Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this wild and wonderful example of Ballard's work screams late 50s and early 60s. It is one of his heaviest pieces in my collection. It has a wild geometric shape which Royal Haeger was also making popular in their line at that time. It measures 8 inches long on the one straight side and 11 inches across from rounded tip to pointed tip. Wild!!
The white glaze with brown underglaze rim is very simple yet elegant. There is even the original price written in pencil on the bottom of the piece: $3. It would look stunning on a blue glass Deco coffee table or a Mid-Century Eames era piece. It is in excellent condition. |
