Cape Cod Impressionist Oil Painting By Hall Groat
Artist Name: Hall Groat, Sr. Category: Painting Title: The Camel's Hump Signed: Signed and Titled Size: 16 H x 20 W Medium: Oil Material/Ground: Panel Style: Impressionist Subject: Landscape Created: 2014 Hall Groat Sr, an American Impressionist painter is a native of Syracuse, New York, where he studied painting; worked towards his Master of Fines Arts degree and began his life long career as an artist. Groat has dedicated his entire full-time professional career, spanning over forty years, to pursuing his passion for art. The Berkshire Museum was the first of several museums worldwide to acquire a major Groat work. The Museum purchased the prize winner, Megalopolis, one of the largest of Groat's railroad paintings. This is where the late Norman Rockwell first discovered him and invited the then twenty-nine year old to dinner in the Berkshires. The United Nations awarded Groat with the honor of having a series of paintings for their stamp reproduction. The series of ten paintings is in the permanent collections of United Nations Philatelic Museum in Geneva, Switzerland. In addition, Groat's paintings are included in the collections of notables such as President Jimmy Carter, the late Jacob Javits, Henry Kissinger, Fred Perry, Sir Michael Tippett, Christopher Keane, and the late Arthur Fiedler. Ambassadors among countless others have also invested in his work. In recent years, Groat has turned his attention to the corporate world with emphasis on banks, churches, brokerage houses, and insurance companies. His work is included in numerous corporate collections throughout the world today. Clement Greenberg, one of the nation's foremost art critics, once stated that Hall Groat was an artist who could make it and he was proven correct. Original Old Fisherman Oil Painting On Canvas Signed W.a. Seymour
Old Fisherman Oil Painting signed W.A. Seymour. It is on a stretched canvas in a heavy oak frame. The man dipited here has haunting blue eyes. The canvas is 20 x 16 . The frame is 25 x 20 . It is good condition. There looks to be some paint loss in the sky just above the man's hat. The canvas was and remains merely tapped into the frame. Originally it was stored with a pane of heavy frosted glass. And the glass was in place when I took the pictures. However realizing that the glass added unnecessary weight to the piece I removed it. The oak frame is heavy therefore if you would like you can purchase the canvas without the frame.

It measures 42.5 x 22.5 . The execution and the color shading is pleasing. I have not been able find any information on the artist but this certainly is not amateur work. The condition is good but it needs cleaning to bring out the colors.

Abstract Painting Home To Pueblo Helen Kutscher Acoma
Exquisite Abstract Painting sign by Helen Kutscher. The painting has great color as well as interesting texture. There are some bits of rattan in the center that add a curious element. The thing that I like is the ladders made of twisted rattan. Simple ladders as depicted here in this painting have a significant religious meaning in the Acoma culture. The title of this piece is Return to Pueblo . Which is further evidence that the artist is mostly like Acoma. The Acoma people are primarily in New Mexico's high mesa's. Her signature is at at the bottom right corner. Plus there is an juried art show entry tag of the back side of this painting with the original asking price. The painting is on hard artist board mounted to the mat and framed in a goldtone metal frame. The frame is 20 x 13 . The condition is very good.

George Arthur Hays landscape sheep painting on canvas c1900. The frame measures 42 inches by 29 inches, the painting measures 24 x 36 inches. Very good condition. George Arthur Hays (1854-1945) sheep landscape oil painting. Bio from RogerKingFineArts.com. George Arthur Hays (1854-1945) is one of Rhode Island's most popular 19th-century artists. He was born in Greenville, New Hampshire and spent his adult life in Providence, keeping a studio at the Woods Building on College Street. Hays was a member of the Providence Art Club, where he exhibited from 1888 to 1940, the Society for Independent Artists, the Copley Society, and the Providence Water Color Club. Self-taught, Hays painted in oils and watercolors and is best known for tranquil landscapes featuring cows and sheep. Records indicate that he painted scenery for Keith's Circuit, and for Boston's Park Theatre in 1887. His works have an enduring charm that have endeared them to generations of collectors, and his penchant for depicting grazing livestock, whether singly or in flocks, in bucolic settings, seemingly never flagged. Stylistically, Hays' works seem to derive their inspiration from the Barbizon School and French animal portraiture, an offshoot of the Barbizon tradition that dignified work animals, imbuing them with a sense of patient endurance and uncomplaining service. Hays often created companion paintings, one of sheep and another of cows, but rarely combined the two animals within the same composition. Shipping extra. Henry Rankin Poore The Wood Gatherers Landscape Oil Painting C1900
Henry Rankin Poore The Wood Gatherers landscape oil painting c1900. Frame measures 29 x 39 inches. The painting 20 x 30 inches. Bio from AskArt.com Born in Newark, New Jersey, Henry Rankin Poore became a painter of rural landscape subjects, fox hunting, portraits, and animals. He has been described as a spirited and versatile artist, able to paint on diverse themes and noted for his sporting pictures as well as genre and landscape paintings. (Zellman 544) He was raised in California and planned to study for the ministry. However, the art exhibition section of the 1874 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia re-directed his goals. In the early 1880s, he traveled to New Mexico and Colorado, and was the first American artist to have a painting published with a reference to the Taos Pueblo. This depiction was a burro train leaving the Pueblo and is recorded as being done in 1882. His mining illustrations of Colorado from that same trip were published in Harper's Weekly. In 1888, he is listed as having been in Taos again. To insure his art training, he studied at the National Academy of Design in New York for a year and then with Peter Moran at the Pennsylvania School of Fine Arts. He became a popular painter during this time of dogs, hunting and western mining, and made enough money from his art sales to study at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1883. That year until 1885, he studied in Paris with William Bouguereau at the Academie Julian and was also in Paris again in 1892 following a foxhunting and sketching trip to England. In 1890, he became a special agent for the United States Census Bureau to illustrate the Report on the Condition of Fifteen Pueblos of New Mexico in 1890. Collaborating with him were artists Peter Moran, Julian Scott, Gilbert Gaul and Walter Shirlaw. Henry Rankin Poore was a long-time active artist in Philadelphia, and from 1890, taught at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. During this period, he turned his painting subjects to more ordinary genre---humble persons going about everyday life. This work has been described as being similary to that of the Barbizon painter Jean Millet (1814-1875). Poore also became part of the Art Colony at Old Lyme, Connecticut where, to get his rural landscape subjects, he constructed a portable studio drawn by oxen. He then created pictures of the oxen pulling farm laborers on hay carts. He lived at the end of his life in Orange, New Jersey where he died in 1940. Shipping extra. Connecticut residents and buyers picking up in Connecticut add 6.35% state sales tax. Buyers outside the USA are responsible for any taxes, tariffs or customs that might apply. *** If you wish to see examples of similar items we have sold and/or appraised please go to our affiliate site www.OneofaKindAntiques.com and click the Archives / Homepage logo ***

    Vintage Charcoal Portrait
Vintage charcoal portrait. I took this out to look for a signature but there is none. This is a charcoal and chalk? original artwork. I do not know the age but it is not brand new. It looks much better than the photos show it because of the type of glass which is not non-glare. The glass could be replaced with non-glare glass. There is a small circular worn spot near front bottom; not sure what caused that, see pic #5. The frame is 14.75 wide x almost 19 inches long. It is a very well done charcoal and would look great in a mission, arts & crafts, country, primitive or southwest style room. 3/13smc

    Vintage Signed Landscape Oil
Vintage landscape oil painting by Mary Jane Car. Titled: McKay's Farm, Underwood, Ontario. Largeoil on artboard. The frame is 27.5 inches x 21.5 inches x 1.25 deep. The oil on board itself is 24 x 19 inches. It is a very simplistic, serene picture. The clouds are of very thickly applied paint; likely done with a painting knife. There is no date when it was done, but the back paper is quite old and the taped on tag is very yellowed, almost a dark brown. I'd estimate it to be from the 1940's-50's or earlier. Back tag reads: NAME: Mary Jane Carr, 1015 Longfellow, Royal Oak. SCHOOL: Van Dyke, and the TITLE as stated above. The frame itself is a tiny bit scuffed along edges, but since it is a rustic style frame to start with it isn't bad. Back paper is torn. I did some research on this artist; and if I have the correct lady, she passed away in 1999, (she had been living in R.O., MI, then moved to Berkley, she was 79 when she passed, which would make her 93 today if she were still alive, and her birthdate would have been 1920. Research also reveals that Underwood, Ontario no longer has any farmland, it is all suburbs now so this farm would no longer exist. This is a very nice painting that could fit into any country, primitive, or contemporary decor. 2/13scs

Seiho Takeuchi Mongoose With Berry Branch Watercolor On Paper
Seiho Takeuchi Mongoose with Berry Branch watercolor on paper signed. Japanese 1864-1942. The image measures 14 x 18 inches and the frame 24 x 20.5 inches. Takeuchi Seiho, born December 20, 1864 Died August 23, 1942) was the pseudonym of a Japanese painter of the nihonga genre, active from the Meiji through the early Showa period. One of the founders of nihonga, his works spanned half a century and he was regarded as master of the prewar Kyoto circle of painters. His real name was Takeuchi Tsunekichi. Seiho was born in Kyoto. As a child, he loved to draw and wanted to become an artist. He was a disciple of Kono Bairei of the Maruyama-Shijo school of traditional painting. In 1882, two of his works received awards at the Naikoku Kaiga Kyoshinkai (Domestic Painting Competition), one of the first modern painting competitions in Japan, which launched him on his career. During the Exposition Universelle in Paris (1900), he toured Europe, where he studied Western art. After returning to Japan he established a unique style, combining the realist techniques of the traditional Japanese Maruyama-Shijo school with Western forms of realism borrowed from the techniques of Turner and Corot. This subsequently became one of the principal styles of modern Nihonga. His favorite subjects were animals -often in amusing poses, such as a monkey riding on a horse. He was also noted for his landscapes. From the start of the Bunten exhibitions in 1907, Seiho served on the judging committee. In 1909 he became a professor at the Kyoto Municipal College of Painting (the forerunner to the Kyoto City University of Arts). Seiho also established his own private school, the Chikujokai. Many of his students later went on to establish themselves as noted artists, including Tokuoka Shinsen and Uemura Shoen. In 1913, Seiho was appointed as a court painter to the Imperial Household Agency, and in 1919 was nominated to the Imperial Fine Arts Academy (Teikoku Bijutsuin). He was one of the first persons to be awarded the Order of Culture when it was established in 1937. He initially used characters for the first name of his pseudonym, and this name was possibly pronounced as Saiho. This is a great portrait image of him with his yellowish torn hat. Wonderful, wonderful coloring and nice broad strokes of the brush. Excellent Condition. Is SIGNED in the lower right hand corner by the artist: RUST. He created this LIMITED EDITION and hand made only 250 paintings of this image. This is numbered 90 out of 250, dated 1982. This indeed IS a nice LARGER SIZED oil painting. Nice simple heavy wood frame, a rich brown coloring. Very good condition. This beautiful frame is a finely hand-crafted work of art and is a perfect complement to this painting. Hook and wiring on the back ready for you to hang on your wall. Painting Weary Willie , based on the hobos of the Depression era. Kelly began his career as a trapeze artist. By 1923, Emmett Kelly was working his trapeze act with John Robinson's circus when he met and married Eva Moore, another circus trapeze artist. They later performed together as the Aerial Kellys with Emmett still performing occasionally as a white face clown. He started working as a clown full-time in 1931, and it was only after years of attempting to persuade the management that he was able to switch from a white face clown to the hobo clown that he had sketched ten years earlier while working at an art firm. Weary Willie was a tragic figure: a clown, who could usually be seen sweeping up the circus rings after the other performers. He tried but failed to sweep up the pool of light of a spotlight. His routine was revolutionary at the time: traditionally, clowns wore white face and performed slapstick stunts intended to make people laugh. Kelly did perform stunts too - one of his most famous acts was trying to crack a peanut with a sledgehammer - but as a tramp, he also appealed to the sympathy of his audience. From 1942-1956 Kelly performed with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, where he was a major attraction, though he took the 1956 season off to perform as the mascot for the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. He also landed a number of Broadway and film roles, including the role of Willie in Cecil B. DeMille's The Greatest Show on Earth (1952). He also appeared in the Bertram Mills Circus. Kelly was a Mystery Guest on the March 11, 1956, broadcast of What's My Line? and answered the panelists' questions with grunts rather than speaking yes or no. When the round was over, panelist Arlene Francis mentioned that Kelly was not allowed to speak while in makeup. Kelly is depicted in a famous photograph, still in full clown make-up and costume, trying to extinguish the flames of the devastating Hartford Circus Fire that struck the Circus on July 6, 1944, and killed 167 people during the afternoon performance in Hartford, Connecticut. According to eyewitnesses, it was one of few times in which he was seen crying Death Emmett Kelly died at the age of 80 of a heart attack on March 28, 1979, at his home in Sarasota, Florida. He is buried in the Rest Haven Memorial Park, in Lafayette, Indiana Note: Combined shipping for multiple purchases is NOT offered. Artwork is packaged separately to ensure safe handling. Oil Painting On Glass Antique, snow Landscape Wood Frame
Oil Painting on Glass Antique Snow Landscape Wood Framed Original Artwork Unique treasure we uncovered at an antique store. Unique in the fact that this is a handpainted oil painting ON GLASS. On the suface and not on the back. Beautiful depiction of a landscrape in the winter snow season. Most likely the evening as th sun has recently set and an see the lovely hues of yellows and oranges in the sky. Up front you can see some oxen pulling a tobaggon or sled loaded with some wood logs as a man has a stick prodding the cattle. Is riding up the road to his home. Can see whiffs of smoke tapering in the sky. Nice snow covered trees surround the homes as they are nestled around the large pond. Cannot see a signature, it might be behind the frame ~ as I have not taken apart the artwork. It is in Very Good Condition for its age. There are some small areas of the painting that is missing some paint. Have taken pictures of them for you to review, so you are buying as is. Still makes a nice display item. Could restore if it is bothersome to the new owner. I listed this as an early 1900s picture, but believe it might be from the very late 1800s. As also have listed this at a realitively low listing price than what a unique item of this nature would be. Housed in its original old gold stained wood frame. Very nice wood carved inner border lining. In the uppper right area some gold is rubbed off, a few dents in wood. Otherwise pretty much unflawed for its age. On the back is still attached the old nails, and thin card paper stock, kinda of brittle. Have not touched it, plus the old wiring is loose. Overall the frame measures 15-5/8 inches wide by 13-5/8 inches high, 2-1/8 inches wide of the wood frame. Back measurement, which would be the glass painting is 12-1/8 inches wide by 10-1/8 inches high. Thanks for visiting Dogwood Trail Antiques. **WE GLADLY SELL WORLDWIDE ~ JUST ASK FOR SHIPPING QUOTE!!**

    Anthony Robert Klitz (1917-2000; Britain).
Horseguards at Wellington Arch : oil on canvas (30 x 15 ); ca. 1960s. Signed LR; titled verso. Excellent condition. Listing: Dav. Born in Southport, Tony Klitz was educated at Bishop Wordsworth School, Salisbury, and attended Cheltenham Art School (1936-1939) until his war service (1939-1945). Demobilized as a Major, he eventually came to live and work in London in 1950 and evolved his style after working with the Australian artist Hayward Veal (while in London). At the time of his second exhibition in London, the critic Norman Collins wrote: In comparison with other great capitals of the world London remains astonishingly unpainted. Mr. Klitz, an artist with a fine sense of architectural atmosphere and character, has done a great deal to redress the balance. His pictures show a fine but restrained sense of colour and he is engagingly sensitive to the London scene. Mr. Klitz is an artist - and this is a high tribute indeed - whose work will appeal equally to those who live in London and to those who have paid a visit to London, and want to have something by which to remember it. Whether it is Horse Guards Parade or the River, Mr. Klitz has captured that strange pearly light which is the secret of so much of London's grace.

Cowboy On Horseback Framed Watercolor Painting
I've had this wonderful original watercolor painting of a cowboy on horseback in my living room for a good decade, but it no longer fits with my new decor. The watercolor picture itself is a full 8 by 10 inches and depicts a cowboy riding a galloping horse, his lariat in one outstretched hand. In the background a wooden house and outbuilding are nestled among pine trees at the base of snow-covered mountains. The painting is signed only EE 80 (presumably 1980). The painting is in excellent condition. It's mounted in an inexpensive glass-topped metal photo frame and has a flowered paper oval mat that no doubt came with the frame. The mat is marked Intercraft Industries Corporation 1977. I've always kept it just as found from a Utah farm auction but the painting is nice enough that you may wish to put it in a better frame.
