8584

Boxed WMF Modernist Silverplate Double Candlestick This WMF Germany Modernist double candle holder is attributed to the Bauhaus industrial designer Wilhelm Wagenfeld. It comes in its original box with two unused, still wrapped ivory colored taper candles. The silverplated candlestick has a brushed and swirled pearlized finish with removable candle cups and is 12-5/8" long by 2-3/4" high.

The candle holder is marked "WMF E.P. Brass Germany". The box is marked only WMF-Leuchter 4889 and WMF Tafelgerat. I would assume from the design that it's from the 1950s but since there is no West or Western designation to the hallmark, it may have been produced before the post-war division of Germany. The candlestick is in excellent condition with no damage or wear, probably never used. The box condition is only fair, with a split lid corner, scuffs, a stain on one end, and tape across the center top and sides.

Circa: 1939 - 1950

Click for more detail...

12165

Poole Bristol Silverplate 5 Piece Coffee Tea Service This beautiful silver plated coffee and tea service set was made by Poole Silver of Taunton Massachusetts: tray, coffee pot, teapot, creamer, and covered sugar. The elegant pattern features sweeping leaf motifs applied to the handles and spouts, ornate feet and finials, and nicely scalloped rims.

I'm not sure of the production date but I'm making an educated guess of 1940s based on the marriage date of the original owners - their daughter thought it might have been a wedding gift. I can't find the pattern name either, the pieces are all marked EPCA Bristol Silverplate by Poole (Bristol is not the pattern name).

The massive 4-footed tray is 26-1/2 by 18-3/4 inches including handles. It has an engraved design in the center and ornate trim. The coffee pot is 10-1/2 inches high to the top of the finial, 9-1/4 inches wide from handle to spout. The set is polished to a nice shine, the interiors of the pots and creamer are clean with no corrosion or pitting. The tray has typical faint, light scratch marks from contact with the other pieces, nothing noticeable. The only issue is a secure soldered repair to one of the handles on the creamer (see the next-to-last photo). The creamer has a few tiny pinpoint specks of what appears to be solder in the area of the repair. There are no dents, dings, pitting, or noticeable scratches other than to the center of the tray as described above.

12280

Antique Sterling Silver Mesh Small Purse This early 1900s sterling chain mesh purse is fairly small at 4 by 4 inches, perhaps a coin purse. It's rather plain but in excellent condition with no detached, broken, or missing chains. The inside of the frame is marked "Brock and Feagan, Sterling, Los Angeles" on one side. The other side is engraved with the original owner's name, N. Devendorf. There is no chain strap. Weight 68 grams, 2.4 ounces.

Click for more detail...

11789

Wm Rogers Silverplate 9 Inch Water Pitcher This elegant Wm Roger silverplated water pitcher is numbered 817 but doesn't have a pattern name that I can find. It probably dates to the Mid Century. It's 9 inches high by 8 inches wide from spout to handle and looks like holds 2 quarts. An ice catcher or ice lip is built into the opening next to the pour spout. It's been polished to a high shine but if you look closely at the photos, you'll see I missed a couple of small spots - one at the rim, near the handles, and at the base just above the feet. The interior could use more polishing as well. There is no plate loss and no scratches or dings, just some tiny, hair-fine marks to the finish that come from cleaning and light use. Original green and silver foil label is intact on the bottom. One of the legs is marked Wm Rogers 817.

Yellowstone Great Falls Sterling Silver Souvenir Spoon An early 1920s sterling silver souvenir spoon depicting the Great Falls of Yellowstone National Park. The 4" spoon has a cutout at the handle tip and an embossed scene of the majestic waterfalls. Great Falls is embossed below and Yellowstone Park is lettered horizontally down the handle. The back has a Charles M. Robbins maker's mark and the word Sterling. Very faint, minor marks to the bowl, otherwise excellent condition - considerably better than the poor quality pictures.

Click for more detail...

12195

WMF Ikora Silverplate Reticulated Enamel Footed Bowl This attractive footed bowl or dish was part of the Ikora line by WMF, in production from the 1920s to 1960s. It measures 8 inches diameter and stands about 1-1/2 inches high on four ball feet. The gently ruffled rim is reticulated with incised scroll work. The center is a hexagonal shape with concave sides finished in a pearly marbled ivory enamel. The pinkish color appears to be some type of tarnish or oxidation effect to the protective finish - it can easily be removed with silver polish but I left it alone. The underside is marked with a castle or clock tower logo and WMF Ikora Germany Silverplate. There's also a foil label reading Tarnish Resistant WMF Ikora and the stock number 6401. In excellent condition but does need polishing.

9191

Massive Oneida Silverplate Meat Platter A handsome vintage silverplate meat platter by Oneida Ltd. USA in an extra large size - 21-3/4 by 16 inches. A normal size coffee mug is in the first photo to show scale. The plain, undecorated rim will go with any silver or dinnerware service. The center has a well and tree design, to either side are open wells for holding the carved meat or vegetables. There are some minor, light surface scratches to the lower part of the tree area, nothing deep or serious. The platter has no dents or dings and no plate loss.

Click for more detail...

11851

Embossed Flowers Fruit Silverplate Pedestal Bowl Compote A small silverplated comport or footed bowl embossed with an ornate flowers and strawberries design in high relief. It's oval shaped, 5-1/4 by 4 inches by about 3 inches high. Unmarked, it's fairly heavy and shiny. It came to me quite tarnished, which cleaned right up after polishing, otherwise I might have assumed it was chrome plated. I missed two small spots under the bowl just above the pedestal, otherwise the bowl is in excellent condition.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 12088: Crowned Madonna and Child Religious Catholic Icon or Shrine

Click for more detail...

12088

Crowned Madonna and Child Religious Catholic Icon or Shrine I'm not up on my Catholic terminology, but this appears to be a Catholic icon or tabletop shrine, about 3-1/2 inches high and wide. The base and octagonal mount are wood, covered in a marbled French Ivory or celluloid laminate. In the center of the octagon is a metal disc (silverplate I believe) with the Virgin Mary and Christ Child embossed in high relief, both wearing crowns. Their halos are inscribed with Latin writing. There's what appears to be a signature at the far right edge of the disc, I think it says Nusburger, or possibly Ausburger.

This is an estate item and I'm unsure of the country of origin or age, though I'm sure it's not contemporary. There is of course patina to the embossed disc, otherwise good condition.

Circa: 1930s

Click for more detail...

9925

Sterling Silver and Abalone Inlay Cross Pendants With Mother of Pearl Heart Rather than break these four items up, I thought it would be nice to sell them just as I found them, tucked inside an old black leatherette covered hinged metal jewelry gift box. There are two cross pendants, each 1-1/2 inches high. One has engraved lines with a sunburst circle at the center and is marked Sterling on the back. The other is inlaid with abalone shell and is marked Mexico on the back. I'm not sure if it's sterling or Alpaca but there is no tarnish.

There's a third pendant, a dainty Mother of Pearl heart, 5/8 inches diameter. The fourth item found in the box is a brass trolley transit token. One side says "Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company Full Fare", the other reads "Tri-City Lines Full Fare".
