My husband and I have worked as a team in the theater for 20 years. I am a costumer and run a working costume shop for the University Theater where he is a director and professor. Our life is spent raising four wonderful daughters and producing plays and musicals! Most shows which were time period specific, like the musical "Titanic", had to be researched and duplicated. This brought me in contact with a lot of vintage clothing!
I have decided to turn my love of and interest in vintage clothing and costumes into a business where I could share my own collection and seek out more vintage treasures. In so doing, I hope to get to know people with a similar interests. I have been selling on Ebay for a time and have "met" some great people who feel like I do about things old.
I find so interesting the clothing and accessories that people loved and wore from other periods of time. I love discovering their secrets of design for complimenting the body's shape and am always delighted by their embellishments. As a director, my husband always asked for costumes to be "clothing"--made for an individual who wore his clothing in a particular way. By doing this for him, I developed an eye for seeing how people made their garments their own! This is the human touch--how a woman wore her dress--did she add a brooch or tuck a hankie in her belt? Did she put mends in that favorite dress to make it last longer because of the economic conditions of her life or the state of the country? Did he have a watch (perhaps his father's?) that wore the watch pocket edge in that vest? To me, many "flaws" are not negatives. This is the life of the garment. Owning vintage clothing to me is like owning a little piece of personal and national history!
I have tried to offer a wide range of interesting and useful things to be used and worn in daily life or for costuming your theatrical production. I promise to scour my little part of the world to find surprises for you! Check often to see what I have found! I hope you enjoy browsing our pages and find some "little piece of history" for your collection!
