles.

Click for more detail...
1233

Bakelite Green Handle Butter Knife A nice bakelite handle butter knife from a general flatware set with a rich green colored handle (not bright green nor olive green but a medium green color inbetween the two). This is a butter or general flatware knife; we do not have any other pieces from the set. The handle has a nice long triangular pattern molded into the bakelite with smooth edges to the raised ridges on both sides. Blade is likely stainless steel, but it is not marked so we don't know that for certain.

Measures 9 5/16 inches in length, about 3/4 inch in width at widest point for blade, 5/8 inch width at widest point for handle and 3/8 inch depth to handle. Overall nice, very usable condition but definitely not mint as this piece shows much evidence of use/general wear. On the handle there are no large chips, cracks, etc., but there are many scratches (some bigger than others and some appearing as whiteish lines), a few very tiny flakes/chips at the end of the handle, some dark dots, as well as other general wear/use evidence that you'll see when you inspect closely. Closer to the blade the handle has a center brownish look, particularly on one side where it looks like there is a horizontal small brownish line within the bakelite (we don't know what this is). The blade shows expected use wear via many scratches, some tiny dark dots, rubbed wear, etc. We don't know if this is how the knife was made but want to point out that, while fully attached, there is a very thin line of separation where the metal of the blade meets the bakelite handle...the metal is not "flush" against the bakelite but there is a small space between them (this ends up looking like a thin dark line between the two pieces).

Still a very usable piece if you are looking for another green bakelite handle butter knife for your bakelite flatware set.

1237

Bakelite Handle Brown Mottled Cheese Slicer with No Wire A bakelite handle cheese slicer that is missing its cutting wire (the holes for the wire are here so a handy person could easily string their own wire through the piece to make it fully workable). This piece has a nicely curved handle in the mottled dark brown color. Measures about 7 1/2 inches in length, 3 1/8 inches greatest width across the metal cutting bar area and a depth to the handle of 3/4 inch. Good looking overall and very usable used condition, but definitely not mint. No major chips, cracks, or crazing, but much expected wear, use and age flaws including many noticeable scratches, scuffed marks/rubbed areas/spotting to handle, and other general use/wear to handle. The metal portion has a good bit of surface wear including scratches, scuffed/rubbed areas, wear spots/dots and tiny dots where there is flaking of the top metal surface. Definitely a used piece but it still has a nice bakelite look, with all this adding to the believability of 1950's age. A good addition to any bakelite kitchen utensil or bakelite handle kitchen tool collection, or general grouping of bakelite collectibles or bakelite kitchen collectibles.

Click for more detail...
1054

Bakelite Brown & Black Handle Pie Server This is an old bakelite handle piece, a narrow pie server with a brown handle with some black to it. On the metal portion on one side is impressed, "STA-BRITE, STAINLESS STEEL". Measures about 9 1/8 inches in length, 1 1/2 inches greatest width (stainless blade portion), 3/8 inch greatest depth to handle. This piece has seen a lot of use. The bakelite handle has a matte finish, not the shiny finish we're used to. It was either made that way or this is due to the much wear, including many tiny scratches, dots, rubbed spots, etc., throughout. Metal portion also shows expected wear with many scratches, rubbed areas, spotting, etc. The metal piece connecting the handle to the blade is tarnished to a deep gray color. Still no major chips, cracks, breaks, etc. The metal blade portion may be slightly bent downward, or this may be how the piece was made, we're not sure. It could be easily used and enjoyed, or become an old addition to any bakelite kitchen utensil or bakelite handle kitchen tool collection, or general grouping of bakelite collectibles or bakelite kitchen collectibles.

Click for more detail...
1238

Bakelite Handle Brown Small Cheese Server A small bakelite handle cheese server, similar in shape to the pie server but smaller. Measures about 6 5/8 inches in length, 1 7/16 inches greatest width across the metal and a depth to the handle of 3/8 inch. On one side at the base of the metal serving section is stamped the word, "Stainless". This piece does not have any chips, cracks or crazing but does show its age. On the handle there are very visible scratches which you can see some of in our close-up picture. The handle has much expected other wear, use and age flaws including lots of scuffed marks/rubbed areas/spotting and other general use/wear, including the bakelite looking worn at the lower side edge ends of the handle. The metal portion also shows surface wear including scratches, scuffed/rubbed areas, and a little bit of tiny edge chipping. Where the metal serving piece meets the metal knob in the handle on both sides, and surrounding where this knob meets the bakelite, there is a line of some bumpy dark/black substance which may be the old putty or whatever is holding these pieces into each other. Definitely an older used piece but in a not often seen smaller size, with the wear adding to the believability of 1940s/50's age. A good addition to any bakelite kitchen utensil or bakelite handle kitchen tool collection, or general grouping of bakelite collectibles or bakelite kitchen collectibles.
