Manufacturer: Imperial Glass
Nifty find out of a home, a 2 piece duck on nest or duck on basket made by Imperial Glass in the white or milk glass color. These ducks on nest were made as an alternative version of the original, popular hen on nest pieces.
Top piece is the fully molded sitting or swimming duck, with terrific feather detail. This fits into the top of the bottom piece which has an outer cross hatch and basket weave pattern. The underside of the top duck piece shows the clear, raised, formed in mold "IG" signature for Imperial Glass. On the interior of the bottom basket piece, if you look at an angle in very bright light, you can see part of this signature also appears here, but it is not fully or clearly formed on this piece (as can happen in manufacture).
Imperial Glass began using this interlocked "IG" trademark in 1968, so this piece would not have been made prior to that time. The company closed its doors in 1984, so this would have been produced between those two dates.
Together these two pieces sit about 4 inches tall, 4 1/2 inches greatest length, and 3 1/4 inches in width. They are solid white or milk glass color, with much molded detail, including a small beaded edge rimming the top of the bottom basket piece. These glass pieces weigh about 12 ounces unpacked and will need to ship in a box via USPS Priority Mail at over one pound packed weight.
We've provided 8 images, showing different angles of the two pieces together and separately. There are two images of the manufacturer mark, as seen on each of the top and bottom pieces. We've also provided some images with the camera light turned off. The camera light creates white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth glass surface and can hide the appearance of the molded detail. This can be seen better without the camera light, although that also makes these pieces appear dark and not the bright, clean white color which you will see in person.
Wonderful overall vintage condition. We see one minor flaw, a very tiny chip the size of one of the beads on the top rim of the bottom basket piece. This is very easy to miss as it is the shape of one small bead, and we found this by feel. We don't think anyone will notice this, and you could turn this side towards the back or wall when on display, but you should know this is there. Otherwise these pieces are in great shape. They may have some tiny scratches or other expected age wear that isn't jumping out at us, but there is nothing to worry about here.
A neat addition to any collection of these animal on nest pieces, a grouping of duck collectibles in general, or a collection related specifically to Imperial Glass. |
