    Snow Scene Buffaloes-albert Bierstadt
We have obtained some wonderful vintage Americana theme style prints in EXCELLENT condition. Have located these in a booklet that dated approx. 1920's-1930's. GUARANTEED OLD AND ORIGINAL. Nice quality paper stock, like a linen type texture. This was painted by: ALBERT BIERSTADT. Usually when we think of the buffalo we picture a mighty herd charging across the Western plains. We hear the thunder of hooves, and see clouds of dust. But here the artist has painted a different scene for us. He gives us a picture of these noble animals in a quiet world blanketed by peaceful winter snow. This picture is wonderfully detailed of this herd of buffalo, snow all around them, as they near a passing stream of water. Safe shelter by the huge bare trees nearby. Pictures are true to color, except for any glare from camera. Measures 12 W x 8 H. CONDITION: NEAR-EXCELLENT/GREAT, for it's age. Slight age yellowing of print noticed on the back of print, also some yellowing across the upper part of print. Can also see a small (white) area where the print has rubbed off. We also showed an angled view of the camera of the dried glue that runs by the rubbed area. Still a great print. Great piece of Americana theme print. Thanks for visiting DOGWOOD TRAIL ANTIQUES

Quaint Rail Station Lithogaph-edward Lamson Henry
This illustration was painted by: EDWARD LAMSON HENRY, (1867). When we ride on modern trains, it is difficult to remember that our forefathers were dependent on transportation such as that offered by *The 9:45 A.M. Accommodation, Stratford, Connecticut.* Charles Dickens, in his American Notes, says: *There is a great deal of jolting, a great deal of noise, a great deal of wall, not much window, a locomotive engine, a shriek, and a bell. The cars are like shabby omnibuses.... In the centre of the carriage there is usually a stove which is for the most part red-hot. It is insufferably close....* This picture is wonderfully detailed, of a train station, can see the train to the side as people are boarding, luggage everyway, people hurrying to not miss it. Can see buggys, stagecoaches, wagons, all with people being pulled by horses. Victorian designed homes in the background. Pictures are true to color, except for any glare from camera. Measures a larger 12 W x 6-3/4 H. CONDITION: NEAR-EXCELLENT/GREAT, for it's age. Slight age yellowing of print noticed on the back of print, also some yellowing across the upper part of print. Can also see a small (white) area where the print has rubbed off. Great piece of Americana theme print. We have obtained some wonderful vintage Americana theme style prints in EXCELLENT condition. Famous color image that will be beautiful framed in your collection. Condition: EXCELLENT. Another unrelated advertisement is on the back side. Certificate of Authenticity is provided showing this piece to be from an original magazine (not a copy). Some info on C. Coles Phillips from bpib . com on the net: C. Coles Phillips was born in 1880 in Springfield, Ohio. Others of his generation include Joseph Clement Coll, Edmund Dulac, Harvey Dunn, Walter Everett, Willy Pogany, Harry Rountree, Sarah Stilwell Weber, and N.C. Wyeth, Though he enjoyed drawing as a youngster, when he graduated from high school his father got him a job as a clerk for the local American Radiator Company. By all accounts Phillips was a personable, attractive young man and really had no interest, or talent, for clerking. He enrolled in Kenyon College in 1902 and found an audience for his art in the school year books. His drawings appear in the 1901-1904 issues of The Reveille. After his Junior year, he had enough. He really wanted to draw and in 1904 left Ohio for New York City determined to earn a living with his art. You can read more at bpib . com if you like. Large Chromolithograph Die-cut,edwardian Lady In Lace
Here is a beautiful original Victorian Chromolithograph die-cut that we rescued from a disintegrating scrapbook. Think this still would be appreciated by someone and could still make a great impression framed. Or maybe this was a large trade card(?), since it seems to have some advertising on her belt. This probably was produced in Germany. Is a beautiful Edwardian lady dressed in a long white chiffon gown with lots of lace and ruffles, around her neck area, around her shoulders and at end of arms. She is holding onto a wooden stick, might possibly represent an umbrella and the circular midnight blue area around her head might be the expanded umbrella(?). Measures a LARGE 9-5/8 W X 11-3/4 H. CONDITION: Nice vivid, brillant coloring. Condition ~ as shown. The only tears we see is at her right hand area, the rest are creases, scuffs in chromo surface, and some cracking from the creases. Not too terribly bad of condition. Still overall ~ this antique warrants owning, even with it's flaws. Thanks for visiting DOGWOOD TRAIL ANTIQUES

    Antique Lithograph/etching Print-six Classic Poets
Here is certainly A STEP BACK IN TIME!!! This is an antique photograph/sepitone, dating approximately mid to late 1800's??.. Happens to be six small portrait styles of famous men ~ OUR AMERICAN POETS. Poets pictured (left to right) in oval cameos are: (info taken from answers.com) BRYANT 1794 - 1878 WHISTLER 1802 - 1892 EMERSON 1803 - 1882 LONGFELLOW 1807 - 1882 HOLMES 1809 - 1894 LOWELL 1819 - 1891 BRYANT 1794 - 1878 William Cullen Bryant (born Nov. 3, 1794, Cummington, Mass., U.S. - died June 12, 1878, New York, N.Y.) U.S. poet. At age 17 Bryant wrote Thanatopsis, a meditation on nature and death that remains his best-known poem; influenced by deism, it in turn influenced Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. Admitted to the bar at age 21, he spent nearly 10 years as an attorney, a profession he hated. His Poems (1821), including To a Waterfowl, secured his reputation. In 1825 he moved to New York City, where for almost 50 years (1829 - 78) he was editor in chief of the Evening Post, which he transformed into an organ of progressive thought. WHISTLER 1802 - 1892 Info not found. Ralph Waldo Emerson 1803 - 1882 Ralph Waldo Emerson's father was the seventh in an unbroken line of ministers dating back to Puritan days, and after attending Harvard Emerson himself became a Unitarian minister. After the death of his young wife and two elder brothers, Emerson began to doubt his faith and in 1832 resigned his ministry. Eventually he settled in Concord, Massachusetts, where he lived most of the rest of his life thinking, writing and speaking. Emerson remains important in American history as a founder of the school of thought known as Transcendentalism. Its chief features were a reliance on intuition over cold scientific reason, a belief that the natural world held spiritual truths, and an optimistic view of the human spirit. Emerson was known as a stirring speaker, eventually earning the sobriquet the Sage of Concord. LONGFELLOW 1807 - 1882 Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (born Feb. 27, 1807, Portland, Mass., U.S. - died March 24, 1882, Cambridge, Mass.) U.S. poet. Longfellow graduated from Bowdoin College and traveled in Europe before joining the modern-language faculties of Bowdoin (1829 - 35) and Harvard (1836 - 54). His Voices of the Night (1839), containing The Psalm of Life and The Light of the Stars, first won him popularity. Ballads and Other Poems (1841), including The Wreck of the Hesperus and The Village Blacksmith, swept the nation, as did his long poem Evangeline (1847). With Hiawatha (1855), The Courtship of Miles Standish (1858), and Tales of a Wayside Inn (1863), including Paul Revere's Ride, he became the best-loved American poet of the 19th century. He later translated Dante's Divine Comedy (1867) and published his intended masterpiece, Christus, a trilogy on Christianity (1872). The hallmarks of his verse are gentleness, simplicity, and an idealized vision of the world HOLMES 1809 - 1894 Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. Born: 29 August 1809 Birthplace: Cambridge, Massachusetts Died: 7 October 1894 (natural causes) Best Known As: Author of The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table An intellectual triple threat as doctor, speaker and author, Oliver Wendell Holmes was a leading citizen of 19th-century Boston. He graduated from Harvard in 1829 and first came to prominence the next year, when his patriotic poem Old Ironsides helped prevent the scrapping of the historic battleship U.S.S. Constitution. ( Aye, tear her tattered ensign down! is the poem's opening command.) Holmes studied medicine in Paris, then returned to Harvard and earned his M.D. in 1836. At the early age of 33 he became the first dean of Harvard Medical School and from 1847 until 1882 he was a popular professor of physiology and anatomy; his research produced a groundbreaking 1843 paper on The Contagiousness of Puerperal Fever. He also became a highly-regarded public speaker at Boston affairs of all sorts. Beyond that, he published many volumes of writings and essays throughout his life, starting with Poems in 1836. In 1858 he helped found the magazine Atlantic Monthly, and for many years he wrote the magazine's popular feature The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table, whose protagonist held forth at an imaginary Boston boarding house, dishing up witty opinions on an endless variety of subjects. These essays were eventually collected in a series of books, including The Professor at the Breakfast Table and The Poet at the Breakfast Table. Holmes also wrote a popular biography of his Boston contemporary Ralph Waldo Emerson. His son, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., was a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1902-32. LOWELL 1819 - 1891 James Russell Lowell born Feb. 22, 1819, Cambridge, Mass., U.S. - died Aug. 12, 1891, Cambridge) U.S. poet, critic, editor, and diplomat. He received a law degree from Harvard but chose not to practice. In the 1840s he wrote extensively against slavery, including the Biglow Papers (1848), satirical verses in Yankee dialect. His other most important works are The Vision of Sir Launfal (1848), a long poem on the brotherhood of mankind; and A Fable for Critics (1848), a witty evaluation of contemporary authors. After his wife's death in 1853, he wrote mainly essays on literature, history, and politics. A highly influential man of letters in his day, he taught at Harvard, edited The Atlantic Monthly and The North American Review, and served as minister to Spain and ambassador to Britain. Measures 11-1/8 W x 3 H. CONDITION: The longer picture itself is in fabulous/excellent condition. Just some aging. Has been placed on a matting board, and most likely was framed at one time. See the age of the backboard. Matting is rather fragile, even more so in handling. (Since photographing a piece has crumbled off/fragile. Matte has crumbled more and probably would be better off to throw away and just mail you the lithograph print.) New owner will definately need to rematt this great piece. This antique still would look fabulous framed!! Great historical walk-in-time!! Always happy to combine items for shipping savings!). Good luck. ~~ LOW RESERVE ~~ FOR THIS BEAUTY
