rowe001

J Randy Rowe watercolor of champion dog Pantagleize 1973 This watercolor, signed lower left, by the world famous disabled artist, J Randy Rowe was painted 1973. penciled on reverse is [Pantagleize 1973, owner, Alvin Nitchman, Cranberry, NJ]
Franke's Custom Framing lable attached.

Research swows an article in 4/18/1960 Sports Illustrated mentions Dr Alvin Nitchman, Cranberry, NJ showed up the proffessionals at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA,pointer & setter Club trials when his pet Magnum won the $1500 all age stakes.
Surely this painting was commissioned to capture another of his loved pets and winning dogs.
Much information about J Randy Rowe can be found on SCOUTERS PAGE, where the following was copied from;

Randy Rowe couldn't walk across your living room without help, but everyone he touched is far better off because Randy quietly brushed by. And, although he's gone now, his memory and his art remain to inspire us."

In 1968 when originally commissioned to do a cigarstore Indian, he rejected the stiff image of the adorned and phony native and carved "Blue Nose," replica of a Delaware Indian. "Blue Nose," is now part of the permanent collection of the Reading Public Museum & Art Gallery, Reading, PA.

His works have been exhibited in the William Penn Memorial Museum in Harrisburg, the Atlantic Flyway Waterfowl Carving & Arts Exhibition in Salisbury, Maryland and the Third Biennial American Bird Carving Exhibition in Chestertown, MD.

During May of 1970 his works were displayed in a one man show at the Berks County Historical Society, and at the William Penn Memorial Museum in Harrisburg in 1971.

His carved Bald Eagle is the official emblem of the National Rifle Association, Washington, D.C

I personally met Randy in the mid 70's and he left a profound impression on me and my wife. His love of nature, wildlife and art deeply influenced our lives.

Click for more detail...
greo001

Weller Greora vase artist signed experimental? This Art Deco influenced shape vase has 8 sides toped with 4 lobes which were hand formed downward, the glaze is the usual red/brown upper body with the deep mottled green Coppertone color glaze on the lower area along withit dripping down the outer edges of each rib giving a subtle green over the red/brown. The base covered with the same crackled cream glaze found on Coppertone examples with a light green squiggle and a dark under glaze mark HP. conjoined. This mark was used by Hester Pillsbury during her long stay with Weller. Artist marked pieces of molded wares are quite rare and this was probably an experimental shape and glaze technique which would help explain the signature.
The vase is free of imperfections except a 1/
8inch dia burst bubble in glaze[see image] Glaze dripping down the ribs has created deep dripping ares which are quite aestheticly pleasing. This piece was recently discovered in Southeastern PA.
Circa: 1930

baden001

10k locket w/Baden-Powell & Queen Victoria picts pictured in his scout uniform circa 1900, Queen pictured w/crown, gold frame and chain 10 or 14k

Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell (pronounced /ˈbeɪdən ˈpoʊəl/) OM, GCMG, GCVO, KCB (22 February 1857 – 8 January 1941), also known as B-P or Lord Baden-Powell, was a lieutenant-general in the British Army, writer, and founder of the Scout Movement.

After having been educated at Charterhouse School, Baden-Powell served in the British Army from 1876 until 1910 in India and Africa. In 1899, during the Second Boer War in South Africa, Baden-Powell successfully defended the city in the Siege of Mafeking. Several of his military books, written for military reconnaissance and scout training in his African years, were also read by boys. Based on those earlier books, he wrote Scouting for Boys, published in 1908 by Pearson, for youth readership. During writing, he tested his ideas through a camping trip on Brownsea Island with the local Boys' Brigade and sons of his friends that began on 1 August 1907, which is now seen as the beginning of Scouting.

After his marriage to Olave St Clair Soames, Baden-Powell, his sister Agnes Baden-Powell and notably his wife actively gave guidance to the Scouting Movement and the Girl Guides Movement. Baden-Powell lived his last years in Nyeri, Kenya, where he died and was buried in 1941.

A rare piece of scouting from Britian in the formative years.
