As he grew older, Heracles was famous not only in Thebes but throughout all Greece for his bravery and strength. Hera, queen of the gods, hated Heracles, however, and she sent a madness upon him so that he committed a terrible crime. When he regained his senses, Heracles was horrified at what he had done. As a penance, he had to become the servant of his cowardly cousin King Eurystheus, and was set twelve labors to perform. These were difficult and dangerous, and Heracles needed all his strength and courage. Under 2 lb.

Adventure at Riverton Zoo is a wonderful book about a young boy's summer helping his grandfather who is curator of a zoo. Sent there when he failed tryouts for music camp, the boy finds adventure from the minute he boards the bus from home. First, there is the problem of the monkey concealed in the basket which his old friend hands him just as the bus pulls away. At Riverton, he finds his grandfather's job threatened by a strange decision of the zoo's official board. The situation is not helped by the presence of his grandfather's rich friend who believes in the supernatural; or by Pablo, a sensitive Mexican boy; or Lyn, a tomboyish girl who sees no good at all in Pablo. The summer at Riverton proves to be one that none of them will forget! The book is written by Dorothy Brenner Francis, a longtime resident of Marshalltown, Iowa, who is well known for her children's books. Nice b/w drawings throughout by Hans Behrens. Now, this book is a library discard with the usual stamps, etc., but it also has a couple of pages that were torn at the bottom and have been taped. You know how some books have pages that weren't cut completely through at the bindery...well I'm sure that's what happened here to those torn pages.
