Framed Signed B&w 1921 Baby With Ball Photograph By Gertrude Sayer
Nifty old framed photograph of a 6 month old baby holding and looking at a ball. Antique photo card which is mounted/attached to a matte/backboard of some type then framed under glass in an old wood frame. Vintage baby picture of a boy is shown in oval shape with handwriting beneath on the photo card which says, R. W. K. Dickie 3/1921 6 mos. On the matte itself under this is the presumed photographers signature, Gertrude Sayer 1921 or that is what the name looks like to us (we are not totally sure of the last few letters of the last name). Frame measurements are 10 1/2 x 8 3/8 inches. Mounted photo card measurements are about 6 2/8 x 4 1/2 inches. Frame, mounting, etc. are original as found. On the backside there is the original paper covering the nails which is very tattered/ripped/missing around the edges but still there with some tape holding this paper to the backboard/frame so as not to lose it...but the frame appears never opened/original here, too. On the paper there is a small round label which states, John Gossert, Artistic Picture Framing, 129 S. Third St., Third so we know the photo was framed in Philadelphia, PA (although we can't tell from this if it was also photographed in Philadelphia). We did replace the picture hanging wire since the old wire was not in good shape. Please see the 6 included images for details. The white hot spots in some images are reflections from the camera lighting on the glass surface. Also, in a few images the photo looks yellow but it is not yellow. In order to show detail in close-ups, we had to turn the camera lighting off in some images. The first photo of the full front side of the picture is truest to the color in person. Our apologies....we did the best we could. Excellent aged old condition, with exception of the backside paper covering as noted above. The matte board and photograph border area coloring appears aged to us, likely they were once white but now are ivory or light tan. Glass is in excellent shape. Thin wood frame in nice old condition, seems tight, has some wear/scarring but nothing bad or unexpected given age. A great vintage photo find which would make a nice addition to any old photograph collection or for use in a baby's room, nursery, nursery school décor, retail selling baby items, etc. For shipping purposes, framed picture itself weighs almost one pound unpacked.
Very nice antique photograph picture of two people in an old convertible car. It could be a Ford or an Oldsmobile of its time. The young lady is at the wheel of the car, and maybe her father or an older gentlemen is in the back seat. Would make a lovely addition to any home. What is interesting in this photograph is that you can see a long pennant banner flag that has the wording: WAPAKONETA. (To the left of the man). I did a little research on the name and found out that there is a little town in Ohio, just west of the state. In 2010 the census of the town was a small population of 9,867 people. Founded 1782. Incorporated March 2, 1849. Wapakoneta was an important site to the Ottawa Native Americans prior to their leaving Ohio. By 1798, the Shawnee Native Americans had made Wapakoneta their territory and displaced the Ottawa. By 1808, there were reports of more than five hundred Shawnee, Seneca of the Iroquois, and Mingo Native Americans living at Wapakoneta, including Black Hoof. The Native Americans of Wapakoneta adopted the agricultural methods that the missionaries from the Society of Friends had introduced to them. The Native Americans worked to prove that they had indeed adopted the life of the white settlers. Wapakoneta was the location of the first sawmill and gristmill in northwest Ohio. The Shawnee and Seneca continued to live at Wapakoneta until the United States forced them to leave in 1831, as part of Indian Removal to lands west of the Mississippi River. White settlers quickly replaced the native population. For the next 150 years, Auglaize County residents primarily were devoted to agriculture, although several additional industries existed in the city by the late nineteenth century. During the 1880s, an oil and natural gas drilling industry arose. Wapakoneta's 2,765 residents also claimed to produce more butter churns than any other single location in the United States during this same time period. In 2000, more than nine thousand people called Wapakoneta home. Many residents find employment at General Aluminum, Wapakoneta City Schools, Koneta Rubber Co. and companies outside Wapakoneta proper. It was mentioned in the movie Third Finger Left Hand as the home town of character Jeff Thompson, who repeatedly got strange looks when he would say where he was from. Some more facts: Wapakoneta, Ohio is in Auglaize County. Is also the birthplace of astronaut Neil Armstrong. Wapakoneta is a sister city to Lengerich, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Notable people: Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. Bob Ewing, Major League Baseball player Dudley Nichols, Oscar-winning screenwriter Jennifer Crusie, romance novel writer Robert Vogel, IPSC and IDPA shooting world champion, and several times National champion of both USPSA and IDPA. John T. Smith, wrestler. Kent Boyd, SYTYCD dancer. Season 7. Print is what I would consider in EXCELLENT CONDITION, (I would call it that. No tears, No stains, No Fading.) (We have not taken the picture apart, will leave it up to the new buyer to clean it up.) Housed in its old Original Antique Wood Frame that maintains its Original Old Convex Oval Glass. The oval wood border is a gesso material made smooth and detailed in what I would call a tiger striped design. Or tortoise shell type design. Frame is one of the nicest condition we have seen. It does have some minor tiny bumps, scratches, but they are minor. Overall the frame measures approximately 23 inches wide by 16-3/4 inches high. the oval print measurement on the back is approx: 20 inches wide by 13-3/4 inches high. Still maintains its original old cardboard backer and nails. Wiring on back is ready to hang up on your wall. Striking piece of Victorian Art Photograph.

Black Systemic . The signature is a bit hard to decipher but I think it says Marie A Bates . However I could by way off on that . Please look at the pictures I have provided. It is very well done. The contrasts and the swirls make for an interesting subject. I don't know for sure but it appears to be a cross section close up of a red cabbage. It goes to show that one does not have to travel far and wide to capture great photographs. It all about the artist eye. It is in metal framed behind glass. The total measurement is 11 x 14 . The condition of the photograph is excellent. SOLAS SERENDIPITY ON LINE ANTIQUE SALES Check out our fabulously wonderful & wide variety of estate treasures.
