Old Brass Police Button, City of Camden, New Jersey
Nifty antique button that appears to be from a police uniform of the Camden Police in Camden, New Jersey (NJ). Looks to us to be old tarnished brass, a magnet will not stick to it, but we don't know it is brass for sure. From the tarnished extra metal plate behind the button (between the regular button back and its ring) we do believe it to be original and vintage, but can't guarantee that as we are not familiar with these things.
We've shown three images, one including a quarter for size comparison (please note that the white "hot spots" are reflection from the camera lighting). Round, it measures about 1 inch in diameter. The front side of the button has raised lettering and design, stating "Camden N. J. Police" in a circle, with an interior design of a seal with figures. There is a thin, raised line design to the outer circle behind the words. On the back of the button under the extra metal/tin plate are the impressed words "Extra Quality" in a circle (you can't see this in the images, but it is there). The "eye" portion on the back is clearly bent to one side (not standing straight up), and what appears to be another tarnished metal ring is sitting through it.
Appears to be in excellent old condition. We are guessing it was used as there appears to be tarnish throughout, and it has the expected aged/weathered look -- nothing bad, what one expects for an old piece, which we believe adds to its believeability and neat look. Does not appear to have any dents, breaks, cracks or major problems.
A nifty find for a collector of police memorabilia or police collectibles, police buttons, officer or official memorabilia, historical New Jersey or Camden related items, etc.
