A Time Remembered

Circa: 1897
Condition: Used
Manufacturer: Adele Anias Toudouze/La Mode Illustree/Paris
This vintage La Mode Illustree print, Leroy, imp. Paris, by Adele-Anias Toudouze was framed by Julias G. Haas, Est.1897, 839 Madison Avenue, New York. Adele-Anais Toudouze (Paris, 1822-1899) was one of the major artists for La Mode. She belonged to a most talented family of artists and engravers. Other family members who produced fashion plates and fine art included her mother, Alexandre-Marie Colin (1798-1873) and her daughter, Isabelle Toudouze (1872-1925). In 1845 Adele-Anais married the painter and architect, Gabriel-Auguste Toudouze. From 1860 to 1872 La Mode created some of the finest fashion plates of the era. Its engravings were larger, more detailed and much more artistically hand-colored than any of its competitors in England, France or America. By 1872, however, the high cost of publishing these original works of art, were too prohibitive, and La Mode was forced to relinquish the field to its cheaper rivals.
Printed on mid nineteenth century woven paper this hand colored print does show spotting from age which I have shown in my pictures and it measures 12 inches high and 8 3/4 inches wide.
An addition to any vintage La Mode Illustree Collection.
SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions please contact me and thank you for looking.
