Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this tumbler shaped vase measures 6 1/4 inches tall and is 3 1/2 inches across at top.
It is from Ballard's middle period of ware which is identified by the characteristic band of chocolate brown underglaze at the very bottom of the piece. Also, there is no shape number just the incised S. Ballard Vermont signature. The glaze is mottled, heavily at the rim, another early characteristic. In excellent condition. |
