Rest assured that after years of buying, selling, and collecting vintage ornaments, I have learned how to pack them safely. I know how heartbreaking it can be to hear that awful tinkling when your package arrives and find nothing but shards inside. Your purchases will be carefully packed with no skimping on materials to survive just about any drop, kick or fall the postal service can dish out.

15 Figural West German Glass Christmas Ornaments Fifteen nice figural silvered glass Christmas ornaments from mostly West Germany, produced in the 1960s and 1970s. In the second photo are a red Santa boot, a cottage, a blue car or automobile, and a gold clip-on bird with spun glass tail.

Shown in the second picture are four organics: 3-1/2 inch gold pine cone, ear of corn, and two 3 inch berry ornaments in gold and red with white mica at the tops.

Next are three figures: gold teddy bear, 4 inch begging dog, and a Santa Claus holding a pine tree.

In the last picture are a basket of fruit, a stylized bumpy organic or nut shape with three indents down the center front and back, a red spiral twist drop with Venetian Dew glitter (this ornament is actually marked Czechoslovakia on the cap), and a 2 inch mushroom with a thumbprint indent in the stem.

These ornaments are all in great condition with no damage and little if any wear. Two of the metal caps are replacements, added because they were found without caps.

12343

Pair 12 Inch Mercury Glass Candles for Floral, Christmas Arrangements These silvered blown mercury glass candles were made from the 1930s (perhaps earlier) to around 1950. They were typically used in Christmas floral arrangements, but can also be displayed in your favorite candlesticks year round.

The two candles are 12 inches long. They have their original cork stoppers and red painted crimped flame tips. Black rubber rings at the bottom help hold the candles in place but can be slipped off if desired. I found it very difficult to photograph them, but the candles are in excellent condition, still very reflective with shiny, even coloring and finish. There are no scratches, cloudiness, or loss of inner silvering. The textured flame tips have some minor flaking of the red paint.

Click for more detail...

8833

Glass Beaded Bell, Star, Fancy Wrapped Drop Christmas Ornaments Two vintage Czech and one Japan fancy wired beaded glass Christmas ornaments. The oldest is the Czech gold mercury glass ball wrapped in a geometric wired bead cage with three beaded drops dangling from the bottom, very Art Deco looking. It's about 2-1/4" diameter by 3-1/4" high, not including the wire loop hanger at the top. The gold ball and many of the tiny silver beads have loss of inner mercury silvering.

Next is the 3-3/4" dimensional Czech 5-point star, made with chartreuse green tube beads, tiny pink mercury beads, and larger mercury ball beads in blue and silver. No broken wires or beads, the star wasn't shaped very well for the photos but is in excellent condition other than some inner silvering loss.

The beaded Japan ornament is a bell or Christmas tree shape, 3-1/2" high by 3" wide at the bottom. It's made with silver and green mercury glass beads with a red mercury ball ornament hanging from the upper center. Some of the silver beads have turned pearly white from natural deterioration of the inner mercury silvering.

8167

Germany Fancy Star Indent Bumpy Glass Christmas Ornaments Three very unusual 1920s to 1930s textured glass Christmas ornaments, each with indented designs on two sides. The bumpy, beaded red and silver round ball has a green tinted recessed star indent front and back and is 2-3/4" high to the top of the metal cap by 2-1/4" wide.

The other red and silver round ornament is 2-1/4" high. The center indents are faceted star or flower shapes, tinted red. surrounded by two rows of silver diamond points, then thin red rings framing the outside of the ornament. The pike is chipped under the metal cap and there is a hairline crack to the glass on one side, invisibly repaired with clear nail polish so that it will not expand or break.

The bumpy, beaded silver bell is 2-3/4" high. A red 5-point star indent is incised on two sides. Still shiny and in very good condition, this ornament has an unmarked German metal cap. The metal caps on the other two ornaments are rusty and if marked, cannot be read but they are either of German or Czech origin.

12044

German Glass Automobile Car Christmas Ornament This German made figural glass Christmas ornament is in the form of a passenger car. The shape is a generic version of a late 1930s automobile.

The silvered ornament is 3-3/4 inches long and has a pike "tailpipe" at the back. The color is bright rust orange with yellow and white painted trim. This type of ornament was made in Germany before World War II and again just after the war in Western Germany until the molds were changed to look more like a Volkswagen type car. The metal cap is marked Germany - if the word West is there I can't see it due to the oxidation and age wear. The ornament is in excellent vintage condition.

Click for more detail...

6021

Cottage House With Turkey Czech Glass Christmas Ornament Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia all made variations of this turkey in front of a cottage or house glass Christmas ornament. This is a Czech example, produced in the 1920s or 1930s. The thin mercury silvered glass ornament is mold blown, a little over 3 inches high. The roof of the cottage is blue, the turkey vivid red, the front and back windows as well as the trees at the sides of the house are yellow.

The ornament is in very good condition, just a little fading of the blue roof paint. When you hold the ornament up to direct, strong light you can see some slight transparency from natural and normal degradation of the inner silvering.

12563

German Long Stem Blown Glass Pipe Christmas Ornament An unusual 1930s or earlier large silvered mouth blown glass pipe Christmas ornament from Germany, 7-3/4 inches long. The rounded bowl has a deep indented opening tinted bright red, the exterior and stem are a bright metallic peacock blue. The bowl has linear or stripes decoration alternating with squiggle lines. The decoration was once white paint with clear Venetian Dew (a type of early glitter made from tiny round clear glass beads), but much of it has worn off over the years. The Venetian Dew trim at the upper stem is still mostly intact however. There are no chips or breaks and the ornament is in excellent condition aside from the worn dew. For some reason this type of ornaments rarely came with hangers (people used ribbons, wires, or tinsel) - the metal cap was added by the owner.

4 Music Themed Vintage Glass Christmas Ornaments Horns, Cellos Four old musical instrument shape figural glass Christmas ornaments, two horns and two cello or guitar type stringed instruments. They were made in Germany or possibly Czechoslovakia in the 1930s or earlier. The oldest ornament is the large gold horn, 5-1/2 inches long. At nearly 100 years old, the horn does have some finish wear and rust marks on the back side but there are no chips or breaks.

The other horn is a tuba type, 3 inches high in tri-color red, silver, and dark green. It has some old snow flocking and some inner silvering loss at the center. The green cello is unsilvered with pink and white painted details. The 3-3/4 inch pink cello has some finish wear, mostly to the back. Though some of the backs show quite a bit of finish wear, they display nicely on a vintage decorated Christmas tree.

Pair German Blown Glass Trumpet Horns Christmas Ornaments These blown mercury glass horn or trumpet shape Christmas ornaments were made in Germany in the 1930s. They're about 3-1/4 inches high, one red and silver, the other tri-colored red, silver, and dark green. There is some inner mercury loss as shown and a bit of paint wear but no chips or breaks. For some reason horn ornaments like this didn't originally come with hangers or hooks - people tied them to the tree with loops of string, cord, or ribbon. After the pictures were taken I added wire loop hangers to the pikes for ease in hanging.

Barber Pole Stripe, Windowpane Glass Christmas Ornaments Six colorful figural silvered glass Christmas ornaments from Germany, Czechoslovakia, and West Germany. The largest is the Czech rib twist mushroom tree at 5-1/4 inches. It has some finish wear to the lower pink bulb and discoloration of the white mica glitter.

The oldest ornament is the textured mercury glass egg or oval, It's 3-1/4 inches high and has incised red and blue center stripes. The tin cap is a style from the early 1900s, unmarked. Probably German.

Next are two barber pole spiral twist icicle drops, about 3-3/4 inches long. From early 1950s West Germany, there is discoloration to the white mica and some inner silvering loss.

The two colorful window pane lantern shapes are 2-1/2 and 3-1/4 inches. The pink has a West Germany marked cap, the multi colored lantern has a German cap. Other than age related finish or mica wear mentioned above, the ornaments are in good condition with no breaks or damage.
