The Lone Star Chapter was formed during the 1985 ACGA National Convention in Overland Park , Kansas . The first meeting was held in Dallas , Texas , on September 28, 1985. Starting with only seventeen members, the chapter roster currently boasts one hundred ninety-five members. As the name Lone Star might suggest, the majority of members hail from Texas . There are, however, members from Oklahoma , Louisiana , Kansas , Florida , South Carolina , New York and Missouri . The Lone Star Chapter has been very active since it was created. The chapter meets four times a year in various locations with one of these meetings being in conjunction with the national convention. Several times the Lone Star Chapter has co-hosted meetings with other chapters of the ACGA. The chapter has been very committed to exposing non-collectors to the beauty of Brilliant American Cut Glass. A five year agreement with the Forsyth Center Galleries housed in the Memorial Student Center on the College Station Campus of Texas A & M University culminated with an exhibit of member’s glass shown at the Broadfield House Museum in England. Several exhibits of spectacular Brilliant American Cut Glass supplied by Lone Star members were also arranged with the Forsyth Center to be displayed as desired. The Lone Star Chapter and the Forsyth Center still work together to further the education and appreciation of cut glass as well as other art forms. In 1993 the Lone Star Chapter members published a 414 page cookbook of 300 recipes and 184 photographs of American Brilliant Cut and Engraved Glass belonging to members of the Lone Star Chapter. A limited edition of 1000 copies was published and sold. There are still requests for the cookbook. The Lone Star Chapter has hosted three ACGA National Conventions. The First was the 1986 National Convention in Dallas, Texas; the second was held in 1995 in San Antonio, Texas; and the third was in 2003 (the 25th anniversary of ACGA) in Dallas, Texas. The Lone Star Chapter also initiated the “Brilliant Weekend”. In January, 1990, the chapter co-hosted the first with the Alhambra Chapter. It was held in the Holiday Inn at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport South. Since that time, it has hosted and co-hosted several more. |
