American Holly, Botanical Lithograph, Normill Print
This is a lovely artistic antique botanical flower print American Holly (circa 1925-34)in original frame - labels on the back - Framed by HAIGH , Trade Mark, Made in England. It's about 13,5 x 12 inches (35cm x 20cm).IN TOTALLY UNTOUCHED CONDITION WITH ORIGINAL NORMILL PRINT! This is from an old flower prints whose goal was to present all the wild flowers native to North America at that time. The flowers are presented in more scientific presentation used by biologists and scientists, which is as a close-up of the flower on its own on a white background. Mary Walcott famous artist has captured the exquisite detail in the leaves, stem and flower buds. Given the changing world climate and decline in forest and wildlands over the last century, the flowering plants from this series are in many cases quite rare in their wild ecological habitat and are most likely found being cultivated in a florist garden store or greenhouse. Fourtunately, many of these species are now protected by conservation laws. DESCRIPTION OF FLOWER: Ilex ofaca Aiton The brilliant red berries and spiny evergreen leaves of American holly carry with them all the Old World associations, even though our species is different from that of Europe. The inconspicuous flowers are of a greenish color, and the pistillate and staminate flowers usually occur on separate trees. American holly is most abundant in moist woods on rather acid soils. It sometimes reaches a height of fifty feet, with a trunk three and a half feet in diameter, but is of slow growth. The wood is white, close-grained, and hard; the bark greenish gray, with white markings. The great demand for holly at Christmas stimulates cutting for commercial purposes, and is denuding the forests of this beautiful evergreen. To save it from extermination, substitutes must be used whenever possible. American holly is found from Florida to Texas and Missouri, and northward to Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. The sketch was made from a specimen obtained near Washington, District of Columbia.

Artist Christine Rosamond (1947-1994): Art Brokerage CEO, Donna Rose first met Christine Rosamond at Washart in 1976 in Washington D.C. California Artist Christine Rosamond, a self-taught artist, exhibited her first two paintings in Los Angeles in 1972. Within six months she would achieve national acclaim. She soon became the most published artist in the world, surpassing even Norman Rockwell and Salvadore Dali. And yet, her name is not nearly as well-known as many of the artists she has surpassed in print. The artistic legacy of Christine Rosamond is a body of work which eloquently expresses the essence of femininity with a simple charm and beauty that can only originate in the heart of the artist. We can only wonder what further joys she might have brought us. On March 26, 1994 the world lost this very talented and treasured artist on the Pacific's rocky coast. Christine had drowned while swimming off Carmel with her daughter. The world, indeed, has lost a gem.
