1960s Rubens Lady In White With Bird Figural Planter A beautiful, very well made figural lady planter by Rubens Originals from the 1960s. She's 6-3/8 inches high, wearing a gold-trimmed matte-finish white Southern Belle style long flouncy dress with embossed flowers and matching sunbonnet. She holds a closed parasol in one hand, her other hand is raised and holding a little white bird. Her hand painted face is tilted slightly with eyes looking upward, her red cupid's bow mouth has the hint of a smile.

Silk African violet flowers fill the planter section in the back. The underside has a red and gold foil label reading Rubens Originals© Los Angeles Made in Japan, and there is an impressed logo with the stock number 474M. The planter is in perfect condition with no damage or wear.

She's 6 inches tall and still has her foil sticker on the underside reading Wales, Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. Made in Japan. There is a little bit of wear to the bottom edge of the pink netting over the lace, otherwise the figurine is in excellent condition with no damage.

Holt Howard Ermine Spaghetti Angels Christmas Candle Holders Set A pair of sweet ceramic Christmas angel candlesticks, made by Holt Howard in 1958. About 4-1/2 inches high, the angels were called Ermine Angels by the company due to the lavish gold-trimmed spaghetti fur trim on their hoods, cuffs, and coats. One angel has her hands warming in a muff, the other holds a pair of red Christmas bells. Both have slightly bowed heads, rosy cheeks, and closed eyes with lush painted eyelashes.

Behind each angel is a beribboned gift box to hold a taper candle. Both are marked underneath "©1958 Holt Howard". No chips or damage other than a paint scratch to the red bells.

8179

Flower Girl Pink and Blue Angel Figurine 1940s Japan An adorable little 1940s flower girl angel figurine from Japan, 3 inches high. She's wearing a ruffled blue dress with spaghetti-type trim and carries a basket of applied pink porcelain roses or flowers, holding out one flower in her extended hand, with more at her feet. She has little gold-tipped wings and blue forget-me-not flowers in her long wavy platinum hair. Big hand painted black eyes and wide pink lips in a demure smile add to her old fashioned charm.

There's a dab of visible clear glue at the base of the pink flower in the angel's hand, I can't tell if it's an expert repair or was made that way. Otherwise the figurine is perfect. The underside is stamped "Flower Girl" in ink and has a paper Japan label.

6488

Pair Japan Redware Alligator Figurines Two 1940s to 1950s alligator or crocodile figurines, made in Japan from red clay pottery or redware. They're 5-3/4" long with hand painted yellow and white eyes, red lipped open jaws and white teeth. They have the typical brown high-gloss glaze that is hard to photograph without lots of light reflections. The alligators are marked Japan on the undersides and have stamped ink prices of 10 cents. There's some very slight wear to the cold paint around the eye areas, otherwise excellent condition. Price is for the pair.

3547

Figural Putti Cherubs Planter Vase with Applied Porcelain Roses Two sweet putti or cherubs with heads touching adorn this tree vase or planter, studded with applied spaghetti moss and red and yellow flowers. A large applied porcelain rose decorated the front. It's 4-1/2" high by 4-1/2" wide, marked "Made in Japan" on the underside.

The large rose petals have two small chips and some cold paint loss. The light reflections make the chips appear much more noticeable in the photo than they really are. Otherwise the vase is in very good condition, and still very displayable.

5796

1950s Hors d'Oeuvres Serving Plate with Fruit Decoration This 1950s ceramic serving platter has five sections for hors d'oeuvres or snacks. The center piece is in the shape of a colorful fruit basket, raised with holes to insert toothpicks. It rotates on a wooden plug but is not removable. The tray or plate is 10-1/4" diameter and has a basketweave pattern with raised fruit and flowers. The underside is marked 53/387A. An oval foil label is also present but it's no longer readable as the lettering has faded. The numbering system and the shape of the label strongly suggest Napco to me. The plate is in very good vintage condition with very slight crazing, no chips or flakes. There are three or four tiny dark paint flecks under the glaze, and there is wear to the red cold painted strawberries on the raised center piece.

10966

Napcoware Retro 60s Cute Tiger Coin Bank Neon orange and pink were a favorite color combination when I was a girl in the 1960s. Now that color combination is nostalgically retro. This is a vividly colorful Napco hollow chalkware or plaster composition coin bank depicting a friendly looking tiger amid jungle leaves, looking up at the pink bird atop his head. The bank is about 6-3/4 inches high by 5-3/4" wide. The rubber stopper is present, the only wear is a scratch to the back at the tip of the bird's tail feather. A foil Napcoware Import Japan is on the underside along with the stock number M-8964.

11309

Set 3 Ceramic Musical Cherub Angel Figurines 1950s Japan This set of three 1950s Japan porcelain ceramic angel or cherub style figures are so cute, modeled in action poses, each with a different musical instrument. Their faces are a bit androgynous, but it looks to me like two are girls and one is a boy (you may disagree and think they're all boys). The children are about 3-3/4 inches high and do not have wings, though they look like angels in every other respect with their long white gowns trimmed with stamped gold flowers.

They are marked Japan in red ink on the bottoms. One has an F.W. Woolworth Co. price tag on the lower side back of her gown. The angels are clean and have no damage or crazing. Ideal for display at Christmas time or year round.

11284

Batlin Jack And Beanstalk Pixie Ceramic Salt Pepper Shakers This cute pair of vintage majolica-type ceramic salt and pepper shakers depicts green suited elves or pixies holding big light green balls between their legs. They are part of the Jack and the Beanstalk line of figural pottery kitchenware made in Japan in the 1930s and 1940s for L. Batlin & Sons, a New York giftware importer.

The shakers are 2-3/4" high by 3 inches long and have their cork stoppers. Each shaker is marked Japan with a copyright symbol on the left side below the bend of the elves' knees. No chips, cracks, or flakes but there is mild crazing to the glaze of the lighter colored areas. All those white spots in the pictures are simply glare and reflections, they are spotlessly clean with no damage.

Click for more detail...

7407

Ceramic Bell Figurine, Girl Cook or Butcher With Goose This amusing and perhaps slightly shocking 1950s bell figurine is a girl in a cook's or chef hat and dress. She holds an upside down goose in one hand, the other is hidden beneath her apron. With that side-glancing, determined look on her hand painted face, one could only imagine what's in her other hand - a butcher knife maybe?

The bell is about 4-1/2" high. It's in excellent condition with ceramic wired clapper intact, no chips or flakes. The applied pink rose and green leaves on the apron bodice have no damage, the girl's facial features are well painted, and there is little wear to the gold trim. The underside is marked with a black letter N in a circle, which I believe is a 1950s early Norcrest Japan mark.

Pre-1920s Japan Hand Painted Floral Serving Plate This antique hand painted 10" floral plate isn't marked but I believe it was made in Japan prior to the 1920s. It has hand painted colorful flowers and an embossed orange-red rim with gold trim and raised moriage treatment on some of the flowers. The only marking is a raised 4-pointed star at the center underside, which is actually a firing support mark. It's a pretty plate for use or display and has no damage and little if any wear.

Enesco Sleeping Angel in Clouds Figural Planter This sweet figural ceramic planter by Enesco features a barefoot baby angel holding a mandolin, asleep on a bed of clouds. I'm not sure if it's a girl or boy angel - the hair is boyish but the gown is a peachy pink color. The angel has a gold halo, gold trimmed mandolin and wings, and there are gold stars decorating the cloud planter. The planter is in excellent condition with no chips, flakes, water or soil stains, or other damage. It stands a little over 4" high by 4" wide. 9650

Lipstick Lady Figural Ceramic Vanity Lipstick Holder This lovely Southern Belle or Colonial style lady figurine typically sat on a lady's vanity and held tubes of lipstick at the base of her dress. The figurine is 6 inches high, wearing a long yellow dress with polka dots and a rust colored fading to white bodice with peplum. Her brunette hair is in a ponytail and her extended hands are raised below her neck.

The original label is missing but the book Kitchen, Bath & Beyond shows this same lipstick lady identified as being made by Commodore of Japan. There is an underglaze manufacturing flaw at the upper rim of one lipstick loop. The pottery has a scratch or rub mark in this area that is glazed over. The edge of one hand has a tiny fleabite chip along the little finger.

Lefton Heavenly Rose Pedestal Comport or Bon Bon Plate This pretty hand painted pedestal plate or dish is in the Heavenly Rose pattern by Lefton, with sprays of pink roses and a pale blue scalloped rim instead of the typical pink. It's 3-5/8" tall by 7-3/8" diameter.

The plate and stand are in excellent condition with no damage or wear other than some minor loss to the gold gilt trim at the rim. The thin cork liner between the underside of the plate and the stand crumbled when I tried to clean it however. Marked with the crown logo and "Lefton China, Hand Painted, Reg. U.S. Pat. Napco Christmas Angel Shopper Girl Planter Vase Figurine This Napco 1950s spaghetti angel planter is a shopper girl wearing a hooded red cape and loaded down with Christmas presents and a holly wreath. There's a little soiling in the bottom edges of the planter opening and very light, faint crazing to the white gifts and face. 3744

2 Napco Gold Pixie Elf Night Lights Unused in Original Boxes These cute retro 1960s ceramic pixie elf nite lite lamps come in their original boxes with original tissue wrappings, never used except to test the lights. Just 4" tall, they have amber glass eyes and red glass medallions on their chests that glow when the light is turned on. The backs have a gold and red foil sticker on the back that read Napcoware Import Japan. There's an on/off switch mounted on the cord.

The lamps have never been used, but the cold paint used on the pixies' faces has started to flake from age and storage, exposing the glazed pottery underneath. You can see this clearly in the pictures. Both lamps for one price.

Nasco English Village Transferware Jam Jar with Silverplate Spoon This jam or jelly jar with fastand or attached underplate is in the hand tinted English Village transferware pattern by Nasco Japan. It's 5-1/4" high to the lid knob, the diameter of the underplate is 5-3/4". There is some crazing but no chips, flakes, or cracks.

The jar comes with a pre-1930s silverplate serving spoon, 6" long. I don't know the pattern name or even the maker - the word before "plate" on the back markings has been crosshatched out. The spoon is in good condition with no plate loss.

Circa: 1930s

Manufacturer: Nasco
