Exceptional 1904 Vintage Rare Art Nouveau Era R.f.outcault Auto Girl Print
Vintage Art Nouveau Original Pen and Ink sketch drawn by artist/illustrator R.F. Outcault in 1904. Taken from a 1904 issue of the Burr-McIntosh Monthly- an exceptionally crafted art nouveau Era magazine featuring illustrators, painters and leading photographers of the day- this is a wonderful image which pokes gentle fun at the foibles of motoring when it was still a relative novelty. Lovely yet lively image of a pretty young miss, gleefully steering her car with cap flying and hair coming undone. There is a ditty underneath her which says; Lamps in front and lamps beside, Some are seen and some will hide, Some are green but those of red, Say Clear the road or you'll be dead Where's the man who wouldn't stand, In the mud or on the sand, Till ground up in pieces fine, Gazing in those lamps of thine? R.F. Outcault is arguably one of the finest humorous illustrators of the Art Nouveau Era and most certainly cemented his place in American Pop Culture history by creating the infamous Yellow Kid, giving birth to the modern comic strip and creating the charming advertising icon, Buster Brown and his faithful pup Tige. This original pen and ink sketch is relatively rare, created just at the time when his career gained momentum by the creation of Buster Brown. Taken from a 1904 Burr-McIntosh the condition is crisp and white- three holes at the side are where the ribbon for the publication was wound in 1904. Exceptional image you will not run across again- probably only printed in the pages of the magazine. A fantastic gift for the collector of the unusual, motor related items, pretty-girl art or comics in general. Measures 7 x 12. All items at A Fine Madness Collectibles are Guaranteed Original Vintage, Antique Ads, Prints, Artwork, Postcards, Hollywood and Paper Ephemera- never reproductions or copies. 1904 Delightful Art Nouveau Ad- Dashing Couple Take Idyllic Romantic Ride In Blohmstrom Motor Boat -
1904 Delightful Vintage Art Nouveau Ad- Romantic Couple Take Idyllic Ride in Blohmstrom Motor Boat- Fabulous Flying Fish Detail. Scenic and Dreamy Original Black and White Vintage Art Nouveau Ad taken from a early 1904 issue of McClure's Magazine. Perfect example of the flights of fancy that artists were capable of achieving during the halcyon days of the Art Nouveau Era. Dashing young couple are seen in two vignettes; at the top they formally glide through a waterside scene the gent far too busy rowing his craft to pitch any woo- at the bottom the same couple clinch closely enjoying each others unchaperoned company thanks in large part to the new, quiet, easily run Motor Boat crafted by the C.H. Blohmstrom company of Detroit. While done in simple black and white, there is a graceful dignity to the imagery which also features wonderfully drawn undulating waves filled with contented flying fish. Interesting that as early as 1904 manufactures were equating speed and modernity with subtle innuendos of romance always appealing to the consumer! 1908 Exceptionally Rare Art Nouveau Ad- Divine Dancer In Pink Prefers Salome Silk Pongee And Shantung Gorgeous Pal Artwork
1908 Exceptionally Rare Vintage Art Nouveau Ad- Sensuous Dancing Siren in Pink prefers R & T Silks Pongee and Shantung Fabrics Gorgeous Pal Artwork. Absolutely Fantastic Original Rare Vintage Art Nouveau Ad taken from the back pages of a 1908 Burr- McIntosh Monthly Magazine. This image has a lot to offer despite some flaws. Done by the deliciously daring and sophisticated French illustrator Pal, it is the epitome of early exotic pin-up style art. Pal's work was often done with color humor sensuality and a touch of whimsicality- frequently seen in large format posters on the streets of his native Paris- and still highly sought after a century later. This wonderful image was created for the R & T Silks Company, meant to promote the new line of Arabic and Oriental inspired fabrics for the year 1908- a year in which the exotic allure of far-off Asia and Arabia were in high-demand due in large part to the popularity of Leon Bakst's daring costumes for the Ballet Russe. The image is done in richly bright warm shades of orange and pink with the background in contrasting dark green- note the bare feet covered in toe-rings and the sparkling emerald and gold of the jeweled girdle. Ad is rare, most likely only appearing in a limited number of magazines such as Burr-McIntosh Monthly. I feel that the image far outweighs the condition in this instance- edges are rough and there is a large corner piece missing with some browning around the area that is now missing. Forget the flaws though and do concentrate on the absolute allure and beauty of this magnificent rare century old image. Ad is done on heavy stock paper- which also adds to it's luster- measures 8 x 11- simply a fabulous bit of Art Nouveau artistry by one of the most talented French illustrators of the period. Matted and framed properly it will be gorgeous on display with any decor. All items at A Fine Madness Collectibles are guaranteed original Vintage, Antique Ads, Prints, Artwork, Postcards, Hollywood and Paper Ephemera- never reproductions or copies. Sculpture of the Inuit is descended from the ancient craft of carving, honed for generations on the land. Most objects traditionally made were useful in very specific ways. A nomadic people could take little else with them besides the tools of their daily living. But a few small objects were carved. Such things as delicate earrings, dance masks, amulets, fetish figures, intricate combs and labrets are precious museum pieces today. True Purple Glass Necklace - Art Nouveau

Victorian Pin W Dragon Heads & Red Stone
These creatures are dainty - entire goldfilled pin measures a bit less that an inch across. Luckily they are trying to bite the small clear stones - the red one would be a mouthful. Antique 3-tiered Wood Wall Shelf
Nice little primitive type ANTIQUE wall shelf. Is made entirely out of woood - could be hard maple, poplar, elm, the back has aged to a slight reddish tint. Wood is a little rough in feel. Was stained a dark walnut color and you can just barely see the handpainted gold detailing that has faded over the years. This is old, so it has character. Nice piece to leave as is,(needs a little cleaning and T.L.C.), or can be refinished, which would make it a pretty update. We can see as a slight defect is the last,(or top) shelf, depending on how you hang it, has a little *split* approximately 2 inches in the wood that is missing a layer. A slight separation in the wood on the side, approximately 2 inches, needing to be reglued. Measures 15 inches high,(point to point) x 11-1/2 inches wide x approx. 4-1/2 inches deep. (Actual depth of shelf at largest point is 4 inches.) Thanks for visiting DOGWOOD TRAIL ANTIQUES! :O)

Victorian Sterling Bow Shaped Amethyst Pin
Quite the pin for a Victorian lady in a heavy coat or jacket or maybe in the hair. The wonderful pattern of silver suggests Art Nouveau and measures 3 inches by 1 across top. Bowed 3/4 inch out and set with a real amethyst (I think - it shows flaws unlike glass). Tube hinge, C clasp and pin is so long it bends up a bit at end to fit in clasp - makes it very secure. It has a strange knob on the back - to hold it secure? Beats me - see picture. Excellent condition. Old enough to have no marks.

Pricing considers this flaw.

Art Nouveau Pendant With Amethyst Stone
Art Nouveau from the word go, this showy pendant was found with a swivel chain, as if used as a fob - pretty fancy fob! I favor it as a pendant that measures 3 inches from top of bezel set amethyst colored stone to the lovely cut teardrop of the same color. It measures 1 1/4 across the wings, decorated with leaves and a vine that appear to hold the drop. Chain obviously isn't original but is an appropriate style - 25 inches of antique gold finish with a spring clasp. Back is interesting too - looks like it wanted to be a dress clip. Have you every seen anything like it?
