Pair of cannonballs discovered by a collector in Lewes, Delaware. Each cannonball weighs approximately 48 lbs., and each one measures about 8 inches in diameter ( appr. 25 inches in circumference).
Believed to date back to the War of 1812, when British naval vessels staged a brief bombardment of Lewes, Delaware, on April 5 and 6, 1813, under the command of Captain Sir John Poo Beresford.
To this day a cannonball fired from the vessels in lodged in the foundation of Cannonball House, which serves as Lewes' maritime museum.
No reasonable offer refused.
Item being sold to raise funds for a $7,000.00 Paradigm insulin pump and other medical expenses and of our senior pastor who is suffering diabetic blindness in his left eye. The Lewes area is a favorite visiting for him in his recovery. A full blooded Norwegian who speaks Swedish, has often enjoyed touring the tall ship Kalmar Nyckel, which sailed from Sweden to the New World in 1638 to establish the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley, the Colony of New Sweden in present-day Wilmington
Our fundraising needs also now include the replacement of our mission chapel in Pennsylvania, destroyed in a fire on Sept. 22, 2008. The press release is available for viewing in this store's 'links' section at the bottom of the store's home page. We are also seeking to fund the establishment of a new center of retreat and recovery for our disabled ministers, which will cost $3,300.00/month |
