Resplendent And Rare 1930 Vintage Deco Erte 4-pg Illustrations For The Patience Of Griselda Fabulous
Resplendent and Rare 1930 Vintage Deco Erte 4-pg Illustrations for The Patience of Griselda Fabulous! Fantastic Find! 1930 Rare Vintage Deco Erte designed 4-pg magazine illustrations for John Erskine's The Patience of Griselda. Known far and wide for his artistry, extravagance and ability to convey a gorgeously splendid sense of style and chic- Erte was frequently featured in the pages of Harper's Bazaar Magazine by the Deco period- namely for fashions, illustration and cover art. This is a rare indeed series of images he created for Hearst's Cosmopolitan Magazine- and they are delightful. The images are back to back and facing page- two are done in vivid red tones with all his usual flair, imagination and artistry and two are done in somewhat weird but wonderful green shadings operatic in both scope and style somewhat sinister at that. This selection would be of inestimable value to the collector or lover of the works of Erte- and are rarely seen today. Each page measures 9 x 12- the initial pages would be fantastic on display. A unique resource for the correct person. Scans have made the shading look a little less bright and vivid than it actually is- feel free to ask questions prior to purchasing- happy indeed to answer them! All items at A Fine Madness Collectibles are guaranteed original Vintage, Antique Ads, Prints, Artwork, Postcards, Hollywood and Paper Ephemera- never reproductions or copies. 1959 Mischievious Vintage Mid-century R. Jones Post Magazine Illustration- Seductive Sea-side Siren Is Notorious Admitted Husba
1959 Mischievous Vintage Mid-Century R. Jones Magazine Illustration- Seductive Sea-Side Siren is Admittedly Notorious Husband Hunter! Simply Scandalous Original Vintage Mid-Century Ad taken from the pages of a April, 1960 issue of Saturday Evening Post Magazine. Done with great wit, humor flair and more than a little va-va-voom, this image is the epitome of magazine illustration for the period- bright splashes of color, a devious dame and a slightly suspicious yet dazzled gent. Artist R. Jones employs bold color palette, swirls of motion and interesting perspective to give the image flair and drama. Note the warm tones of orange in the gents shirt against the cooling hues of the sirens bathing suit and the almost cinematic sense of space light and perspective. The caption underneath reminds us of what the actual intent is as the Taylor-like siren states I was going over your qualifications in my mind. Beautiful if slightly lurid bit of Mid-Century magazine illustration- story is entitled, The Husband Hunter, still a high standard of quality in the periodicals. Image measures 11 x 15 condition is crisp clean and excellent. Colors of scan do not fully do justice to the dazzlingly vivid allure of the image. Will be 'swellegant on display with any decor and quite possibly spark some smart conversations amongst your own little circle at your next elegant soiree! Charming 1912 Vintage Belle Epoque Youth's Companion Cover Art- Field Farmers Gaze Skyward At Passing Aeroplane- Griswold Tyng A
Charming 1912 Original Vintage Belle Epoque Youth's Companion Cover Art- Field Farmers Gaze Skyward at Passing Aeroplane- Griswold Tyng Artwork. Simply Sensational and Rare Vintage Belle Epoque Cover Art done for the 1912 Vacation Number of The Youth's Companion Magazine. The Marvel of the Age and a sublime symbol of speed, daring and beauty was the very new modern advent of the Aeroplane. Artist Griswold Tyng lends a touch of romance to an ordinary bucolic country scene of farmers pausing to gaze skyward in the midst of haying to note the exciting unusual appearance of a passing aeroplane. Tyng's use of color, light and textures is gorgeously rendered- the sense of excitement is seen to perfection on each farmer's face- even the horses look stirred-up! The skies contain brilliant streaks of pink and orange- both shades reflected in the faces and garments of the youngest field workers. This is a wonderful example of the fervent thrills of early aviation and the unique artistry of magazine cover art at the height of it's beauty. Cover only measures 12 x 17- there is a fold in the center typical of larger sized magazine/newspapers of the time. Overall condition is bright and crisp- some slight tearing at the edges will not mar the exceptional charm of the imagery. Will be incredible on display with any decor. Simply Delightful Original Vintage Art Deco Christmas Magazine Illustration done for the December, 1926 issue of Pictorial Review Magazine. Artist R.F. Mother and father wait in the doorway enjoying the happy faces of their cute little girls both in patent mary janes and gleaming Sunday best white frocks. Sing A Song Of Sixpence Antique 1927 Mother Goose Book Illustration
Antique original 1927 book page illustrations from 'Mother Goose Rhymes and Nursery Tales', edited by Watty Piper. We believe the artist for these illustrations may have been Eulalie Osgood Grover since the pages have an on-page printed signature which says Eulalie , but we don't know this for certain (since the last name is not shown, but it seems likely to us). Published by The Platt straight down ) which gives the angular look in the images. Excellent condition with bright coloring, but please note that the page edges have been trimmed on many or all sides, and not always in a straight line. When looking at the reverse sides which are book copy/words, you can see that the illustrations were cut from the book (since some of the copy on the reverse side of the pages is missing). There is still sufficient border area on all sides to permit easy matting and framing in order to hang on a wall. There are 4 total pages available, each sold separately. Here we are listing Sing a Song of Sixpence . Terrific brightly colored image showing the King's surprise when he cuts into his pie and out fly many blackbirds. We particularly enjoy the disapproving look on the face of the King's servant who is standing behind him. The illustration is in very nice condition, suitable for framing, with some onpage wrinkling and some browning/light staining, but nothing bad at all. Make terrific gifts framed for children's rooms, play rooms, day care and nursery or school rooms, or for giving someone a print of an old rhyme which includes that person's name or something related to their occupation. Relative to shipping, please note: While this is a book page/print, this item CAN NOT be shipped via U.S.P.S. Media Mail per the post office. Please do not select this shipping option because we will have to contact you and change the shipping to something else, increasing your postage cost. The cheapest option for shipping this within the U.S. is via U.S.P.S. First Class Mail Parcel rate (not Parcel Post, that will be more expensive here). Also, if you are interested in more than one of the book page prints we have available for sale, please contact us before placing the order. The shipping information has been inputted for a purchase of just one and will not calculate the savings you would get when purchasing more than one shipped together in the same package (we will need to handle this for you).

1906 Charming Vintage Art Nouveau Howard Chandler Christy Scribner's Illustration Elegantly Attired Couple Attend Garden Party Fete. Simply Exquisite Original Vintage Art Nouveau Color Magazine Illustration done by Howard Chandler Christy for a 1906 issue of Scribner's Magazine. Wonderfully light, bright and elegantly romantic image created by Christy one of the leading pretty-girl artists of the Art Nouveau period. Artist Christy discovered a penchant for creating beautiful slightly cool yet approachable women in a variety of settings from contemporary to historical and rivaling the works of Gibson at a time when pretty-girl art was of paramount interest to a large viewing populace. This image was done for a short story in a spring, 1906 issue of Scribner's Magazine and is typical of his lovely sense of grandeur, romance and charm- a formal couple are having a walk-out at a garden party fete- note her slender figure with it's impossibly minuscule waistline and his stalwart stature- they are also mirrored in the background by a similar image of an older couple with intricate details such as the home in the background and the festive Chinese lanterns in gorgeous array of colors. 1913 Vintage Belle Epoque Divine Color Dance Dress Fashion Page with styles selected by Irene Castle M.E. Musselman illustrations. Beautiful Original Belle Epoque fashion page with designs selected by the arbiter of elegant taste, Mrs Vernon Castle. Part of the notable society dance team Mrs. Irene Castle, an original talent possessed of a superb sense of drama and style, helped to popularize dancing to such steps as the Tango, Hesitation, Two-step, Maxxie, Bunny Hug, Turkey Trot and created a mania for ballroom trotting. Here she helps to select a quartette of charming ensembles suitable to take the floor- note the length and the easy grace of each design- the skirts are ankle length and mainly rather tight with the hobble style so chic in those days- one of the frocks has an unusual tunic with an oddly enchanting ancient Egyptian theme- note also the darling Juliet cap and long peplum of the pink satin number. Irene Castle had great flair both on the floor and in her personal style- she created fads such as the bolero jacket, ankle strapped dance shoes and also was one of the earliest wearers of the bob. 1934 Enchanting Original Vintage Deco Tom Webb Magazine Illustration- Contrary Couple Court In The Moonlight
1934 Enchanting Original Vintage Deco Tom Webb Illustration- Contrary Couple Court in the Moonlight. Absolutely Lovely Original Vintage Art Deco Illustration taken from the pages of a Spring, 1934 issue of Good Housekeeping Magazine. During the Golden Age of Illustration, (1890-1960), every major American periodical and publication featured literally hundreds of original illustrations, tailored and created specifically to entice readers to their pages. Many of the artists became recognized, renowned and revered for their individual talents, imagination and artistry flourishing magnificently for a sweeping period that spanned nearly fifty years. During the divine Art Deco period, illustrators and artists were competing with the bevy of beautiful phantoms seen on the screen- it both informed and influenced the glossy, glamorous look of offerings seen in Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal, McCall's, Delineator, Cosmopolitan, Woman's Home Companion and dozens of others. Artist Tom Webb imbues this offering with a soft, hushed blue glow- radiant and romantic. The caption for the unknown tale reads as follows: Carolyn was so beautiful- I- I lost my head. This is a wonderful example of an artform which deserves critical recognition and display. All of these magazine illustrations are a dwindling, fascinating monument to hundreds of talents- some well known and others well- worth rediscovering. It is the the intention of A Fine Madness, to offer a beautiful selection of these images for sale as often as we unearth them. This beautiful image measures 9 x 13, condition is crisp and bright overall. Please bear in mind when considering purchase that a scanned image of a vintage illustration can never completely capture the delicacy, charm and beauty of the original items. This image had a sparkling suffusion of both light and color that will be incredible on display with any decor. Feel free to ask if there are specific illustrators/artists you might be looking for- will be adding literally dozens of rare magnificent images during the upcoming months. All items at A Fine Madness Collectibles are guaranteed original Vintage, Antique Ads, Prints, Artwork, Postcards, Hollywood and Paper Ephemera- never reproductions or copies. 1933 Delightful, Delicious, Delovely Original Vintage Art Deco John La Gatta Magazine Illustration- Charmed Couple Court Among
1933 Delightful, Delicious, Delovely Vintage Art Deco John LaGatta Magazine Illustration- Charmed Couple Court Among the Blossoms. Elegant and Utterly Charming Original Vintage Art Deco John La Gatta Magazine illustration taken from the pages of a February, 1933 Ladies Home Journal Magazine. Artist La Gatta is at his absolute best here, pulling out all the stops to present a charmed, gorgeous couple in the midst of a little springtime courting. Equally adept at pin-up glamour and more sedately romantic subjects, La Gatta's work was heavily featured in many of the high-gloss magazines of the dazzling Deco period often adding it's own spectacular beauty and grace. The image here is nothing short of sublime: a dapper young couple enjoy a quiet moment, tucked away in the luscious confines of a lovely garden setting- she glances coyly out of doe-eyes as he kneels to ask for her lovely hand. Note the use of color and texture- the glorious gown is a radiant shade of yellow which appears sun-drenched and contrasts so well with the verdant majesty of the overhanging trees, his morning coat and spats and the bounty of deep rose and blue irises. The caption underneath this incredibly vivid and regally romantic vision reads as follows: Doesn't it occur to you the we were made for each other? We are both superstitious, both ambitious, both snobs, both young, both good looking--- A fine example of the increasingly rare original vintage magazine illustrations. During the initial sixty years of the twentieth century, magazine illustration was a popular art form spanning far and wide while encompassing thousands of individual talented artists. They are and remain a precious commodity well-worth rediscovering and displaying to the amusement and delight of generations yet to come. The majority of these gorgeous images were used once and often afterwards destroyed. Each is a unique reminder of the imagination, talents and mind-sets of days long since gone, to be forever appreciated, admired and enjoyed. It is A Fine Madness Collectibles mission for 2013, to provide customers with an ever expanding link to these past glories- enjoy them for the beauty they offer! Illustration measures 11 x 15 condition is crisp and bright- the colors dance and leap off the page to perfection in person. Will be a novel gift for the upcoming holidays! 1924 Adorable Vintage Deco Halloween Post Cover- Flirty Flapper In Ruffled Frock And Eerie Jack O' Lantern Pearl L. Hill Art
1924 Adorable Vintage Deco Halloween Post Cover Art- Fetching Flapper in Ruffled Frock with Eerie Jack O' Lantern Companion.- Pearl L. Hill Artwork. Absolutely Darling Original Vintage Deco Saturday Evening Post Artwork created for the November 1, 1924 issue of the magazine. Artist Pearl L. Hill creates a cover with a flirty fetching flapper wearing a ruffled dance dress trimmed in large orange shaded flowers- note the bloom in her cheeks and short bobbed hair- she holds an eerie faced illuminated jack o' lantern gleaming, ghoulish and fantastic. Saturday Evening Post hired hundreds of illustrators and painters to create original charming imagery which certainly helped sell the publication during it's Art Deco heyday. Wonderful image is delicate and delightfully bold at the same time- the only colors are the soft gray orange and black of the background. Hill was particularly adept at images of pretty young flappers- and her work is often compared to contemporary Neysa Mc Mein. Wonderful example of the creme de la creme of cover artistry! Condition is good overall- some wear to the edges and light browning at the bottom. Upside-down mailing label is still affixed over the o and s in word post. 1940 Delightful Vintage Deco/ Forties Liberty Cover Art- Pin-up Golden Bathing Beauty Watches Rubber Sea Horse Deflate
1940 Delightful Vintage Deco/Forties Liberty Magazine Cover Art- Golden Pin-Up Bathing Beauty is Aghast as Rubber Sea Horse Deflates! Wonderful Original Vintage Late Deco/Early Forties Pin-Up Art as seen on the August 3, 1940 Liberty Magazine cover. Liberty Magazine, a small yet prosperous publication, had the same ear as the readers of Life, Look and Judge- those who loved slightly off-color yet respectable humor with a generous slice of pin-up pulchritude! Unknown artist gives the viewer a real eye-full of the type of golden beauties who were deemed prime pin-up material at the tail-end of the Art Deco period- just as American was gearing up for the Second World War. Wonderful use of playful sex appeal and winsome humor- note the low-cut bathing suit which is the same dazzling shade of gold as her curled hair and the coy look on the sea horse pool float she is aghast to watch deflating. The bottom of the magazine is missing a large piece and contains some general browning- note the tag-line What I think of Hitler by Mahatma Gandhi, in scarlet lettering! Despite a few flaws this is a marvelous bit of pin-up art certain to enhance any decor! Cover only measures 9 x 13 and is in good minus condition overall- fairly bright and certainly worthy of a little care and attention to give it the glamour it so richly deserves! All items at A Fine Madness Collectibles are guaranteed original Vintage, Antique Ads, Prints, Artwork, Postcards, Hollywood and Paper Ephemera- never reproductions or copies. 1930 Charming Vintage Art Deco Neysa Mc Mein Mccall's Cover Art Wistful Flapper Secretary Dreams Of Viking Ship Adventures
1930 Charming Vintage Art Deco Neysa McMein McCall's Cover Art- Wistful Flapper Secretary Dreams of Viking Ship Adventures! Absolutely Charming Original Vintage Art Deco Neysa McMein McCalls Cover Art. Taken from the April, 1930 issue of McCall's Magazine this is artist Neysa McMein at her finest creating a somewhat wistful image of a hard-working slightly bored flapper secretary pausing over her typing duties to dream of bold adventures on storm-tossed seas in an ancient Viking Ship. Neysa was perhaps the most successful female artist of the Dazzling Art Deco era noted for her naturalism, dexterity and ability to throw fabulous soirees at her Greenwich Village digs with guests including Dorothy Parker while creating her art! Among her formidable clients were Coca-Cola, Chevrolet and Real Silk Stockings although her inimitably beautiful artistry was also prominently featured as cover art often on glossy issues of McCall's Magazine. This is a sweet and unusually wistful image for a woman who often created realistic glamour girls as a counterpart to the bevy of gorgeous idealized creatures of the successful male illustrators of the day. Cover only measures 11 x 15- in bright overall condition- love the lettering in lavender and black contrasting with the dreamy gauzy blues and green of the ocean and the crisp efficient tan and white blouse of the young typist. A beautiful image which will delight any fan of Neysa McMein or Art Deco graphics in particular! Mailing label is visible at the bottom of the image stamped in purple- some edgeware also both are typical of magazine cover art from the period and only add to the authentic charm of the image. All items at A Fine Madness Collectibles are guaranteed original Vintage, Antique Ads, Prints, Artwork, Postcards, Hollywood and Paper Ephemera- never reproductions or copies. Robin & Richard, Two Gray Kits 1915 Mother Goose Book Print Volland
Antique original 1915 book page illustrations from 'Mother Goose', re-arranged and edited by Eulalie Osgood Grover, illustrated by Frederick Richardson, Volland Popular Edition, published by M. A. Donohue straight down ) which gives the angular look in the images. Generally excellent condition with bright coloring, but please note that the page edges have been trimmed on many or all sides, and not always in a straight line. There is still sufficient white border areas on all sides to permit easy matting and framing in order to hang on a wall. There are 23 total pages available, each listed and sold separately. Here we are listing Robin and Richard, Were two pretty men and The two gray kits, And the gray kits' mother back-to-back prints from the book. If you are not familiar with the Robin and Richard rhyme, it deals with two men who slept too long in bed. The two gray kits rhyme deals with two kittens and their cat mother who go over a bridge and the bridge breaks. If you need a listing of the exact words in the nursery rhymes (in case you are looking to match it to the way you remember it), please e-mail and that can be provided. For those looking for rhymes listing someone's name, the one with kittens mentions Tom Bolin. Please also note that condition-wise, on the kittens page, a child who formerly owned this book drew on the bottom portion of the page with pencil and crayon lines, with some of the crayon lines also on the lower part of the illustration. Matting could cover the drawn lines in the white border area and the crayon on the print is not too bad given the coloring, but you need to know it is there. Make terrific gifts framed for children's rooms, play rooms, day care and nursery or school rooms, or for giving someone a print of an old rhyme which includes that person's name. Relative to shipping, please note: While this is a book page/print, this item CAN NOT be shipped via U.S.P.S. Media Mail per the post office. Please do not select this shipping option because we will have to contact you and change the shipping to something else, increasing your postage cost.
