Let's be sure not to let the word get out... Who among us has never wondered if there might not really be a tempter sitting on our shoulders or dogging our steps? C.S. Lewis dispels all doubts. In The Screwtape Letters, one of his bestselling works, we are made privy to the instructional correspondence between a senior demon high in the Infernal Civil Service, Screwtape, and his wannabe diabolical nephew Wormwood engaged in his first mission on Earth trying to secure the damnation of a young man who has just become a Christian. As mentor, Screwtape coaches Wormwood in the finer points, tempting his 'patient' away from God. Each letter is a masterpiece of reverse theology, & with Cleese doing the main narrative, we are eternally blessed. 1 With the 3 Cassettes In Their Original Boxes/sleeves & the Original Outer Box may still be available...Just ask us.

With generosity and wisdom, Kushner shows why people are not meant to be perfect, and why we need not fear the loss of God's love when we make mistakes. He reveals how acceptance and forgiveness can change our relationships with the most important people in our lives--and help us to meet the challenge of being human. Harold Kushner's book is for everyone who has experienced guilt, anger, depression, and disappointment when measuring themselves against impossibly high standards. With generosity and wisdom, he shows why people are not meant to be perfect, and why we need not fear the loss of God's love when we make mistakes. He reveals how acceptance and forgiveness can change our relationships with the most important people in our lives--and help us meet the challenge of being human. Height: 7.5 in. Width: 5.0 in. Weight: 6.4 oz. Publisher's Note A book that puts human shortcomings in perspective--and explains how we can better love ourselves and others. From the author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People comes an inspiring new bestseller that puts human feelings of guilt and inadequacy in perspective - and teaches us how we can learn to accept ourselves and others even when we and they are less than perfect. How Good Do We Have to Be? is for everyone who experiences that sense of guilt and disappointment. Harold Kushner, writing with his customary generosity and wisdom, shows us how human life is too complex for anyone to live it without making mistakes, and why we need not fear the loss of God's love when we are less than perfect. Harold Kushner begins by offering a radically new interpretation of the story of Adam and Eve, which he sees as a tale of Paradise Outgrown rather than Paradise Lost: eating from the Tree of Knowledge was not an act of disobedience, but a brave step forward toward becoming human, complete with the richness of work, sexuality and child-rearing, and a sense of our mortality. Drawing on modern literature, psychology, theology, and his own thirty years of experience as a congregational rabbi, Harold Kushner reveals how acceptance and forgiveness can change our relationships with the most important people in our lives and help us meet the bold and rewarding challenge of being human. Industry reviews 'Harold Kushner's new book speaks softly but clearly to a world insanely moralistic and judgmental. If there were a quick fix for our troubled globe, it would be the profoundly tolerant message, teeming with humanity, at the heart of this book.' Advertisement - Thomas Moore 'There is great healing in Harold Kushner's storytelling. He brings new clarity to our acceptance of human imperfections, our belief in our wholeness, the power of love and forgiveness, and our faith that God is always present, loving us totally and unconditionally.' 1888 Bible Study: Hours With The Bible, Moses To Judges
HOURS WITH THE BIBLE, FROM MOSES TO JUDGES; or THE SCRIPTURES IN LIGHT OF MODERN DISCOVERY AND KNOWLEDGE was written by Cunningham Geikie and published in this 1888 edition by John B. Alden, New York. In the book's 314 pages are a lengthy series of chapters dealing with those books of the Bible's Old Testament. Topics include: the land of Goshen; Egypt before the Hebrew sojourn; oppression in Egypt; Moses; the plagues of Egypt; the Tenth Plague and the Exodus; March to Sinai; the Wilderness; Eve of the Conquest; Conquest of Canaan; Time of the Judges; and Gideon to Samson. The information is fascinating - reading much like a descriptive novel, and holding the reader's attention! And illustrations throughout make it even more enjoyable! The book is fully indexed and in Good+ condition, although it shows some signs of its age and use. Leather-edged covers show some scuffs and there is minor edge/corner/spine end wear. The spine itself is missing from the book. A previous owner's bookplate is glued to the wonderful marbled endpapers, with another name handwritten on the following page. The inside pages are clean, crisp, tightly bound and very readable, although they are showing some age-yellowing. It's a good one! (3843) This book is original: NOT a facsimile, copy or reproduction!
GREAT FUNDAMENTALS OF THE BIBLE was written in 1936 and reprinted in this 5th Printing in 1946. Still, the words here could easily have been written today. Consider the Introduction, where the author writes: This generation in which we are now living is witnessing the greatest combination of wonders, dangers, bewildering problems, and unheard-of perplexities that has ever confounded mankind. Only recently the manager of the greatest bank in the world confessed his inability to solve the unnumbered problems or to surmount the increasing mountains of difficulties that confront men in the financial world today. Moreover, the greatest statesmen of the age are baffled and bewildered by the stupendous happenings and the ominous outlook revealed by even a cursory survey of the political world. The one-time cherished bulwark of democracy and freedom is being badly shattered by its deadly impact with powerful world movements which are opposing peace and liberty. The absolute monarchies of bygone days appear upon the modern stage of action in the form of dictators swaying the destinies of millions. Consider, too, the striking picture presented to a startled world by the economic situation, with its confusion in the foreground and its dark, threatening clouds of revolution as a background. The climax to a series of perplexing pictures is surely revealed in the realm of religion. Into this sacred domain there has crept the dark specter of doubt and unbelief, unsettling the very foundations of the church, in the home, and even society itself. Where will it all end? To what do these things point? What is the meaning of it all? Can a solution be found of earth's mighty problems? Is there behind those dark and seemingly impenetrable clouds a glorious silver lining, a cheering sunlight that is soon to burst forth in its celestial glory and forever scatter the gloom of earth's dark night of doubt and despair? Yes, there is a solution in the grand old Book that shone as a glorious lamp upon the pathway of our fathers in ages past contains the answer to the problems of the present. And so, he goes on to show, with Biblical references, how these problems can be solved. The 192-page hardbound book was written by Walter O. Edwards and published by Pacific Press Publishing Association, Mountain View, California. It features numerous black/white illustrations. Condition is Very Good, with very minor corner/spine end wear. Spine is torn slightly at bottom edge. Inside pages, however, have no apparent defects and are clean, crisp and ready to read! (3850)

Deceptions and Myths of the Bible Lloyd M. Graham Is the Holy Bible Holy? Is it The Word of God? Lloyd M. Graham writes that The Bible is from pagan sources. Its Eden, including Adam and Eve, were taken from the Babylonian account; its Flood and Deluge is but an epitome of some four hundred flood accounts; its Ark and Ararat have their equivalents in a score of Deluge myths; even the names of Noah's sons are copies, so also were Isaac's sacrifice, Solomon's judgment, and Samson's pillar act. Moses is fashioned after the Syrian Mises; the laws after Hammurabi's code. These are but a few of the myths he discusses. Bell Publishing Co., 3rd printing, 1979.
