    Devotions For Dieters
Author, minister and life-long dieter Charlie Shedd wrote 'Devotions for Dieters' to help people combat what he termed 'a dreary and lonely time.' And he went on to explain that this need not be so: 'The joy of the Lord and the thrill of being alive comes as a result of commitment. and that includes spiritual commitment, which for people like us means right eating plus sound physical conditioning.' He challenges the reader to consider 'What did I look like when the Lord first dreamed of me?', then to use that fresh mental image to work toward your goal. Here are time-tested devotions for dieters, rich with scriptural truth and affirmations. Each devotion offers a powerful spiritual capsule certain to give any dieter a lift who turns to the Lord for strength. 1930s Ames, Iowa, Woman's Club Cook Book
The Ames Woman's Club Cook Book is a wonderful hardbound record of what foods were popular amongst Midwestern cooks of the 1930s era. Throughout the more than 250 pages are RECIPES for not only the usual beverages, bread, eggs, pasta, soups, fish meats, vegetables, etc., but sections for hot puddings and pudding sauces, pastry and fancy cakes, cocktails, canapes, one-dish meals, sick room and infant feedings and 100-calorie portions of various common foods. These are an historic treasure chest! Members of the cook book committees are identified and 'interesting facts' about the CITY OF AMES, IOWA are listed. (The city boasted 21 miles of paving, 245 fire hydrants, 380 electric ranges and 3900 telephones in service. 4300 students were enrolled at Iowa State University and 10,261 people resided in the city limits!) The recipes are all attributed to their donors, but the book remains somewhat unusual in that it contains no ads for city merchants. It's a great one anyway! CONDITION: The book is in Good condition (perhaps Very Good inside!) Pages are browned with age and some corners have been chipped. The covers show minimal edge/corner wear, a few scuffs, and a couple of stains. It's complete and easily readable and useable!

Antique Cook Booklets Early 1900's-junk For Crafting
This is a lot of 5 cookbooklets from the early 1900's. They are no longer usable or collectible and are being offered as junk crafting materials. Again, these are not being sold as cook books, but simply as material for the creative among us. I just can't seem to throw history in the trash. I recently saw some creative uses for old recipes/kitchen paper in a magazine and would like to pass these on to someone who can utilize them.

Confident Cook: Basic Recipes, How To Build Them
In 'The Confident Cook,' author Irena Chalmers demonstrates there are only four or five basic methods of cooking food. Once you've mastered them, these basic methods can be used with many different ingredients to create countless dishes. For example, she shows how beef stew, braised veal, coq au vin, and a vegetable casserole are similar in their preparation; how a simple beef stew can become a hearty Mulligan, a Belgian carbonnade, a French boeuf bourguignon, or your own less classic invention. More importantly, she shows that you can whip up something delectable from whatever supplies you have available, without being slavishly tied to a recipe with specified ingredients. About 200 recipes are included, along with logical and practical directions for making them successfully with your own creative cooking ideas! Both the book and its dust jacket are in Very Good condition with only very light edge/corner wear. A previous owner's name is handwritten inside the front.

Feasts For Two: Menus, Recipes For 50 Fabulous Meals
When you think of a dinner for two, invariably you think of romance. But the knowledgeable romantic has questions as well: What shall I serve? How much shall I buy? What shall I cook it in? In 'Feasts for Two,' author Paul Rubinstein helps answer those questions. The first problem you face, he says, is the question of quantities: cooking in small quantities presents difficulties. And here, in menus and recipes, Rubenstein tells the answers. The book is organized by menu -- some formal, some casual, but also very special. The author's advice is reasonable and mistake-proof. And as you read, you'll find that the book is highly practical not just for the romantic occasion, but for anytime you're serving just two. All you need to do is browse through the menus, find the right ones for your occasion, make a list of the ingredients and head for the nearest grocery store! The World's 100 Best Recipes, Roland Goock

Festive Food Decoration For All Occasions
You probably know that fruit and vegetable sculpture can be made for almost any children's party theme. But, according to Festive Food Decoration For All Occasions, you may not realize that adults may also be charmed by the pumpkin coach or turnip kangaroo. Weird and wonderful creatures can emerge from your vegetable bin or fruit basket, made with simple tools such as a paring knife or kitchen shears and held together with toothpicks. Author Sheila Ostrander not only gives step-by-step directions for single items, amusingly illustrated, but devotes a good portion of the book to assembling a series of them as the central motifs for parties. The 1969 hardbound book is arranged alphabetically according to the basic ingredient and is simple to work with. The book and its dust jacket are in Very Good condition with no apparent defects, inside or out!
