Liberty Blue China Independence Hall Dinner Plates, England Staffordshire Ironstone Lovely Liberty Blue China Dinner Plates, sold individually. Each measures about 10 inches in diameter and sits about 1 inch in height. Basically round with 12 flatened sides to rim. While there are some very slight color differences among the plates as is often seen with manufactured items, all are basically a medium dark blue coloring on a base white china which is ironstone.

These were produced as part of a set of china showing different colonial scenes at the center of the various pieces, surrounded by a floral graphic. The dinner plates are all identical, showing Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with the location identified on the backside of most of the plates (perhaps this didn't transfer on a few of them; on one plate instead of Independence Hall most of the word "Church" shows which must be an error in transfering as Old North Church appears on a different piece in the set). From a bit of research, we believe these were made in the 1970's to commemorate the bicentennial, and may have been given away by A&P Grocery Stores. Some sites reference that this pattern was produced by Enoch Wedgwood, but the pieces are not marked with this so we don't know that for certain.

All marked on reverse side with "Liberty Blue, Original Copper Engravings of Historic Colonial Scenes Printed on Staffordshire Ironstone, Detergent and Dishwasher Safe, Made in England, Independence Hall" within an eagle insignia. We have provided 6 images showing close-ups and the marking on the reverse side. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy surface. The lighting also lightens the blue coloring a bit. In person it is a true medium blue tending towards a navy blue coloring, although the coloring does go lighter and darker within the graphic on the piece.

All plates are in wonderful overall condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing. While purchased from a home where they had been used by the owner's former relative, the use flaws are minimal and do not detract from their great look. There are some topside surface scratches (these vary by plate, overall nothing bad or unusual, and only seen when looked at closely at an angle in bright light) and stray blue transfer dots. On the backsides, while this varies by piece, there is also some stray blue from the transfer process, some have some light brown or orange dot, line or spot stains (but none of this on the topsides), pin/pit manufacturing dots, slight glazing flaws, and some slight expected wear to the underside base rims on which they sit.

Very attractive and very usable pieces to add to your current set or start a new one. Please see our other listings for other pieces of this pattern. Could also be hung on a wall or displayed in a cabinet as part of a colonial decorative motif.

1338

Liberty Blue China Old North Church Teacup Saucers Only Lovely Liberty Blue China Teacup Saucers, sold individually. We have only these saucers, not the tea cups which would have been placed on them. Each saucer measures about 5 11/16 inches in diameter and sits about 3/4 inch in height. Basically round with just a little flatening to the side rims to simulate the 12 sided nature of the other pieces (see other Liberty Blue listings). While there are some very slight color differences among the saucers as is often seen with manufactured items, all are basically a medium dark blue coloring on a base white china which is ironstone. Please note that other pieces in this pattern/set are labelled on the backsides as Staffordshire Ironstone. These pieces do not have that labeling (likely due to their smaller size and corresponding smaller backside surface area) but are presumed made of the same ironstone as the other items in this pattern.

These were produced as part of a set of china showing different colonial scenes at the center of the various pieces, surrounded by a floral graphic. The saucers are all identical, showing the Old North Church in Boston, Massachusetts, with the church identified on the backside of all of the saucers. From a bit of research, we believe these were made in the 1970's to commemorate the bicentennial, and may have been given away by A&P Grocery Stores. Some sites reference that this pattern was produced by Enoch Wedgwood, but the pieces are not marked with this so we don't know that for certain.

All marked on reverse side with "Liberty Blue, Historic Colonial Scenes, Old North Church, Made in England" within an eagle insignia.

All saucers are in wonderful overall condition, with no major chips or cracks. Most of the saucers also have no crazing; one saucer is crazed with large line crazing. While purchased from a home where they had been used by the owner's former relative, the use flaws are minimal and do not detract from their great look. There are some topside slight surface scratches (the amount varies by saucer with some having no/almost no scratches, overall nothing bad or unusual, and only seen when looked at closely at an angle in bright light). There are stray blue transfer dots on the topside and in some cases, stray blue transfer lines, as well as some raised pottery dots, pin and pit dots. On the backsides, while this varies by piece, there is also some stray blue dots from the transfer process, pin/pit manufacturing dots, surface scratches, slight glazing flaws, and some slight expected wear to the underside base rims on which they sit. Two saucers have a bit of light brown or orange spot or line stains (but none of this on the topside).

Very attractive and very usable pieces to add to your current set or start a new one. Please see our other listings for other pieces of this pattern. Could also be hung on a wall or displayed in a cabinet as part of a colonial decorative motif.
