Circa: 1800's
Manufacturer: Clark & Sewell Ltd.
Beautiful antique English transferware biscuit Jar. Both the lid and rim of jar rim have incised mark: EPNS, England, and it looks like 2 marks then C & S Ltd. The C&S Ltd is visible, the lst 2 marks are hard to discern. There was a Clark & Sewell Ltd, Sheffield, England so I assume they made this jar. Bottom has red Crown and B2841. No chips or cracks; has some crazing, more prominent on the bottom. It is earthenware with transferware flower design that look like Daffodils. This jar has some tiny dark spots here and there on the body of jar; those are under the glaze, might be hot ash marks from when it was fired. It is 7 inches tall up to finial. A very attractive jar despite the minor age flaws. 11/14
