Illinois State Penitentiary Stateville softcover booklet approximately 5.5 x 8.5 written by Joseph E. Ragen, Warden (1936-1961). It was ...prepared to give the public some information as to the operation of the Illinois State Penitentiary, Joliet-Stateville Branch, the inmates' mode of living and the training given them so that when they are releases they may take their place in society as useful citizens. There is no date but looks mid 1930s from the images. Lots of black and white images inside. Covers have some age soiling consistent with age. Looks like someone restapled the booklet together as the original staples are missing.

The inside pages are crisp and clean. These pages have some foxing, no brittle pages. The binding is tight. There are four small pinholes through about half the book on the bottom edges of this book. I suspect a child took one of mom's straight pins and tried to punch all the pages - very close to the bottom edge of the pages. This 214-page hardcover is in Good Plus condition.
