The Complete Guide to Stamps & Stamp Collecting: The Ultimate Illustrated Reference by: James MacKay Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This is the ultimate guide to getting the most out of the world's most popular hobby, with countless examples of rare, vivid and historical stamps spanning almost two centuries, plus advice on price and guidance about acquisition. An in-depth introduction traces the evolution of the postal services, from the Roman mail coaches rushing to the forefront of fighting to souvenir Zeppelin issues, and the advent of rail, boat and air as methods of mass delivery. The book dissects the modern-day adhesive stamp, to help collectors understand the value of their own collection and the importance of preserving stamps. Different methods of collecting, and the practical aspects of building and maintaining a collection, are covered in detail. There are also step-by-step instructions on how to retain the quality of stamps while mounting them for display, and guidance on entering the stamp buyer's marketplace, whether attending exhibitions and stamp fairs, or using an on-line auction site. A global directory of stamps from more than 200 countries will inspire readers to collect their own. Read some of the fascinating stories behind the world's most sought-after stamps, from the famous commemoratives of American presidents to issues from some of the most remotest post offices in the world. Stamps trace the character and history of the country from which they originate, and this encyclopedic visual directory, with 3000 images, is a valuable record of some of the most interesting, beautiful and bizarre examples ever created.

CHA-2007-0889683298-X2

Canadian Merchant Scrip by: RJ Graham Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This book fills a need that has long been felt in the paper money collecting community. The last priced listing of merchant scrip was a 47-page section at the back of The Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Paper Money, published in 1980. Needless to say, the prices found there have been hopelessly out of date for a very long time. Not only are the values finally being brought up to date, but the information provided will be much more comprehensive, taking the book far beyond being a mere price list. The format of the book will be familiar to users of Charltons Canadian Bank Notes. A historical introduction is given for each issuer, wherever possible, and note descriptions follow, including designs, colours, dimensions, dates, imprints and signatures. Each note and variety is identified by a catalogue number, and the numbering system is again derived from that used in Canadian Bank Notes. Representative illustrations are included. Finally, notes are priced in up to six grades based on data provided by a number of leading collectors and dealers.

Canadian Colonial Tokens, 8th Ed (Charlton Press) by: WK Cross Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The eighth edition of the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Colonial Tokens is now available from coin dealers, bookstores or the Charlton Press. Token issues which entered circulation in Canada up to Confederation in 1867 will be found in this catalogue. In colonial times there was a chronic shortage of coinage to support commerce. Provincial governments, chartered banks, merchants and tippling blacksmiths all contributed to a vast array of tokens which circulated in the absence of official copper coinage. Tokens are described in detail, with composition, weight, diameter, die axis, edge and date of issue information. Enlarged illustrations assist the collector in assigning the catalogue number to each token. In the case of particularly complicated issues, flow charts will easily guide the user to the correct identification. The Charlton numbering system is cross referenced to earlier systems devised by Breton, Courteau, Lees, LeRoux, McLachlan, Wood and Willey. Batty, Breton and LeRoux rarity numbers are also included. Several newly discovered pieces have been listed in the eighth edition, including a rare bouquet sou mule and new varieties of blacksmith tokens. Many images have been added to assist in identification, and some of the descriptions have been revised. An image of the elusive NB-5, the St. John's N.B. piece, is shown for the first time. The listing of Devins & Bolton counterstamped pieces has been enlarged, and catalogue numbers assigned. Likewise, the Anchor Money listings have been reworked and catalogue numbers supplied, with several new photographs. Merchant and transportation tokens and patterns at the back of the book have been given catalogue numbers. The Hunterstown piece is now priced, together with a number of other extremely rare tokens which formerly lacked specific valuations. All prices have been carefully reviewed, and many have increased sharply. Rare and popular pieces such as the Prince Edward Island Holey Dollar and Plug, the Bank of Montreal Side View pieces, the Vexators, the Jamaica on Cask and the Bridge tokens have all experienced strong upward revisions. The Rebellion Sou, hardly as rare but certainly popular, has become more expensive, and a Wellington token, W E - 1 1 C 1, has been a top performer in percentage terms. Some inevitable downward adjustments have made the lovely New Brunswick penny tokens more affordable; price declines also affect the Magdalen Islands penny in mid-grades, the Wellington penny W E - 1 2 in most grades, the Irishman with Shillelagh and the 1781 North American tokens. For the beginner with a few colonial pieces, as for the advanced collector, the "Charlton Standard" remains the indispensable resource catalogue.

CHA-2012-9780889683532-X1

Canadian Government Paper Money, 25th Ed 2013 by: R.J. Graham Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The latest version of this popular catalogue includes a new section for the Bank of Canada's polymer notes, and the grading guide at the front of the book has been expanded to include grading standards for polymer. Prefix and changeover information has been brought completely up to date. Valuable note census information records the latest findings, and a new "tip for collectors" analyses Newfoundland Treasury Notes of 1920 with results that the publisher hopes will be useful and informative. The expert pricing panel worked very hard to follow what has been a largely directionless and subdued market. Reports received from both ends of the country indicate, however, that a firming trend has been in evidence since the late winter of 2012. With price changes in this edition firming, a market bottom is building for the next up-cycle. Where positive and negative sentiment is balanced, prices have usually been left unchanged. There are a number of instances of prices increasing at either the low or high end of the grading scale, with a little softening in the middle, reflecting the preferences of today's market-makers. There have been instances of significant price advances, though. These include most of the Specimen notes, as well as the 1923 $2 Dominion Notes in top grades, following several recent sales at record-smashing prices. The rarity of several replacement notes, on many want lists but hardly ever available on the market, is gradually becoming recognized, resulting in substantial price increases. Among the more recent Bank of Canada notes, there have been more changes seen in the Journey notes than in the Multicoloured and Birds issues, and there increases outnumber downward revisions. The use of full colour images, introduced in the last edition, continues. This innovation, warmly welcomed by the collecting fraternity, has been widely credited with helping to attract new participants to the hobby.

CHA-2012-9780889683549-X1

Canadian Coins, Vol 1 - Numismatic Issues 2013, 67th Edition by: W.K. Cross, Jean Dale Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The 67th edition Canadian Coins, Volume One, includes all coins which have been used as circulating legal tender in Canada from 1858 to 2012. It is the fourth catalogue published based solely on Canada's circulating coinage (business strike). Over one hundred and fifty years of Canadian coins are listed, illustrated and priced. More than one hundred different varieties, throughout the seven denominations, are illustrated with macro images for ease of identification. The Silver Dollar Variety Section of the 66th edition has been replaced in the 67th edition with a new section on the Nickel Dollar Varieties of 1968-1987. Over a span of 20 years this series produced over twenty double die varieties, the greatest number currently recorded for any series. A total of 83 varieties are illustrated, plus many more when you include the different finishes. This is the first time the four finishes (circulation, brilliant uncirculated [PL], specimen, and proof) have been specifically listed as part of the variety designation. As in past editions some of the more interesting varieties of the previously featured denomination (silver dollars) have been moved forward to the main section of the book. This year four new polishing varieties, 1975 (1), 1976 (1) and 1977 (2), have been added to the basic listings. A completely revised Test Token Section is included in the 67th edition. This is one of the more difficult categories in which to gather information, and it was only through two old collections becoming available that this revision was possible. Included in the Test Token Section are Concept Test Tokens, now expanded to 17 different varieties. Naturally, all prices in the 67th edition have been revised and all listings expanded to accommodate the new issues. Prices across the board for all lower grade silver and gold coins are now supported by the rising tide of the precious metals market.

Canadian Coins Vol 2: Collector & Maple Leaf Issues, 4th Ed, 2014 by: W.K. Cross NOTE: This is pre-order for a new release. This book is expected to be available for shipment in late May. Date subject to change at publisher's discretion. Please do not combine it with other purchases as this will delay shipping of those titles that we do actually have in stock. Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The fourth edition of Canadian Coins, Volume 2, Collector and Maple Leaf Issues will be released May 31st, 2013, at the Toronto Coin Expo which will be held at the Toronto Reference Library. The new 464-page fourth edition is current to March 2013, with all new Mint issues. This 4-colour catalogue tracks all Mint and maple leaf issues from 1954 to the current releases. A 16% increase in the page count from 400 in the third edition to 464 in the fourth was necessary to keep up with the more than 150 new issue (2012 and 2013) coins released by the Royal Canadian Mint. In keeping with the new issues over 150 full colour images have been added in the fourth edition. All prices, specifications, designers' and engravers' information has been updated, affording the collector the opportunity to keep fully abreast of the current trend in NCLT and maple leaf issues. A new series "$20 for $20" was introduced in 2011. The Five Maple Leaves was the first in this series of pure silver coins. The ninth coin in the series The Wolf was released in March 2013. The first 1½oz pure silver coin (The Polar Bear) was released in 2013, possibly opening the way for a new series of bullion coins based on our Proud Polar Bear. Five new issues have been added to the silver kilo coin series, bringing the total to 15 coins. These coins have a face value of $250, and contain over 32 troy ounces of fine silver. More and more proof sets, 1997-2011, are being broken up and the coins sold singly. From 1996 the 5-, 10-, 25-, and 50-cent coins were struck on sterling silver planchets. Pricing tables have been established for the 5-cent through 50-cent proof sterling silver coins. Previously, they were listed in Volume One pricing tables, but due to their different composition (neither nickel nor multiply plated steel) they are distinct varieties in their own right and should not be grouped with CLT coinage. A new section has been introduced on the Commemorative Canadian Coin, Token, or Medal Sets sold at the major coins shows held in Germany, Canada, the USA, and China. These sets are interesting from the standpoint that they contain a special medallion domiciled to the coin show at which they were introduced. The fourth edition is a definite must for the collector tracking mint and bullion issues. Canadian Coins, Volume Two, Collector and Maple Leaf Issues can be purchased from Numismatics Dealers, Bookstores, online Bookstores or directly from the publisher.

We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Don't make the mistake of thinking only millionaires or swashbuckling maverick archaeologists can own a National Treasure. A National Treasure can simply be an artifact that played a significant role in the founding and growth our nation. Our nation's first coins are such treasures. Not all such pieces reside in the Smithsonian or other museums. The staggering fact is this: anyone with $5 to $25 to spare can pick up a coin or token worthy of National Treasure status! Anyone can own genuine pieces of history with documented ties to the 15th century voyages of Christopher Columbus; to the 16th century Spanish forts of Florida; to Roanoke Island's Lost Colony; to our nation's first permanent settlement at Jamestown; to the 1692 Salem Witch Trials; to Independence Hall where the Declaration Of Independence was signed in 1776! This book tells how such coins can be found, and how affordable they are likely to be! And even more amazingly, why they continue to be overlooked today!

Scottish Transport Tokens by: Ronnie Breingan Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: Tokens were used instead of tickets or cash for travel in 19th century Scotland. This reference helps collectors identify these tokens. Publishers Description: Most transport tokens in Scotland were introduced in the middle of the 19th century, but until recent years they did not attract many collectors. The collecting and study of tokens has now very much become a branch of numismatics. The early tokens were usually struck in brass, copper or bronze, but as we moved into the 20th century celluloid ones were introduced. From celluloid, various forms of plastic and fiber have been used as well as various metals, and this has continued right up to the present day. Tokens were in fact the tickets of their time. Paper tickets did not come into use until about the 1880s and in Glasgow on the tramways from the late 1870s. By selling a number of tokens, transport firms were assured of the custom of these passengers. This also saved the conductor--or guard as he was sometimes called--from handling cash and was thus also a security precaution.
